I'll be honest, I've never seen this show...but for some reason the whistling was stuck in my head all day! I'll have to watch it next time I see it on. >_>
This is SO terrific. I was just there this summer. Went to Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir, where they filmed an episode of Brady Bunch, but could not find the Andy Griffith spot, as you have. It looks totally the same!! Astonishing, because nothing in L.A ever stays the same for too long.
Do a Google Earth for Franklin Canyon Park in Los Angeles. It's shrunken a lot but the lake is still there and the area is easily accessed. Many TV shows filmed scenes in that place.
Love the show! Especially like that "Miss Crump" character. Another favorite from the show is when that Darling girl sings the song "Salty Dog". Thanks for posting this video. I walked this same path last year with my own son. Not quite the same effect since he was 18 at the time but still made for great memories!
I always though that was the Hollywood reservoir. All these years, and there's another body of water around there that I didn't know about? fill me in please.
@christian1127 The lake at Franklin Canyon Park IS part of the reservoir system for LA, but it's just north of Beverly Hills (you have to take some side streets through Beverly Hills to get there). It's actually a very nice place for picnics and for hiking. And, though it's pretty close to all of LA, you wouldn't know it when you're there...it's a nice, peaceful place. Just watch out for Ernest T. Bass! Great job on the re-creation!
This is your personal version of the show correct? As I was watching this video I found myself saying "Wait a minute, that is not Andy Griffith?!" "and that young lad certainly is not Ron Howard!" Right?
That's right. As the description says this is at Franklin Canyon where my son and I walked the path and filmed us walking the path where Andy and Opie walked.
The lake is still there...about 3 years ago, Andy produced a TV special called " Back To Mayberry.' There was a segment in the special where he and Ron Howard, once again, did the "walk" , and Ron threw a rock into the water. You can't see it too well from this vid, I assume because that's forty years of growth around the lake. However, during the special, when Ron & Andy sat down on a bench there at the lake to talk, you could see it.
Mr.Earle h. hagen the gentleman doing the whisting, passed away yesterday,in rancho mirage,California at the age of 88,may he rest in peace and thanks for bringing us such a memorable song.
It didn't dry up but it is smaller than it was back in the 60's. The dam is an earthen dam and they lowered the water level to reduce the stress on the dam.
this lake was used on the brady bunch also.

it's cool to recreate it, but it's a bit cheesy.

Yes, cool to do it. Cheesy to put it on YouTube. But I wouldn't mind if the title would have been accurate. I'm looking for the real credits.
