And still the Wermacht had to keep fighting! The 1941 Red Army handled the blitzkrieg no better than the Poles/French/British but they had MUCH more land to give up and keep fighting and MOST IMPORTANTLY the Red Army was governed by the ruthless police state of Stalin who was prepared to accept the kind of losses that no French or British leadership could ever accept.
Thus the irony that Stalinism probably was what saved Russia from nazi genocide against Russia.
The difference between the French/British and Red Army not being able to handle the blitzkrieg is that when the British and French were overrun by the Wermacht there was really no where left to flee but for the British to the coast to escape and there were no French reserves. The Battle of France ended with encircled French armies with nothing left.
In contrast the Wermacht encircled huge Red Army groups that France and Britain could've never afforded to lose.
The 1941 Red Army was an army ready to be overrun given the 1937 purge of officers plus plain inferior army BUT the 1941 Red Army was no different than the Poles and the Belgians and the French AND British (GEE HOW FOLKS ALWAYS FORGET THE BRITISH GOT THEIR ASSES HANDED TO THEM TOO IN THE NAZI INVASION OF FRANCE) armies getting steamrolled by the Wermacht.
The Poles, French, BRITISH didn't know how to handle the blitzkrieg...... as the 1941 Red Army couldn't either.
The Red Army that rolled into Berlin in April 1945 was a completely - oppositely - different army from that Red Army of 1941. The Red Army from 1941 was totally destroyed in the nazi invasion. The 1945 Red Army was an army that had been slowly built/rebuilt up from 1942 thru 1944 and was equipped with superior tanks, artillery, planes and american transport as opposed to the 1941 Red Army that WAS equipped with obselete equipment.
He say's "nazi soldiers" because they are nazi soldiers. And I know more than over a half of that 4 million troops did not volunteer or where nazis.
But still they where in a nazi regime and a nazi battalion.
And as you said "Republican soldiers", that's what Bush would have called it, but the soldiers itself would have theire own meanings if they where Republican's or not. As like as the German soldiers, some sayed they where nazis, others did not.
But not a word about Richard Sorge, the Soviet spy in Tokyo whose reports, finally accepted by Stalin, allowed him to withdraw Siberian troops for the Battle of Moscow.
winter saved russia if hitler did what the generals advise launching operation typhoon earlier in summer (maybe follow the path napoleon took to moscow ) an fought in summer around moscow then in the city germany would of defeated russia but hitler was to overconfident waiting for the last minute only to end up fighting on the russians terms fucking up everything .
i am 100% positive that the germans didnt outnumber the russians in front of moscow. rather the other way around! also some german infantry units made it to 8 km to the centre of moscow. so therefore the area of moscow including the outskrits did become the battlefield
@Scoutrussp7 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH you are totally wrong. in 1941 the sowiets outnumbered the germans. they also had good techonology to some extend such as rocket artillary. and not just that. their tanks were superior and the russians had far more of them too. i suggest you should read some books and then comment.
@rexy004 The USA also supplied those commie bastards with Planes, trucks, tanks and ammo to help them, which also gave them time to build new tanks and stock up! They couldn't have done it without US!! Germany was spread thin and were led by an idiot otherwise the Russians would be humming Beethoven's 9th!
@rexy004 For an attack on the Soviet Union in 1941, Germany directed 190 divisions and 2 brigades (5,500,000 people), including 19 tank and 14 motorized divisions (70% of all land forces of Nazi Germany), except that 37 divisions of Finland, Romania and Hungary (900,000 people). At the western border of the USSR were 163 divisions and 12 brigades (2,743,000 people), including 103 infantry, 40 tank, 20 motorized, 7 cavalry divisions (54% of land forces Red Army).
yes but hitler made the swastika flag become the german national flag. so therefore it would be the same as britih soldiers putting the union jack on their vehicles or americans putting their stars and stripes on their tanks. which i have seen.
Well it doesnt ssem that Stalin didnt even make a major effort to try to do so, alltrough moscow itself could easily become a battlefield. And what are you again trying to proff with this disscusing since we went off topic way ago.
Paris wasn't evacuated cause the Germans got there faster as it would be possible to make the city battle ready (And i think Paris was declared a free city to prevent its destruction). And Zhukov did use new tactics but those who were promting cavalry tactics were against newer concepts of warfare (Unlike as in Germany). Mechanized wawe, the general doctrine of USSR during the second half of the war, was only later used.
a.)Not expect to be defete dosnt count (Since the allies allso taought they would win lol 1939-1940).
b.)A stalin knew USSR was not ready for war, his first plan was based on the fact that the war would run simmilary as in WW1 where the both sides would exhaust eachother and the USSR could do short work off them.
c.)Blitzkrieg was a general suprise to everyone and it could not be countered without suffcient tanks.
d.) If you play computer games take a look on a game called heart of iron 2
Well there could be less if stalin would allow the civilians leve the cities as the German army was approching(Stalingrad, Leningrad). But he didnt for the reason of morale. And the civilian soldier death ration was 1:2 not 1:4.
Sure as in the battle for berlin where the soviets dont the same mistake as the germans did. And they had only about 1.000.000 losses, but hey...(USSR lost just a qarter of its population in the war).
Well it would be sure stupid and foolish if you would try to occupy the whole USSR. But the Germans never planned that. They would establish the Archangels-Arakastahn (Or A-A) line. Then all they would have to do is to hold the line. After that situations like the Rzhyev meat grinder would occur pretty often.
Well I would more say they defeted them by throwing so many bodies on the Germans that they ran out of ammo. Look I dont have anything against the Soviets, Russians, Germans, Communism etc... but the onyl reason ussr has won was that they had more people and resources to throw at the Germans as they did. Not to mention that the eastern front was not the only one they fought on.Sure they defeted the germans with outdated weapons, but they had 5 time their losses.
I know Joseph Stalin said that quantity has a quality of its own. But if you see the losses on both sides you cant really say that the USSR won a decisive victory over Germany. Not to mention that German factories were constantly bombed and they had to fight on 3 fronts while the Soviets had only to do with one. If there was only the third Reich versus USSR in the year 1941, the Germans would have won. If the soviets were that superior as you say it wouldn't take them 20.000.000+ people to win.
And the only reason that the Germans have purged every Soviet in their way, was probably just luck. Anyone that has even the most basic knowledge of history will confirm you that it was the winter was which saved Russia (And that not once). Even when the Soviets have taken the intiative, their offensives have braought them massive loses in every attack.
The only reason the Soviets won, was because the power of the motherland (Winter. Only in late 1942, the USSR was able to conduct large scale offenisves-Stalingrad)!!!!
Already after Operation Typhoon (winter 41) they were able to conduct a large scale offensive around Moscow which led to a huge German saillant in the front.
Yp, thats true. One of the main reasons (Or the reason) that the Germans lost the war. But winter clothing would also help, if someone would not be overconfident lol.

lol
nazis were able to move inside Soviet territory only when they outnumbered soviets, usually in 2-3 times, as it was in 1941.
When number of soviet troops has been comprable to nazis, they got their asses kicked everywere.

I suggest you should read some books and learn that in that time were only few new tanks and katushas
nazis had troops near border, when soviet troops was inside all vast territory of SU.
How many time will be gone during their mobilization...
