MN residents (and residents of any state whose execs are planning to opt out) should demand a protection be included in the bill:
If a state's executives choose to opt out thereby restricting choice of its residents and preventing them from being able to choose the affordable public option, then that state's residents should be AUTOMATICALLY EXEMPT from the mandate to purchase private health insurance. Call your Senator and House representatives if you want that included in the current bill.
The only valid arguement we hear (from the P.O. Opponents themselves) as to why we shouldn't have the freedom to choose public option is that it'll be so much better a buy over existing near-monopoly private health insurance that people will choose it en mass, eroding the insurance companies customer base unless they find a way to lower costs (that have skyrocketed at a rate far exceeding inflation). Everyone except the insurance lobby would be pleased with getting more coverage for less money.
medicare medicare medicare....smirk all you want when you use the worn-out scare tactic of the "government run" smear, mr. gotplenty....it's simply medicare for all who need it or want it.
Your right this is a "moot point"because we dont even know the final form the "Public Option"or "Medicare for Everyone" will be when the bill reaches the floor.
As far as cost overhead Ive heard the number of 3% for Medicare. Thats better than the 6% from the video you suggested. What it all boils down to is who will have the lower premiums for the consumer. Then Pawlenty will be either hero or zero. I'm betting zero.
Since the public option is optional.. meaning people can opt out of it if they want.. pawlenty is putting his big government in between the consumer/ patient and provider and wants to limit choice.

No big deal there.
The Minnesota market is already dominated by non-profit insurance companies.
