Paul Desmond is one of the most underrated musicians of all time. I've loved his stuff since the early days If you can find it, get his album Late Lament. Gorgeous.
whenever i hear desmond playin i forget all the worlds problems, like global warming or the zionist massacre of innocents in gaza. He really had great sense and his tone gave off the best vibes....
Desmond's alto is the sweetest I ever heard. Only one other gets up there in that stratosphere with him, and that's Johnny Hodges. I'd love to have heard those two in a duet.
@leroyosmon: Yes, just as the announcer says. From the movie "The Americanization of Emily" starring James Garner and Julie Andrews. Good movie, great score. A role in which Andrews plays a character more like her real self than the Maria in "The Sound of Music" or "Mary Poppins".
A million stars for Paul...an inimitable style, underrated as a composer, left us all too soon. I like to imagine a session with Paul and Bill Evans. It would have been great...
And I believe it did happen in The Half Note - the later, midtown one - in the '70s when they worked opposite one another... Now I'd love to have heard Getz & Desmond together...
Wouldn't give him a second look if i saw him walking down the street
amazing!

Pay attention to the beautiful piano at the background: it is John Lewis, of the Modern Jazz Quartet.

Is that so? I was under the impression they had never played together. I wish I could hear it, they are two of my very favorite jazzmen.
