I just found this video and don't know if you have answered this anywhere but are you using the expansion card, TASCAM IF-FW/DM MKII, Firewire Card, with Firewire cable to connect to your computer? If not, how are you connected?
Jamsire, I am having difficulty with the routing of my outputs from cubase on my DM-3200. I have a signal coming out of cubase and then gets lost into the machine. I have no idea which way to route the outputs. Any Help would be appreciated. If more helpful I can get you my email.
hey, so this this tascam dm-4800 do i need to buy Avalon Vt 737sp Mono Mic Pre/Compressor/EQ or ART Voice Channel Tube Mic Preamp to get industry standards mixes? and can also transfer project from this console to a external hard drive?
Hey I just got one, and I love it, but I have a question...
I have it working 90% with Logic and Pro Tools but just cant seem to get Timecode going on the meter bridge...
I had it working, but it only registered when it was playing, not when it was off, or rewinding/fastfwd... when i tried to see if I coudl fix that... I lost the timecode display alltogether.. any ideas as to how i can get it back???
@BongWaterMusic@BongWaterMusic - Hi Rob! I personally do not use a meter bridge. Do you have the TMC software?? Maybe that can help - that's what I use. Are you registered on the tascamforums site? Best 4 dollars you can spend.
@bessie16 - UDL allows you to "MIDI LEARN" your fader movements in your DAW and bring the DAW audio into the board and use the channel EQ's and Compression in the DM on the first 24 channels. You just have set it up. Again, I use the automation on the board - not Cubase automation. The faders in Cubase will respond and your mix is set just right, just can even record the mix to Cubase for a second backup.
This is NOT a mix in the box technique - this is old school mixing out loud to stereo.
@djole02 - I send my signal to the firewire card "DIRECT" - therefore bypassing the input channel. I only use the EQ and Compression on the mixes. I did try to see if the internal effects could be recorded to my DAW, but I was un-successful. But as I type - I think I may have a solution.
With regard to your second question, I use both the USB MIDI from the console and the physical midi from the back of the board via the MOTU Midi Timepiece AV (serial port version with on screen routing).
@delane013 - I route my Cubase audio tracks back into the board through the routing screen. This allows me to use the EQ, Compression, and the two stereo effects on the board itself, plus any outboard gear I have running through the aux's through my two patch bays.
All the automation - volume, EQ, Compression settings and even program changes for my external effects is recorded into my board's automation memory.
I don't get the why ??? why use user defined layers ? i'm only guessing you would want the faders and all automation on the board to be recorded in cubase or something like that??? or is that not the reason why you should use user defined layer. I use remote layer on cubase but am missing the ability to automate the my first 24channel faders of the board and if possible the EQ, COMP etcetera IN CUBASE :-P hmmm also want tutorial how to automate the board without cubase ;-) hehe
1) do you have the option to choose pre/post firewire for the EQ & Compression effects? In other words, can you apply some EQ & Comp to a channel but leave the signal that goes trough firewire to the computer intact?
2) this question was asked by compirri147 but no answer yet so I'am asking it again how do you connect the board to the computer? via MIDI or USB? USB I presume...
so can you give me a full detail of how you have this running into the software? uve got ur mtc control controling the volumes in cubase, so ur recorded tracks are going from cubase back into the board, youre writing oautomation on the board with eq, what about your volume automation? is that automation being saved to your board too? or do you just go track by track printing what you want back to cubase?
Congratulatios !!! I just got a few questions for you, iàm about to purchase the DM3200 as a controller fro Pro Tools 8 with a digi003R, are you cuntecting the DM4800 via USB or only via MIDI ?? how can i do the same you did but in Pro Tools??? The EQ. on the bass part, it is afecting it in real time???
I am using the firewire card with this.

Dear Jamsire
I am using Ableton Live and the Tascam DM-4800, I watched your video but unfortunately Qbase setup is not similar to ableton.
Is there any way you could help me set my ableton live and my tascam mixer, I WOULD APRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.
TAHNK you

Hi there!
I don't know how the DM 2400 works. As far as I know, the User Defined Layer only works for the DM4800 and the DM3200

Hi everyone. I have tried to post responses so many times, but youtube keeps deleting my response. Please don't think I'm being rude.
