I can't decide which instrument makes me want to weep the most. Very first time I saw the Lake House it was the piano (or maybe all of them)...then the drums, a few months later...then I came to appreciate the wind late last year...today its the bass that moves me. I just keep finding new things to love about it!!
Mehldau was in Bremen, germany today with Joshua Redman in a sold out house , it was awsome. His face was like suffering from heavy pane when he provoked the laws of harmony like 4:20 , faught a little war and won.
when listening to Brad Mehldau, i carefully and patiently await when his playing will "take off" not realizing that i have been taken to where i would muse in my mind...only yearning for more.
I was listening to this in Starbucks, and halfway through the song I was standing up with my arms in the air. People thought I was crazy, but I just like good music.!
sounds to me like the piano is just playing triplets in the chords on the left hand, but the piano and the drums are both in 4/4? you can hear they line up at the end of each bar
dans le coin d'un esprit il nous ais donner que nous puissions croire en des transports qui nous mène au confins des mélodies, glissant sur une mer huile dans le balancement des touches du piano,l'oreille entent elle n'écoute plus elle dispose .
The Lake House is my favorite movie and when I finally realized that this is from it I almost died!!!!!!!! =D I freaking love it to death =] most amazing show ever
Man, hearing his phrases truly is like having a remarkable conversation about the simplicity and depth of life. And then again its just some Parker, just some blues. How about that.
I LOVE this song! As someone who rarely enjoys jazz, when I heard this song in "The Lake House" I immediately loved it. I cry each time I watch the movie and this song plays. Thanks for posting!!!!!
@thevixen1000 I had to track this song down when I, too, heard it in "The Lake House." Keanu Reeves planting that tree after reading her letter...my heart melts each and every time! However, I cry at the end when she finds out he was the one that died! Have never seen that part without crying!!! Oh, and I cried when I finally tracked this song down and heard it in it's entirety!
As much as I like the fact that it exposes people to great music that they would otherwise be ignorant of; it is rather painful to bring something as independently profound as this and merit it for association with a Keanu Reeves' chick flick.
@TheDionysiac ...or, in plain words, you wish you weren't such a snob but you haven't got the choice? ....hahahaha...rather painful...yes...must be, have such a huge plank sticking up one's..... well you know what...hahahahaha.
@dumena ...it is better than having one's head up one's own "you know what". Stop being such an ass, and realize that it's possible there are those who genuinely like this particular brand of music and I wish it got the popularity it deserves; rather than some poorly written and poorly executed, done-a-thousand-times chick flick getting praise and admiration it clearly doesn't deserve.
I wish the dullards who made that pathetic movie had thought outside the box. And no, mystical bonds of love that transcend time are not outside the box (the box being the hapless formulaic methods used in dozens of other films).
Oh god. Why is it I've got to be some holed up, mad at the world, crushed by a woman, anal plank donning tightass to not have cared for this movie? And why is it no one can understand the real point of the original comment was reverence for the incredible 6 minutes of music here presented? Can't I be just a little bit peeved at something being merited as valuable via association (with something less valuable), when it so obviously stands alone?
I am so thankful you put this up. I too love this song from the Lake House but had no idea how to find it. Thank you. I've enjoyed listening to it many times and will in the future.

What's the time signature piano (6/8) over drums (4/4) ?
Fsdrak 8 months ago
@Fsdrak The drums are waltzing. 3/3 per count. The piece is in 4/4.
boutitbrotha 8 months ago
@boutitbrotha the left hand plays on wide triplets , first theme an 32 bars .... drums play on 4-4 relax funk i think...
kumanalex 3 months ago
@Fsdrak I can see why you would think that. If there were no drums, I'd call the thing 6/8, but Occam's razor says make it 4/4.

@Fsdrak piano is triplets

What is that wind instrument that starts at 3:10 ... its distracting, I don't like it
Other than that, this is an amazing, moving piece.
