Not sure where the research on Auburn's returning players came from, but Auburn only returned a total of 5 starters for the Fall 2011 Season. Newton and Fairly would have made a difference, but I still don't know that Auburn could have repeated with the other crucial losses player wise. @revolt1999 Thats quite the response you have there. Let me try to address everything I can. First of all I think you are right about Cam Newton going #1 in the draft even though he shouldn't. A quarterback does not develop for at least 4 years with a few exceptions. In Cam's case he is coming from an offense nothing like the NFL so it will be longer. I don't care how good his workouts look, I watched several of his games and he is very indecisive when forced to stay in the pocket.

A quarterback does not develop for at least 4 years with a few exceptions. In Cam's case he is coming from an offense nothing like the NFL so it will be longer. I don't care how good his workouts look, I watched several of his games and he is very indecisive when forced to stay in the pocket.

@drofnoise555 I have already addressed this comment previously. At the time this video was made, several Auburn players were still undeclared for the draft (less than half were).

@NoName1325 Yeah Mel Kiper and McShay have him pretty high on their boards so he will probably be taken before 15th. He looked better than Mallet at the combine but I still have my doubts....Miami SHOULD be able to easily get him at 15 but he is getting too much hype to fall that low...

@SapphoGrl4U #2 accuracy can suffer sometimes when he has to move out of the pocket. Overall it would have been much more beneficial for both Auburn and Cam if he returned another year. I eagerly await his debut in the NFL but I fear it will be far less productive than if his debut was a year later...

@SapphoGrl4U If Cam returned to Auburn, I really feel as though Fairley would have joined him making Auburn the outright favorite to win the SEC. So it appears Cam had other priorities than his school, whether that be escaping the scandal/controversy or merely starting his career in the NFL. Either way Cam is not a polished quarterback as you saw in the NC game. He still takes his shudder step in the backfield, his decisions in the backfield are usually a run first priority, and his

@ncaawizard Maybe he's polished, maybe he isn't, but his reasons for leaving are his own. Neither of us know him or his motivations. I think it's foolish to try to guess why people do things when we don't know them personally.

@SapphoGrl4U I think its quite obvious that he needs another year in the NCAA as shown by the NC game. He's a great player and had great success last year but in the end it really looked to me like he could use another year to mature as a QB. The reason why I gave the possibility of him leaving to escape the controversy is that I think he knows he really needed to stay at Auburn for another year. Whether its the money or escaping controversy, Cam is definitely not ready for the NFL.

Wait, why is it a surprise he's going to the NFL? His stock will never be higher. Heisman winner, national champion, undefeated SEC season...is him leaving really a surprise to you? Plus he was hurt during the BCSNCG. He hurt his back and had an x-ray right after the game. And as far as the money, again, there's no proof of a thing.

Very true, now that Newton and Fairley are both leaving it really leaves the team in a rebuilding stage. The running game will surely be the strength of the team next year with Ontario McCaleb and Michael Dyer. Auburn may not reach the depths that they have this year but with such a young team, they will definitely be back in the picture in 2-3 years.
