David Gemmell was truely an inpsring writer and a hero of mine, left you on the edge of your seat with Legend and many other works of his. Met him the once at a book signing, very down to earth guy, a true gent, he, as a person and his works, are greatly missed.
I'd never heard of Gemmell until one day when I was perusing the back shelves of a secondhand book store and stumbled upon Ravenheart. I've been hooked ever since and read any of his work I can get my hands on.
Ive read most of Gemmells book and just love them. His works can be a bit cliche and cheesy at times but the characters override all that. Gemmell was great in bringing characters to life, characters with a more ruff* edge which you dont see in alot of fantasy books. In essense they were so realistic and believable. I think gemmells experience with violence throughout his life led to this. R.I,P Gemmell
Sweet run down, I love David Gemmell,, my dad got me into his work a short while ago, just finished the second in the series, The King Beyond the Gate. (Just about to watch your review of that one! Either way, nice to see some one making some videos about Gemmell, his work seems to be very undercreditted on the internet.. I would love to see more of a community.
Appreciate it man. I didn't think I covered the other books as well as I did this one, but it's enough. And you're right, there aren't many fans of Gemmell around. His work doesn't get alot of credit, but it's really a pleasure to hear from other fans of his stuff.
Love these books read them all, the Drenai novrls are way better than some of his later novels like the Greek novels but still all of them are epic recommend to all ages even read it to an unborn child.
hello, good to see another David Gemmell fan!! i grew up with these wonderful tales of heroic fantasy. i have read every single novel and have started them again this time from the begining of the time-line starting with Waylander, then Waylander II, Hero in the shadows, first chronicles of Druss the legend and so on. I have to agree with you though, Hero in the Shadows is very deep and extremely moving and without doubt is my favourite Gemmell book.
