It should be obvious by now that the issue of homosexuality is being constantly whipped up in society and spearheaded by ELITES and POLITICS and perhaps gays, rather than shouting they're so 'proud' (is a leopard proud of its spots?) should take some minutes to meditate on the following question:
WHY is there so much cooperation, such tremendous concern for 'gay rights'?
Is daddy authority's heart really bleeding for these poor poor gays?
There's much info on the net about the aberrant 'science' of AIDS and it's really high time people start informing THEMSELVES, rather than buying into what has become a fullblown religion, a deathcult.
The gay 'movement' is controlled by the system & it's all about social engineering.
People like Sullivan are puppets, quite devoid of an original, personal, DEVELOPED perspective on homosexuality, which explains...
Rather than bitching about poor attendance at another holocaust-themed afternoon, perhaps Sullivan, who apparently is ALWAYS voicing politically-correct propagandistic drivel, could use his mediatic position to expose the MASSIVE IRREGULARITIES of the entire AIDS-narrative, that is, if he has at all looked into it which is doubtful.
-Countless gays POISONED with hypertoxic meds (AZT).
-Diagnostic protocols for HIV were DIFFERENT for gay men in the 80s. 'INDETERMINATES' were automatically...
I do not take gay Republicans seriously. Why would anyone want to defend their sworn oppressor for? In fact, other than the DADT repeal, conservatives and Republicans have done nothing good for the GLBT community in over 30 years.
When I think of a gay Republican, I think of an African American KKK member or a Jewish Nazi. Andrew Sullivan must have an inferiority complex to side with a group that actively ensures his legal negative treatment. Show some self-respect Mr. Sullivan.
@j4unumber1 Andrew Sullivan has always been a brave gay conservative. I do not always agree with him but he is not a self-loathing gay as many on that side of the political spectrum are. And he is right, at that time in the Obama administration, they had done nothing to fulfill their promises of the 2008 election. Since the 2010 election, they have done more (DADT repeal, DOMA litagation) to support the LGBT community.
We now know that HRC and Obama were right. DADT repealed! Let us not forget that Liberals care about civil rights. Sullivan has always supported conservatives. He is a fool. Conservatives hate gays. We will never achieve equality if we pretend that conservatives are anything but bigots. Vote 100% Liberal if you want your freedom.
Today, 9/21/10, 56 Democrats (95%) voted to overturn DADT. 41 Republicans (100%) voted to keep it. The latter were joined by the two Dems from Arkansas plus Harry Reid, who cast a no-vote only to retain the option to bring it up again--though clearly it will have zero chance if the GOP takes control.
Fools like Andrew Sullivan may rant about HRC and the Dems, but this vote made it clear which party is on the right side. Gays have the power to change this in November. WILL THEY??
This guy is such a bitter blow hard... and clearly utterly starved for attention. Such a cry baby with no record on which to run an organization? Sure, that's who I'd like to take direction from.
True enough. HRC has become a worthless organization of predominantly rich old white guys who care more about hob knobing with a bunch of do nothing politicians than advancing our rights.
timeduardo - I think you have no idea what you are speaking about.
Who are these 'rich old whie guys?' LOL.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you do nothing to advance GLBT rights at all..correct? What have YOU done lately? HRC does tremendous things for us...watch and learn my friend. If you need a list of what they've done, i'd be glad to email them to you.
I guess you might be one of those rich old white guys who sit around fundraisers that are designed to make them feel important. As for myself, there isn't a week that goes by when I don't call, email or write to a member of Congress. God knows my own two senators and congressman must be tired of hearing from me. I also post on blogs attend real events and work the polls on Election Day lobbying for LGBT riughts. What have you done?
As for HRC, they have failed to hold Obama and the Dems accountable, and they continue to hand over our community's money, time and support with little or nothing to show for it. Ask them why they aren't insisting on a vote on the Domestic Partnership Benefits & Obligations Act, seeing as how it has already passed out of committee, or why they don't insist that ENDA receive a vote. What about DADT? No, it seems obvious to me that HRC needs to qualify the LGBT Community's support with results.
Andrew, lets get one thing straight here. You are NOT an underdog. Stop making yourself out to be one. If you are indeed a "pariah", it is the "whitebread pariah" variety. You need to throw that in when you talk.
Andrew I love you and I agree with you 100%...but at the same time the HRC has never been the "official reps" of gay people! The GLBT community must represent themselves . With each passing year it is increasingly clear the HRC is full of bull and not out to advance the lives of the GLBT's in the USA. They have their own agenda
I have seen nothing but bitching from all LGBT blogs since the Presidents speech. You all are CLUELESS. Saturday night the President of the United States gave a speech that compared your struggle with African Americans fighting for their rights....and the President Barack Obama said the words *transgender* and *bisexual*.....You all are idiots...stop blasting Obama and start blasting the people who fight you and HELP OBAMA.
Brilliant Andrew. I walked past the Washington Convention Center to hear Cleve Jones speak across the street this past Saturday. The difference between the black tie, $1000-dollar-a-plate arrivistes to the HRC dinner and those of the more representative Cleve Jones audience was stark.
I voted democratic in every election since I could vote back in 78. But Andrew is absolutely correct in his depiction of Joe and hrc. The craven pandering is not in any way new behavior for them and it's why I stopped giving them money several years ago after being a longtime donor. Our money and trust is better spent with other groups and other leaders. The core fact is that hrc just isn't effective and it drain resources from other groups that do a better job.
The greatest impediment to the gay rights movement, and the achievement of civil rights for all people, is the internal strife and conflict within the movement itself, too much division, too many people dividing themselves against each other parsing and slicing sexual differences into cliques and breakaway subgroups that do a masterful job of manufacturing conflict. Unity is the key to success, wake up folks victory is within your grasp you need only to come together, reach out and take it.
Did someone's Jewish mother abdicate and appoint Sullivan?
Having survived AIDS for 25 years, the only thing that strikes me as more pointless than another Party on Washington is another damned vigil. I can sob just fine at home, thanks.
I'm 50, wrecked, and crippled with rage and grief, but unlike Sullivan, I refuse to carp at young people for preferring Lady Gaga to my PTSD.
As for the HRC... No abattoir, no sausage. Next question?
For someone who supported GW Bush to accuse HRC of self loathing or beaten wife syndrome is simultaneously funny and sad.
There's plenty to be disappointed in about HRC, but the fact is they aren't the villains. HRC isn't the government: it has no control over individuals and doesn't take your tax dollars. It is accountable to its donors.
If Sullivan has a better idea he's welcome to compete for those donations. It's a wide open field.
At his heart, Andrew Sullivan is a conservative Republican and Republicans would like nothing better than to sow discord and promote infighting among the ranks of progressive groups. They want to see us fighting each other than promoting our cause. I don't trust him any further than I can throw him.
Gay people will continue to be marginalized until they get smart: BOTH PARTIES are equal opportunity liars and scam artists. I recomend liberty for all, of the Ron Paul variety.
HRC Board of Directors listen up - the gay rights movement is moving past the days of applauding empty rhetoric, minimal impact incremental change, and acclaim for politicians who offer only partial support. HRC must move forward with the community and shed its "play it safe" policies or risk losing its support from the LGBT community.
I agree with much of the substance, if not the style, of Sullivan's little rant. The HRC is a mess, and Solmonese is a worm.
That being said, Sullivan is a major media figure with HUGE reach and influence. And yet, he's a virtual non-entity in this fight. Instead of runnin off to his beach house to huddle in front of his laptop and bitch and moan, he should be leading the charge.
He could crush Solmonese in an instant if he chose to really get involved. But, alas...all he has is whining.
This is one of the few times I agree with Mr. Sullivan. The HRC's only goal is to raise money and stay in business. If they manage to bring civil rights to gay people they will no longer be needed.
Well, put up or shut up, Andrew. Why don't YOU step up and take the reins of HRC instead of just whining about it from the sidelines where you're safe and have no responsibilities, where you don't even turn on comments on your daily dishing, you stupid bitchy queen?
You wouldn't last a day.
As for your mawkish, maudlin, self-righteous comments on being saddened at the low turnout for the AIDS memorial, who was the stupid idiot who schedules that against a concert during a CELEBRATION? C'mon.
This asshole has no idea what or WHO he's talking about! Maybe if he would go to one of these dinners like I have, he would know what it's REALLY about - RAISING MONEY! You have to have money in Washington to lobby effectively and make a difference. Not only that - you can't just stand on a lawn and bitch and expect magic to happen. Joe Solmonese is a good and smart man who knows how to have real conversations with people to get REAL things done. Gay Rights would be nowhere without the HRC!
Bravo, Andrew Sullivan for speaking the truth about HRC. Its only purpose is to throw galas--not actually DO something. I've seen first-hand how it gloms onto the actions others have taken and tries to claim it did the work. HRS does not speak for me. It is an elitist, self-loathing organization. If you really scratch the surface, HRC hates gay people. So again I say, Bravo, Andrew. It's time more people called HRC on the carpet. January 2017 indeed!
Andrew is the elitist. Check his own history. As an editor of the New Republic he published articles that he knew were full of holes and falsehoods, articles he still boasts helped bring down the Clinton Universal Healthcare plan.
Nice pro-Reagan, pro-Thatcher, pro-Roman Catholic boy, that Andrew Sullivan.
He's the elitist fuckwit who's too fragile to step into the ring and work for real change. He's only willing to comment on it.
The HRC aren't the gay rights movement, they're parasites infecting the gay rights movement. They're parasites who use the rest of gay America as meal tickets from the poli-sci interns who use the HRC as a stepping stone for a future in the Democratic party to the full-grown leeches like Hilary Rosen, who will do anything for a buck.
Makes ya wonder what his real agenda is. If it were truly EQUALITY he wouldn't be attacking any LGBT organization. He needs to check his ego somewhere else.
Joe never said we will wait until 2017 -- he said It was NOT 2017 --- HUGE DIFFERENCE asshole
I wish all the people whom declare themselves in some power of gays would fuck off. Andrew is a douche and he and solomonese can go off together. I hate you all. You convolute everything. just go away...where ever that is
I really don't agree with his comment about Gay Rights Campaign- he misses the entire point. I don't want gay rights, I want EQUAL Rights, human rights. The name of the organization was ahead of its time, this is the more modern way of talking about this issue. These aren't special rights we are asking for, so they shouldn't be referred to as such.
No, Sullivan needs to step up and stop being some whiny little bitch on the sidelines who criticizes others while keeping himself well-insulated from criticism himself.
Given his past and his connections, and what he's said in this stupid self-aggrandizing video (is that his husband "interviewing" him?), why doesn't he offer to head the HRC himself?
and he was vehemently pro-Reagan, pro-Thatcher, and published articles he knew to be full of lies that he still boasts helped bring down the Clinton Healthcare plan 16 years ago.
I just got back from the Equality march and am hopeful that Obama will keep his promise. It is so clear that Solomonese ans the HRC Board are all in a tizzy over the "they really like us" event Saturday night. Like Elizabeth Birch before him, this fraud of a gay rights leader has betrayed a movement and instead is more relevant as ATM for the DNC. I see kids all ove rtown with clipboards and HRC tshirts doing real work and truly inspired,
I'm fairly certain it's andrew's husband doing the interview, so this whole thing is a set piece so Andrew can get his face up there weighing in on HRC and everyone else's efforts while he just bitches and does nothing constructive himself.
Fuck you Andrew. Obama started tons of legislationsadn clearly express what he thinks. If you want to complain with someone go and complain with the Congress and Senate that don't want to speed up anything and with the American people like yourself who should go campaining door to door and make things happen.
I'm tired of people invoking personal responsability and then they delegate everything to one person and if he had the magic wand. I'm gay and very pissed with you today. Move your ass and go lobbying in the Congress and Senate so that Obama promises can become laws.
Another gay right wing whiner who supported for years the same people who want to see the gay population as second class citizens. Shut up and go to work asshole!!!
Fuck you, Mr. President, if you think you have the right to fire people who have risked their lives defending your freedom and ours merely for your political expediency.
I am a registered Democrat who now admits that the party represents nothing democratic. It's just another fig leaf for the ugly plutocracy that runs this country.
I think he's cute, but I don't agree with his rhetoric about AIDS. It's rather tired to assume the numbers are all about AIDS. Crack, poor nutrition, IV drug use, drug company tactics and lobbying, Federal funding and ***medical corruption*** are the things one should focus on, not "AIDS" per se. A lot of caregivers have been well-funded, like subsidized farmers in Iowa, and are very corrupt and ineffective paper mills. It's really time to take a good look at where it all goes. But cute yes
Sometimes it takes a little repeating to illustrate your point. All of you who are so hungry in the push are not seeing the whole picture in what we have with Pres. Obama. Do you know how long we have fought for a President to get up and even say the 4 letters LGBT? And do you know how many times this President will have to say those four letters to our detractors? Enough to confound them in their own hatred, that's how many times.
MANY of my liberal & progressive colleagues here think that ALL they needed to do was to VOTE for Obama & then sit on their collective ASSSES & wait for him to do everything.
WRONG.
WE need to lobby Congress to REPEAL this abomination, along the PATENTLY Unconstitutional "Defense of Marriage Act".
WE need to be the FORCE behind the mandate.
President Obama can't do it alone... & anyone who expects him to is a CHILD who needs to grow up.
So instead we should be bitchy and annoying? I think that we have such a great opportunity to start changing things around but this kind of belligerent attitude from the likes of Sullivan is not going to lead us anywhere. Instead we would end up looking like gay teabaggers.
Andrew Sullivan needs to get a life and stop being so bitter.
The name calling really was not necessary, ultraviolet99.

sullivan has his faults, but he is right on this issue.
benegeseritwhore 2 years ago
No, Sullivan needs to step up and stop being some whiny little bitch on the sidelines who criticizes others while keeping himself well-insulated from criticism himself.
Given his past and his connections, and what he's said in this stupid self-aggrandizing video (is that his husband "interviewing" him?), why doesn't he offer to head the HRC himself?

Sullivan has some fucking nerve taking people's moral inventory when HE FUCKING VOTED FOR BUSH !!!
Kiss my ass.

and he was vehemently pro-Reagan, pro-Thatcher, and published articles he knew to be full of lies that he still boasts helped bring down the Clinton Healthcare plan 16 years ago.
Great guy, that Andrew.

I see kids all ove rtown with clipboards and HRC tshirts doing real work and truly inspired,

wow!
that some moustache on the guy interviewing.

MrFreedomdemocracy 2 years ago 2
Fuck you, Mr. President, if you think you have the right to fire people who have risked their lives defending your freedom and ours merely for your political expediency.
I am a registered Democrat who now admits that the party represents nothing democratic. It's just another fig leaf for the ugly plutocracy that runs this country.

Amen to that! Andrew Sullivan is 100% correct!

Sullivan is completely correct.
The HRC embraced Obama without question
at the dinner when he said nothing new.

America is not perfect but its what we have~

So instead we should be bitchy and annoying? I think that we have such a great opportunity to start changing things around but this kind of belligerent attitude from the likes of Sullivan is not going to lead us anywhere. Instead we would end up looking like gay teabaggers.
Andrew Sullivan needs to get a life and stop being so bitter.
