the video starts "they work a 20 hr shift then get maybe one hours sleep, and repeet it..." Nothing like a bit of unrealistic drama to start off a vid with. thi is a load of rubbish,
@wxyzxdll And what evidence do you have that suggests that this is "rubbish" other than your biased opinion? The sad part about this is even though you have the technology and the know how to find out and be informed about these injustices, you find it easier to continue to believe lies that your tradtion tells you is true. Unfortuantely this drama is very real and prevelant. You should educate yourself before you spew your "rubbish" excuse of a thought.
@agovens For starters, workers cant work 20 hrs, sleep 1 hour, & repeat again. People need time to eat, sleep , do other things. Use some common sense.
Then the female narrator says these young people are "locked in factories" to imply they are forced slaves. They r given lodging there of their own free will - of course the factory has to b locked at night.
the presenters twist the truth to satisfy their own propganda. IT is not factual reporting - it is biased.
Ok, so lets bring it all back here to the USA!!!! Sure reminds me of the assembly lines when Apple was young,,,minus the horible abuses. Then the company's are held responsible here where everyone is watching! So we a little more for our clothes! We all have to many as it is.
They should ban this type of activity in Bangladesh! Americans need to protest this! Oh wait, they did that before in the 90s. And they were successful. Then everything was great for these workers! Wait, what's that? It wasn't great? Oh yeh, the people who lost their job had to take on far more dangerous work and many women and children became prostitutes...
Make all the moral arguments you want but in the end this is bad for everyone but the elites.
This is bad for Americans because jobs are being outsourced over seas, to countries with deplorable working conditions, where people can be made to work 12 hours or more a day for little pay, and even if our workers worked in the same conditions, the value of currency is not equal.
It's bad for them because they are exploited and treated like human garbage, and the system is rigged to keep them down.
1. what can we do to change this, boycott buying clothes made by this suffering guys? but that will, again, render them jobless.
2. This is very very very sad thing to watch:-( :'-( i literaly cried and shouted "THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE" . I hope one day they will change, this is neoclosnism.
@naanaxey Boycotting is generally ineffective because most consumers are apathetic and most companies can still turn a profit, if it's bad enough they'll rebrand and fool you into thinking you're buying an alternative.
But we can apply Tariffs and Taxes at the ports to increase the cost of import goods, and form an international regulatory committee through the UN capable of investigating, taking claims of abuse, and taking legal action.
But that would interfere with the profits of oligarchs.
@naanaxey - To this day, I can't fathom how a rich man can say that he shouldn't be taxed higher than a middle class or lower class person, because he worked so hard to make it to the top of the ladder of success. What?! For your information, not everyone can reach the top, and you did not climb the ladder by your own self. You needed that help from the back of slaves and low-skilled workers to get where you are today! Hence, you should be taxed higher to "contribute back" to the world!
@Mwaterfall wrong. IF you just get taxed at a higher level, there is no incentive to become wealthy thru working harder. this is why the west has so many fat lazy people. Tax should be applied as a flat rate.
and...did you not realise, genius, the more dolalrs you earn, the more tax you pay. Logical? duhhhh
QUALQUI, what about the west? You mean USA or Europe? In Europe you can take vacation, in USA it is all about Not to ask for it, i mean when you dont work for GOV. Otherwise you will lose your jobs. No vacations, just work work work. That is all about american life. Boring...
One here in the west takes for granted so many of our rights,...but alas, with the mainstream media cover ups most people have been so dumbed down,....its about time we said NO to Wall Street and bring back Main Street!
Very good video.. i believe that replicators(a hidden technology) can solve most of the problems in the world. You can replicate things like food, clothing,etc.. from energy which is already abundant in the universe without the need of people to make clothing in a factory,etc..which can free alot of people.. Look up 3d printers on youtube, its like a stepping stone of a real replicators..
Lost your job to India? Have a daughter age 3 or more? If so you can rent her out to rich Jews for the weekend. Jewish TALMUD: "A Gentile girl who is three years old can be violated." 9boda Sarah 37. - "Jehovah created the non-Jew in human form so that the Jew would not have to be served by beasts. The non-Jew is consequently an animal in human form, and condemned to serve the Jew day and night." Midrasch Talpioth, p. 225-L
This is inhumane.. Pathetic that those multi-national corporations are okay with paying people an annual sum that is less than most people's daily wage. Action needs to be taken
@prjerry7 Simply because your Cat-Scan images were sent to India doesn't indicate that life in India is any better than what was witnessed by my friends who were there for three weeks in February 2011.
Wikipedia: "Despite fast economic growth India continues to face massive income inequalities, high unemployment and malnutrition. The unemployment rate for 2009–2010, according to the state Labour Bureau, was 9.4% nationwide.
Further, according to The Times of India, the majority of Indians have a per-capita space equal to or less than a 100 square feet for their basic living, and 1/3 of urban Indians live in homes too cramped to exceed even the minimum requirements of a prison cell in the US. Around HALF of Indian children are malnourished. The proportion of underweight children is nearly DOUBLE that of Sub-Saharan Africa." Shall I continue with the list?
Countries should import only those goods which are very essential for survival..not all goods..this not only will help saving fuels but also reduce pollution and green house effect,,it will also boost local employment.
Beating up employees when they try to start unions is not a free market principle. It is a failure of rule of law in these countries. In India you can get beat up and not even have the police involved. People simply don't deal with rule of law in these cultures. When workers are beat up, the company should be sued for restitution. In a free market, workers have the right to form unions and negotiate with employers as long as it is voluntary on both sides.
Actually, the only alternative for poor people in India and Bangladesh is starvation and the streets for begging. I am from India. And these are hardly sweatshop conditions, given the living standards. I would so easily work for these companies if I were poor. Working for few cents an hour might seem harsh from an American perspective, but it is completely normal if you change it to Rupees. A packet of milk costs 6 cents. Food from street vendors cost some 10 cents (less than an hour's wage).
i fully agree that the conditions for these workers are inhumane, gruesome, destroy body and psyche, and under all circumstances have to be stopped. but i can't get rid of the feeling that this is exaggerated a bit. 20 hours a day? 4 hours of sleeping in sitting position all day? i find it hard to believe that humans can survive like this for very long, much less concentrate on doing this job. who can manage to do this 20 hours straight every day?
i don't think there is something helpful to this situation... this will continue on and on...because we are in this kind of world now... :''( i am so sorry for them...really...
When I was in Kuwait, several *maids* each week jumped off roofs to their deaths. I first thought this was quite bizarre...had never heard of it at all until then. So, I asked around and no one would speak of it. Finally, I put 2 + 2 together and read an article discussing one who survived her fall. So, a maid gets impregnated by her master...it is illegal to be pregnant and single in Kuwait...so she goes to jail forever. That Death be a kinder Friend to these women than Life ever chose to be!!!
Oh, but this is the GOOD side of the story, Folks. The 21st Century version of human trafficking is, yet, another dimension of this tragic scene! AND the very next act for many of these girls who will be transported to Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, OR the USA, (pick your Corporate Nation-State) have their passports/visas confiscated, and work forever in bondage until happenstance or Death parts them from this veil of tears.
The woman are treated badly and they are so young, they should be spending their time studying and not working and they work for more than 10 hours a day!
it is very sad for the worker as they need to work for long hour with so many strictly rule and if i were the government , firstly i will increase their payment . i hope the government will be more nicer in their payment
The woman in Bangladesh working for these clothe factory are not benefiting even though they are getting at least money for themselves. They are treating these woman with fear, slavery, forced labour and with poor working conditions. They must think twice before employing woman to these kind of factories
Globalization can be also a negative impact on countries. As bangladesh women had to work in the factory at long hour daily and they are too exhausted. Whereas, they were also tortured. The facilities they had was too limited and was not fair for them.
The ladies were ill-treated and tortured . For example , they only earn a few dollars despite working for long hours or Over-time. Also , they are only allowed to go to the toilet 2 times per day. They dont have proper food/water to consume. The workers were exposed to the unrealistic targets set by the people over there. Therefore, they are no different from people living in poverty.
This led to a torture towards those women , they need to work 20hours perday only get 5 dollars only .And they do not even have sick day leave , and they didn't have suitable place for them to eat a proper meals and after their meal they still need to continue their working .If they make a small mistake ,they will get fired and even creating a union they will sent in to the prison .Those water that they had drank is dirty and led to diarhorrea .
Cuting labour costs untill almost receiving a 0 Dollar pay a day? This maybe the reson why globalization is not entirely 100% successful. Working overtime doesn't even make them get paid more. And by this video women not even getting any piriorty and not given the chance to communicate. And given that they are only given 2 toilet breaks a day, and maybe 20hrs a day and also another shift starting in less then 4 hrs. That's very hard of globalization. Hence, the negative impact.
The women in south east asia are treated harshly. They are not given much and yet, they are required to do alot just for pitance. This is shown in the video whereby it is said that they work extremely long hours and are paid only about $5 per week. If they were payed fairly, they would have money to spend. This circulate the movement of money and therefore improve the economy. This just shows that there are severe loop holes in globalisation.
they also do not have a proper place t eat. They had to eat @ the rooftop where it was filled with goods. Be it rainny or shine. Thou, globalization may seems good. But there are much more negative impact. Those workers also could get slap/beaten by the supervisor. There aren't any sickbay for the workers too.
Women were treated badly, having sleepless night and they have to sleep over in the work place and continue their shift up till 11pm. No properly eating place for them too. They were being treated badly such as, only 2 toliet break for the workers for the entire day, get bullied and slapped for being slow and unsteady by men who were pressurising them. Lastly, they work over-time and long hours, but they still get less pay.
my thinking for globalization changed after watching this video. as people that work for them are often abused. and usually down with sickness. even though companies create many jobs for people in poorer countries they are only paid less with long hours and very less sleep. which cause illnesses
the working conditions are very bad ,and these garment workers are paid very little for their labour.they also have to walk to the factories as they cannot afford to pay for the transport.the workers spent more than 20 hours working, this is very bad, -TERENCE
the woman are being tortured.. they are force to stay in the factory to produce the garments (for people) and only allowed to sleep 3 to 4 hours.. they also only can go to the bathroom for 2 times per day ... or week ... and they only earn $5 per week .....
i pity the bangladeshi workers as they should not suffer like that . the working conditions are very bad for them . though they were able to work for long hours, they were paid not even $5 a week . all this pitiful women had to walk from their home to their working area for an hour as they didn't wanted to waste their money on bicycle trips. their facilities were no developed . they had filthy toilets , had to eat at the roof and had to slept at their work place. the women were very pitiful.
Womans shold be treated fairly like the guys. Woman are humans too . They should be given more breaks and offdays. They should also be able to at least spend a day with their child as the child is often left alone, and it's so unfair,They also have feelings. They are not a robot, so I think they should complain to the court to earn a fair and peaceful living life, like the so-called `MAN'.
they are under-paid,mistreated badly,over-work,mandatory over-time is simply too much for a teenager.they should be in school, studying but instead, forced to work to support their family.
Less Pay . Didnt get much sleep . As they working for more than 20 hour per days . they were being tortured by them .. They only can go to the toilet twice a day . they must ask permission before they go . This is too much .
The female workers are treated very badly and that even to the extent that they do not get the proper salary and also that they are not given basic rights like talking which is simply ridiculous.... the facilities there are given are also not up to standard and there are not able to complain to anyone which would end them up in losing their jobs... is this the correct way to treat humans ?
towards the view of globalization, it has changed. thou it provided job for the females, but it turn out to be more on the torture side. Even when they are paid, but it was less than $10. Their basic needs was also not been met. Where they had been restricted. Including, toilet needs. They are limited to only, 2 toilet break in aday and they still had to get permission from the manager. People being found creating a union will ended up getting beat and fired.
The jobless bangaladeshi workers have got their jobs but the job is very bad.Because the womans only have 2 toilet breaks,2hours of sleep, the water are not clean and the air is filled with dust. And they often suffer from illness
The female workers are treated badly in south asia, they are asked to work for long hours and yet got paid so little. It was unfair for the females in south asia. They are limited to two toliet breaks a day and what more? The toliet are dirty. There doesn't have any rights too. Even during their lunch break, they are only allowed to eat under the sun or rain.
Female workers benefited from globalization as they learnt how to sew more quickly and they are doing everything much faster which allows them to have new skills, which makes them more useful than others who does not have the skills.
It is not good for indians. Althought they are earning money. But they got no time to spend it or buy things for their childrens. They dont even have time to visit their family. Their pay is not enough to feed themselves.
The workers are scam as they are paid quite little, they are either abused or thrown in the jail if they eat in a union, ask the managers for the rest of the money, if they make things slowly, the man workers will beat them and they are limited 2 toliet breaks per day
The women did not get enough break. As they're working 20 hours/day and do not get to sleep, also they're being hit and punched for not doing well in their job. Even, when going to the bathroom, they have to ask permission and they can only go toilet twice a day. Thus, they find it unfair because they're no different from prison.
i think that all these ladies should not be working here at a seamstress, sewing clothes that we wear. but instead, they should be studying in schools as they are still young. even though they work over-time and long hours, they still get paid less. they are also being punished for the slightest things like meeting with other workers or slacking a little bit.
Being forced to work 20 hours a day, the women had to work for extra hours and are only paid for two hours . They were cursed, slapped and hit by men who were pressurising them. The water was dirty and no proper food for themselves. The workers had no rights at all. If the workers are found creating a union, they will get beatened and then fired. and that is so EVIL !! :(
cocacola company increased jobs for poor countries like africa and this help their country to develop. it also allows them to have more choices in jobs and training services. this proves that globalization is good in a way by allow other poorer countrys to develop
the question that bothers me is how did the filming crew get the permission to film in this factories,'cause it's bad publicity for the companies like Walmart and Disney, which are mentioned in the other parts of this documentary. So why did they even let them in.
Then you are lost, your thinking stunted just as the controllers want. They have beaten you because you have believed their propaganda, they have made you believe in their illusions of the world and of human nature--they laugh in the chambers of conspiracy as they marvel at the numbers of people they have fooled. They have told you they soften up their enemies (Murder their enemies), that there is only risk (Scam) in their wall street market, and the list goes on...
Critical thinking requires that one see through the euphemisms, and subtle lies of any existing system or economic paradigm such as Capitalism. "Capitalism is Good," said the wealthy Capitalist as he coveted resources and plotted on how to secure it with the lives of those he and his cronies deem inferior through natural selection. "Capitalism is the grand prize for those like us who are the best and brightest," said the Capitalist as he stood around the table and plotted war
Capitalism has survived as a system by crushing the skulls of millions of people around the world--I want no part of a system whose only difference in destructive affect from the Roman Empire is the name it now possesses...and now that Capitalism and its cronies are in a struggle for survival in a world that thrives on evolution and change it will only die when it takes millions more lives with it. LONG LIVE SPARTACUS LONG LIVE CHE LONG LIVE FIDEL!!!!!
People that work in factories in America are forced to work overtime as well, it's not like this is a new concept. Factories here require workers to work in 100 degree weather that I'm sure is just as difficult to work in. Furthermore, people that complain people in other countries don't get paid enough are wrong. If people don't want to work in sweatshops then they shouldn't. The money they are earning is more than what they would get doing nothing, so sweatshops are good for the world economy.
@goochspic Imagine there are no labor laws in America, and that in order for you to survive(barely) you must work in a sweatshop for pennies a day. You're to work extremely long hours, you don't get sick days, vacations, or healthcare, and if you don't want to put up with it you will be beaten and fired. Sounds totally fair! After all, you did agree to it.
I think the more plausible choice is for the millionaires who own these companies to be fair to all their workers, not just the white ones.
@goochspic It's a totally different situation. Many of these people MUST live at the factory in filthy conditions, they are paid less than 50 cents an hour (we have a minimum wage law), and they work 20 hours a day (nobody does that much overtime here). I've worked in a factory here and I can tell you that the work was a breeze compared to the shxt these guys are going through. You are ignorant and blind. Go work 120 hours a week for a $45 paycheck and then tell me it's not that bad. Pathetic.
Welcome to what Corportism has created. I hope all of the Americans enjoy their clothes and the debt that their shopping habits have created. This is pure evil. illuminati evil, New World Order Evil. Satan Evil. Only buy clothes when you need them, and try to make your own clothes.
"rickbar123" youre an idiot. if you cant intelligently discuss globalization why bother. Ignorant Americans. "Some shit hole"?? your American small town is a shit hole. Go to school.
people in the west don't know some things about dictators ,you know why romanian people killed Ceausescu in 1989? because we wanted nice cars nice shoes we wanted coke and other things the westerners had we were smugling all this from serbia my uncle for ex was working on a Hydroelectric plant at the border with serbia and traded for western good with the serbian workers ,so if you used bombers to deliver goods to irak people with have sacked saddam out of their own will.
it's very simple globalization means one thing there will be no rich or poor countries there would be only rich people and poor people ,that's the thing no politician no bussiness man cares about their nation they care only for themselves ,so americans and western europeans prepare yourselves for beeing poor the rest of the world will grow a little enough not to die at 50 years but to go on till 70 ,so rich people make more money and poverty is a global reality .
Lets be honest. Who's really to blame? The corperation? The shareholders? The consumer? Of course its the corperations fault for exploiting these countries, but what drives the corperation to move into these places? Lows costs, which in turn is passed onto the consumer as savings and into the wallets of the shareholders. Globalization is such a complex system and theres no quick fixes. If u destroy it, ull be sending 3rd world countries that can't help themselves back to the dark ages

Since when did Nike or any of the other companies that provide jobs overseas force their employees to work for them. They work there out of choice. They have acted on an opportunity to make their own money. Nobody was forced to work in a factory for a a sum of money which seems small relative to the united states. Since when did US businesses have the power to force people to work for them anywhere in the world. In reality these large companies have created jobs for those that live in poverty
May Allah destroy these Blood-Sucking, Slave-Driving, greed filled, sadistic parasites off the Earth.
People can do whatever they wants, but NEVER should people treat ANYBODY cruel or injust. Its just inhumane, and one of the GREATEST sins ever, in the eyes of Allah (God), and in the eyes of Mankind.
@salmangul786 its totally immoral too...like has man become that low that they no longer give a .... about other innocent ppl? their hearts are filthy.
For Any Interested in a SOLUTION for this problem - Please Research Equal Money System. If you do not really care you will not investigate this point. And reveal where you really stand - Suggest investigate EQUAL MONEY SYSTEM as proposed by Desteni.
this is fucking heartbreaking.all while the scum billionaires luxuriate, buy blood diamonds, eat a meal that costs the same as these ppl are paid in a year.how do they sleep at nite???????imagine lying in a luxury bed knowing that you had billions in the bank while these people suffer because of you.these people cant be human as i know i couldnt sleep at nite knowing i was causing suffering to millions.they should be charged with crimes against humanity.id honestly pay to c them burn alive.

@snobo7250 you are right they work there wilingly but how can you name it a choice when you have no alternative ,for ex americans are fighting muslim terrorists, did you ever wonder why a guy would strap himslef with a bomb and blow other people? because he has nothing to live for he doesn't give a rat's ass ,maybe his family gets some money from the terrorists, if US would have donated the money used for war to irak and afganistan those countries woul have been democracies out of their own will

@Elesparto has nothing to to with capitalism. thank corporations that run our government and monopolies. theres nothing wrong with free market but planned economy is never good. we had free market in US for decades and became the most powerful country. we produced our own products
You defend the system of Capitalism as it exists today--you must be benefiting. The ideal of Capitalism and every other economic system falls short of giving us all dignity. The US became the most powerful nation but it had to kill millions to do it--you see Hitler did it rapidly in a few short years while the US had done it at longer intervals of decades. Yet the outcome has been the same--the annihilation of innocent peoples the world over.
@Elesparto communism isnt an alternative, it causes immesurable suffering as well. What we need is new ideas that can take the best of all sides. That or have a computer run everything.
it might take someone a week of working to buy the expensive new purse you just have to own, but the person that made that bag couldn't afford it in a life time. great system we got going here! if it's not made IN America we can treat the workers like scum, God Bless America ay?
If we let the corporations win, watch this again and take a good look at your children's future . You're too old for this kind of work if you're reading this.
They want to work then work stop bicthing about or ouit I tried of hearing it
this same the usa people deal with 20s and 40s still someplaces still today so what and they keep poping out babys over population themself so it there own falt I dont feel sorry at all it the pride they pay p.s ha for boss keep they bicths in line lol
@SouthernTexan2 you ignorant, podunk, nothing piece of shit! I'm guessing education isn't your thing and that you didn't get much out of it, but if these people had only a small portion of the opportunity you've squandered, they'd shit all over you, clown. You and the whole inbred lot of Jesus nuthugging, republican, palin fantasizing dumbasses take our country and your luck in being born here for granted. But maybe you are just a troll, either way see you in hell, bitch.

@simontimon2 Of course it stayed in double digits, but that had nothing to do with Tariffs. It had everything to do with the Fed not renewing the money supply to the bands. The federal reserve banks were buying large corporations for pennies on the dollar, they made no effort what soever to stop the runs on the banks. The same thing would have happened this time, but the congress raised the FDIC to $250,000. and they printed TARP money.
Why does everyone refer to globalization as if it's a person or even some definable entity, everyone seems to give human characteristics to globalization, as in "globalization, get him, he is bad".
At the same time this piece looks to me like feminist propaganda. "The supervisor, mostly men, patrol the assembly line.." and only talk about poor women working there. This crap isnt worth looking at.
As the way of all things, what effect do you suppose its question, knowledge, understanding and application by billions of persons will have on the state of global economics, science, the humanities, education, government and business?
.
The underlying law of nature is the most important subject any person can investigate and learn about, can proceed to understand, and can then come to personally apply in life.
I think the video is trying to point ut that these company from a 1st world country doesnt have to resort to developing country rules, as they have the profits in the billions, to pay these people a decent wage. Imagine the country's economy than (excuses excuses)...
I dont know about the rest of you, but I am completely for sweat shops. I once read a quote by an Indian worker claiming that "sweat is good" and " Americans are ignorant to the fact that these sweat shops are actually doing a lot of good for our economy." Again it is their choice. Their culture is not the same as ours. American always think that they need to interfere, and our ignorance is getting in the way of the big picture here. I know I will probably be scrutinized for this, but whatever.
@Jferro14. You're right, sweatshops yield huge benefits in the long run.The fact of the matter is that wages rises with productivity, and that is also what we see in the sweatshops in developing countries. If you look at China, the average real wage has increased by almost 500% in less than 30 years. The companies of the western world is leading the way, and are paying on average 3 to 8 times the average national wage in the least developing countries.
You're not seeing the bigger picture. 40-50 years ago Taiwan was an agrarian society that received much of the U.S. Aid. Now the country is a major foreign investor and contributor of aid money. A quick run through the progression of how that happened and you'll find that the government BOUGHT land from rich landowners who weren't using it and gave it to farmers and said this is your land we encourage you to build. Farms turned into sweat shops and those are now corporations.......
@TheDubVee tht right mate bth its not far at all huh all this swet shops shuld be closed down huh imglad ther are organisation likr thise thy controling wthgoing on there........
Ya these orgs. are great they keep these companies under the lights and make things better for the workers. I'm saying before we all go out and want to hang these corporation execs look at what they're still doing. These people can work on farms, black market trade, or starve, basically, two viable alternatives. 1 will age them faster than these sweatshops the other will probably get them killed. As more orgs. move in there will be more work so businesses will evolve to make...
... conditions better for the workers. Basically, they will compete for workers. Nike will say hey we'll up wages and cover basic healthcare, Adidas will come along and say we'll give higher wages and cover your family's health care as well. Companies compete for labor like they do for consumers and resources, I mean, labor is a resource it's the evolution of things. It's not pretty but it's the long run that counts. You watch Vietnam 20 years from now barring some catastrophe...
@TheDubVee mybe ur right mate huh bth if wil happen lik this i wil ber glad bcse condtion of wrk this peopl shuld change oit for better huh i read som statcs and i think few of this countries innext 20 yers will have very strong econmy like china, indonesia, philippines and others huh...... i hope any way life gets better over there and peopl will have proper wages compare to ther works.... God bless them
Yeah so do I. When I say I support sweatshops it's not that I support deplorable working conditions, I support progress and the alternative to working some where on a field hard labor. It also means that, barring political catastrophe they'll continue to progress.
... Like a military take over or whatever. Vietnam is moving in the same direction Taiwan did in the 50's and 60's. Great video out on globalization and also has some info on subsidies as well. Message me and I'll dig around for the name of it.
@TheDubVee False! read some history, Taiwan's case is very different, up until the 70's Taiwan was the "republic of China" with a seat in th UN as the west did not have diplomatic relations with communist China. US aid was not humanitarian, not economic but political and military. You obviously ignore that after the chinese revolution the then nationalist gov fled Beijing to Taiwan taking with them all the gold reserves. That's where the money came from, not sweatshops. Know before speaking
@geomusicmove Sweatshops, wage slavery in general came from foreign investment. Yes our support was military, but that always comes at the cost of throwing open their borders to foreign investment, and colonization by multinational corporations, and international bankers. That results in wage slavery producing products for export to the U.S. and W Europe. Which is a mirror image of the events in mainland China today.
@louiethegreater That's true, but let's not forget that foreign investment in the 3rd world always come hand in hand with national debt to the very same banks that own the corporations that make those investments, globalization "in a nutshell" ha!
Boycott agricultural exports, farm workers flood urban areas creating mass unemployment and appalling living standards, cheap labour, barely survival wages, modern slavery, much cheaper and "humane" than old school one
.... The factories started as sweat shops. Over time more and more factories were built so workers had more choices which meant factories then had to cater to the workers in order to bring them in. Where Taiwan used to be as poor or poorer than some countries in Africa, it now boasts a huge economy and is 20 times wealthier than most countries in Africa. Free market which allow easy entry for business allowed that. No one said it would be a smooth transition but it's a lot better.
@yakooza Your comment, "That's a ridiculous analysis considering the only current alternative to the sweatshops is starvation." is indicative of your short-sightedness. Really? That's the ONLY ALTERNATIVE? Your nimble mind can't possibly think of any other viable alternative? How about decent working conditions, 40-hour work week, a living-wage, and so on? It's unfortunate that you weren't born in a Third World nation. In the next life you will be; one can only hope so. It's what you deserve.
Idiot, I was born and raised in India in a lower caste family. What the other guy said is true. These conditions aren't sweatshop conditions by Indian standards. The wages might be low from a western stand point. But you can live a much better life than by working for an Indian company or from starvation. And beating up workers for starting unions is not part of globalization. It's a failure of rule of law from protecting people from personal injury.
Beating-up workers is not, "a failure of rule of law from protecting people from personal injury". It is an indication of the lack of respect that Indians have towards one another, BEGINNING WITH MEN'S REGARD TOWARD WOMEN. You people have your head up your ass. My best friend just visited India, and said it's a real shit-hole. I really don't give a damn about your people or your country. If the people of India can't get their act together, it's their problem, not ours.
@sweptangel7 lol you dont care about India but i hope you do know most of the high-educational jobs are going to India, i recently got a catskan & the images were sent to an India doctor [in India] who told me my condition.
Indias booming, they resently surpassed Russias economy & arent slowyng down.
Capitalism isnt a problem, you see people working in $hitty conditions but i beg of you to look at the peoples living conditions BEFORE the system changed them. USA was worse then India in 1890's.
to randy95023, the women dont really have a choice, they have to work 10-14 hours a day in order to survive. if theyd only work nine hours the payment wouldnt be enough for them to support their families. of course 20 cents an hour seems absurdidly ridiculous, but who knows, probably thats one meal in India.
spatz1510: Enough for one meal a day. Great. Isn't that all we are here for? Working the entire day for a meal? Just to deliver cheap goods to a society which doesnt need any more? No. Its for the rich people to get more rich. Its the same method used to loot the natural ressources. Buy low (or better steal it) and sell high. This is a slavery society. But its okay for you as long as you are not the slave,
WolYou: its not slavery, they get paid.they have the choice to work. i know the laboring conditions are violating the human rights. but why the hell do women even go there, knowing how theyre going to be treated? because the do not have a CHOICE. would you prefer starving to working under very harsh conditions?
im aware how globalization is affecting the 3rd world countries.
maybe indias goverment should do something against cheap labour.that would be a start.but oh wait THEY couldnt care less.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sweatshops are for the better and will probably be around for some time. Sweatshops are forcing particular people to be better contributors to society. If a society cannot contribute (mathematics, science, lucrative trade, advanced weapons, etc.) they are forced to contribute via cheap labor.
mbcurry1981: So you advocate for slavery? Contribution to society? You mean to the society of the rich. I would like to see you in a sweat shop for one week. We are not in medieval anymore. Obviously your mind is still there.
@mbcurry1981 maybe there's certain twisted logic in what you said, or maybe your IQ is just slightly higher than a brick's. It's funny you mention these people are unable to "contribute" to society by "advanced weapons" ha! what a contribution!
You may think they choose to not be educated, and if we all were who'd do this kind of work for a few pennies per hour?
Ironically the lowest incomes go to the workers who perform the most essencial jobs ofr our societies to survive
I don't mean for this to sound sarcastic but, how come in a country with millions of unemployed people they don't hire 2 people to work 8 or 9 hour shifts instead of hiring 1 person to work 16 or 17 hours a day? Simple question, but I'll be damned if I can answer it. I must be missing some part of this equation...
Just another example that "Life ain't fair". As human beings we should be outraged at the way our fellow man is so often exploited through no fault of their own. I send money each month to reputable charities but it seems like a "drop in the bucket" when I look at the whole world and the way that billions of us are forced to live. If you can spare $20 or $30 a month research a worthwhile charity and give. If millions of us spoke with one voice at least some things might improve.
the video starts "they work a 20 hr shift then get maybe one hours sleep, and repeet it..." Nothing like a bit of unrealistic drama to start off a vid with. thi is a load of rubbish,
wxyzxdll 1 week ago
@wxyzxdll And what evidence do you have that suggests that this is "rubbish" other than your biased opinion? The sad part about this is even though you have the technology and the know how to find out and be informed about these injustices, you find it easier to continue to believe lies that your tradtion tells you is true. Unfortuantely this drama is very real and prevelant. You should educate yourself before you spew your "rubbish" excuse of a thought.
that is all.
agovens 2 days ago
@agovens For starters, workers cant work 20 hrs, sleep 1 hour, & repeat again. People need time to eat, sleep , do other things. Use some common sense.
Then the female narrator says these young people are "locked in factories" to imply they are forced slaves. They r given lodging there of their own free will - of course the factory has to b locked at night.
the presenters twist the truth to satisfy their own propganda. IT is not factual reporting - it is biased.

I hope one day they will change, this is neoclosnism.
naanaxey 4 months ago
@naanaxey Boycotting is generally ineffective because most consumers are apathetic and most companies can still turn a profit, if it's bad enough they'll rebrand and fool you into thinking you're buying an alternative.
But we can apply Tariffs and Taxes at the ports to increase the cost of import goods, and form an international regulatory committee through the UN capable of investigating, taking claims of abuse, and taking legal action.
But that would interfere with the profits of oligarchs.
Laughingblades 2 months ago
@naanaxey - To this day, I can't fathom how a rich man can say that he shouldn't be taxed higher than a middle class or lower class person, because he worked so hard to make it to the top of the ladder of success. What?! For your information, not everyone can reach the top, and you did not climb the ladder by your own self. You needed that help from the back of slaves and low-skilled workers to get where you are today! Hence, you should be taxed higher to "contribute back" to the world!
Mwaterfall 1 month ago 2
@Mwaterfall wrong. IF you just get taxed at a higher level, there is no incentive to become wealthy thru working harder. this is why the west has so many fat lazy people. Tax should be applied as a flat rate.

The unemployment rate for 2009–2010, according to the state Labour Bureau, was 9.4% nationwide.
sweptangel7 7 months ago
Further, according to The Times of India, the majority of Indians have a per-capita space equal to or less than a 100 square feet for their basic living, and 1/3 of urban Indians live in homes too cramped to exceed even the minimum requirements of a prison cell in the US. Around HALF of Indian children are malnourished. The proportion of underweight children is nearly DOUBLE that of Sub-Saharan Africa." Shall I continue with the list?

Beating up employees when they try to start unions is not a free market principle. It is a failure of rule of law in these countries. In India you can get beat up and not even have the police involved. People simply don't deal with rule of law in these cultures. When workers are beat up, the company should be sued for restitution. In a free market, workers have the right to form unions and negotiate with employers as long as it is voluntary on both sides.
LogicalFlawDetector 8 months ago
Actually, the only alternative for poor people in India and Bangladesh is starvation and the streets for begging. I am from India. And these are hardly sweatshop conditions, given the living standards. I would so easily work for these companies if I were poor. Working for few cents an hour might seem harsh from an American perspective, but it is completely normal if you change it to Rupees. A packet of milk costs 6 cents. Food from street vendors cost some 10 cents (less than an hour's wage).

Globalization can be also a negative impact on countries. As bangladesh women had to work in the factory at long hour daily and they are too exhausted. Whereas, they were also tortured. The facilities they had was too limited and was not fair for them.
WongXinYu 9 months ago
The ladies were ill-treated and tortured . For example , they only earn a few dollars despite working for long hours or Over-time. Also , they are only allowed to go to the toilet 2 times per day. They dont have proper food/water to consume. The workers were exposed to the unrealistic targets set by the people over there. Therefore, they are no different from people living in poverty.

OtoriChihaya 9 months ago
they also do not have a proper place t eat. They had to eat @ the rooftop where it was filled with goods. Be it rainny or shine. Thou, globalization may seems good. But there are much more negative impact. Those workers also could get slap/beaten by the supervisor. There aren't any sickbay for the workers too.
bananalee95 9 months ago
Women were treated badly, having sleepless night and they have to sleep over in the work place and continue their shift up till 11pm. No properly eating place for them too. They were being treated badly such as, only 2 toliet break for the workers for the entire day, get bullied and slapped for being slow and unsteady by men who were pressurising them. Lastly, they work over-time and long hours, but they still get less pay.
ChongWeiLing95 9 months ago
my thinking for globalization changed after watching this video. as people that work for them are often abused. and usually down with sickness. even though companies create many jobs for people in poorer countries they are only paid less with long hours and very less sleep. which cause illnesses

i pity the bangladeshi workers as they should not suffer like that . the working conditions are very bad for them . though they were able to work for long hours, they were paid not even $5 a week . all this pitiful women had to walk from their home to their working area for an hour as they didn't wanted to waste their money on bicycle trips. their facilities were no developed . they had filthy toilets , had to eat at the roof and had to slept at their work place. the women were very pitiful.

Critical thinking requires that one see through the euphemisms, and subtle lies of any existing system or economic paradigm such as Capitalism. "Capitalism is the grand prize for those like us who are the best and brightest," said the Capitalist as he stood around the table and plotted war

The money they are earning is more than what they would get doing nothing, so sweatshops are good for the world economy.
goochspic 1 year ago
@goochspic Imagine there are no labor laws in America, and that in order for you to survive(barely) you must work in a sweatshop for pennies a day. You're to work extremely long hours, you don't get sick days, vacations, or healthcare, and if you don't want to put up with it you will be beaten and fired. Sounds totally fair! After all, you did agree to it.
I think the more plausible choice is for the millionaires who own these companies to be fair to all their workers, not just the white ones.
behindcheyenne 1 year ago
@goochspic It's a totally different situation. Many of these people MUST live at the factory in filthy conditions, they are paid less than 50 cents an hour (we have a minimum wage law), and they work 20 hours a day (nobody does that much overtime here). I've worked in a factory here and I can tell you that the work was a breeze compared to the shxt these guys are going through. You are ignorant and blind. people in the west don't know some things about dictators ,you know why romanian people killed Ceausescu in 1989? because we wanted nice cars nice shoes we wanted coke and other things the westerners had we were smugling all this from serbia my uncle for ex was working on a Hydroelectric plant at the border with serbia and traded for western good with the serbian workers ,so if you used bombers to deliver goods to irak people with have sacked saddam out of their own will.

it's very simple globalization means one thing there will be no rich or poor countries there would be only rich people and poor people ,that's the thing no politician no bussiness man cares about their nation they care only for themselves ,so americans and western europeans prepare yourselves for beeing poor the rest of the world will grow a little enough not to die at 50 years but to go on till 70 ,so rich people make more money and poverty is a global reality .
iooo007 1 year ago
Lets be honest. Who's really to blame? The corperation? The shareholders? The consumer? Of course its the corperations fault for exploiting these countries, but what drives the corperation to move into these places? Lows costs, which in turn is passed onto the consumer as savings and into the wallets of the shareholders. Globalization is such a complex system and theres no quick fixes. If u destroy it, ull be sending 3rd world countries that can't help themselves back to the dark ages

They have acted on an opportunity to make their own money. Nobody was forced to work in a factory for a a sum of money which seems small relative to the united states. @Elesparto has nothing to to with capitalism. thank corporations that run our government and monopolies. theres nothing wrong with free market but planned economy is never good. we had free market in US for decades and became the most powerful country. we produced our own products

@EXPLOITEDFIGHT

That or have a computer run everything.

louiethegreater 1 year ago
@simontimon2 Of course it stayed in double digits, but that had nothing to do with Tariffs. It had everything to do with the Fed not renewing the money supply to the bands. The federal reserve banks were buying large corporations for pennies on the dollar, they made no effort what soever to stop the runs on the banks. The same thing would have happened this time, but the congress raised the FDIC to $250,000. and they printed TARP money.

THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION OF ALL:
.
What is the underlying law of nature.
.

Jferro14 1 year ago
@Jferro14. You're right, sweatshops yield huge benefits in the long run.The fact of the matter is that wages rises with productivity, and that is also what we see in the sweatshops in developing countries. If you look at China, the average real wage has increased by almost 500% in less than 30 years. The companies of the western world is leading the way, and are paying on average 3 to 8 times the average national wage in the least developing countries.
erdnis92 1 year ago
That's a ridiculous analysis considering the only current alternative to the sweatshops is starvation.
They are still oppressive, offering extremely low wages, long hours, and poor working conditions for the sole benefit of profit.
When sweatshops present themselves as the only means to life, even a billion percent increase in wages doesn't say much.
Even saying that it boost's a nations economy is ridiculous but to apply a moral justification for making slaves out of humans!?

You're not seeing the bigger picture. 40-50 years ago Taiwan was an agrarian society that received much of the U.S. Aid. Now the country is a major foreign investor and contributor of aid money. A quick run through the progression of how that happened and you'll find that the government BOUGHT land from rich landowners who weren't using it and gave it to farmers and said this is your land we encourage you to build. Farms turned into sweat shops and those are now corporations.......

I'm saying before we all go out and want to hang these corporation execs look at what they're still doing.

TheDubVee 1 year ago
@TheDubVee False! read some history, Taiwan's case is very different, up until the 70's Taiwan was the "republic of China" with a seat in th UN as the west did not have diplomatic relations with communist China. US aid was not humanitarian, not economic but political and military. You obviously ignore that after the chinese revolution the then nationalist gov fled Beijing to Taiwan taking with them all the gold reserves. That's where the money came from, not sweatshops. Know before speaking
geomusicmove 1 year ago
@geomusicmove Sweatshops, wage slavery in general came from foreign investment. Yes our support was military, but that always comes at the cost of throwing open their borders to foreign investment, and colonization by multinational corporations, and international bankers. That results in wage slavery producing products for export to the U.S. and W Europe. Which is a mirror image of the events in mainland China today.
louiethegreater 1 year ago
@louiethegreater That's true, but let's not forget that foreign investment in the 3rd world always come hand in hand with national debt to the very same banks that own the corporations that make those investments, globalization "in a nutshell" ha!
Boycott agricultural exports, farm workers flood urban areas creating mass unemployment and appalling living standards, cheap labour, barely survival wages, modern slavery, much cheaper and "humane" than old school one
geomusicmove 1 year ago
@yakooza
TheDubVee 1 year ago

LogicalFlawDetector 8 months ago 2
@LogicalFlawDetector
If the people of India can't get their act together, it's their problem, not ours.
sweptangel7 8 months ago
@sweptangel7
So we do agree it is a cultural thing -- not a capitalist thing.
LogicalFlawDetector 8 months ago
@sweptangel7 lol you dont care about India but i hope you do know most of the high-educational jobs are going to India, i recently got a catskan & the images were sent to an India doctor [in India] who told me my condition.

Capitalism isnt a problem, you see people working in $hitty conditions but i beg of you to look at the peoples living conditions BEFORE the system changed them. USA was worse then India in 1890's.

to randy95023, the women dont really have a choice, they have to work 10-14 hours a day in order to survive. if theyd only work nine hours the payment wouldnt be enough for them to support their families. of course 20 cents an hour seems absurdidly ridiculous, but who knows, probably thats one meal in India.
spatz1510 1 year ago
spatz1510: Enough for one meal a day. But its okay for you as long as you are not the slave,
WolYou 1 year ago 4
WolYou: its not slavery, they get paid.they have the choice to work. i know the laboring conditions are violating the human rights. but why the hell do women even go there, knowing how theyre going to be treated? because the do not have a CHOICE. would you prefer starving to working under very harsh conditions?
im aware how globalization is affecting the 3rd world countries.
maybe indias goverment should do something against cheap labour.that would be a start.but oh wait THEY couldnt care less.

Sweatshops are for the better and will probably be around for some time. Sweatshops are forcing particular people to be better contributors to society. If a society cannot contribute (mathematics, science, lucrative trade, advanced weapons, etc.) they are forced to contribute via cheap labor.
mbcurry1981 2 years ago
mbcurry1981: So you advocate for slavery? Contribution to society? You mean to the society of the rich. I would like to see you in a sweat shop for one week. We are not in medieval anymore. Obviously your mind is still there.

@mbcurry1981 maybe there's certain twisted logic in what you said, or maybe your IQ is just slightly higher than a brick's. It's funny you mention these people are unable to "contribute" to society by "advanced weapons" ha! what a contribution!
You may think they choose to not be educated, and if we all were who'd do this kind of work for a few pennies per hour?
