I've heard Dvorsky in the house in "Adriana Lecouvreur" with Freni and his voice was one of the most arrogantly projected tenor voices I ever came across. His shimmering silvery tone is also one of all time most beautiful.
Peter Dvorský je geniálny spevák. To čo dosiahol on, nedosiahol žiadny umelec u nás. Mali by sme byt naneho hrdý a nie hovoriť..."aha, už nespieva tak ako niekedy"..je to môj veľký hudobný vzor a to neštudujem operný spev..

ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE who compares this version to Pavarotti's is NUTS.....I mean Pavarotti's WAS THE VOICE OF GOD......now here we hear what a mortal sounds like....I mean the last B natural is so out of place and uninspiring......I mean the Dvorsky has talent but he is NO PAVAROTTI....not even close....minor leaguer over his head slightly.....
Pavarotti is wondeful singer and he sang often this aria in concert. But it's not right for him. His performance in the Zubin Metha recording is amazing, but he sang rarely (and with limitated success) Calaf on the stage. Pavarotti is a lirico (almost lirico-leggero) tenor. His voice is too clear and light. Calaf ask a very dramatic and strong voice (like Corelli, Domingo, Dvorsky)
Get your facts straight. Mingo never sung Calaf with acceptable quality. He yelled it. Pava tried it once and it was fine for a lyric tenor's interpretation but was wise to no strain his voice in that spinto role. When he sung ND in recital, it was heavenly. Geta friggin clue instead of repeating nonsense.
I admit Domingo often yell. But after all Calaf is a tartar warrior! Hear 1989 Domingo-Levine Turandot. He yell when He must yell (il bacio mio ti dà...) and he is softly elsewhere (dimmi il mio nome...) In Nessun Dorma he is very fine (hear the wonderful pianissimo in "quando la luce splenderà"). Domingo has sung Calaf many times in many importants theatres (MET, La Scala, Wiener Staadtoper, Arena di Verona...).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What a poor defense of Domingo. You should be ashamed of yourself! Who care where Mingo yelled the role of Calaf? You're kidding yourself. His renditions of Calaf is an insult to those who have created excellence in this role such as Corelli, among others.
if people feel justifying their comments to a dafamatory level, then lets all remember, this man is on the stage professionally, and back then, mediocrity wasnt acceptable. this guy is very good, and make the most of it, because if paul potts is the face of modern opera, then lets all abandon singing in key, and only sing after 15 pints. singing is becoming open to mediocrity or worse, just like the art world.abilities for singing and painting have been brushed away and that pisses me off.
LoL...a pedestrian rendition of ND. What was the inflection in the final B4-A4? Whomever suggested that Pava and this Pava wannabe was at the same level must be delusional.
Wrong. There are a number of Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma's around You Tube that are PRETTY "pedestrian". This Nessun is pretty decent, not perfect, but pretty decent. Pavarotti himself
throughly enjoyed Dvorsky.
His Najkrajší kút v šírom svete is a commanding performance.
No it is not. A top notch tenor is expected to a secure upper register up to C5. Anything above C5 is considered a bonus of course. Second class tenors struggle with an A4 and above. Although top notes is not everything, a top tenor is expected to produce glorious top notes. And not all B4s are created equal. Some are very glorious and have a perfect ring, some sound like Dvorsky, i.e. pedestrian.
Is Vickers a second class tenor?! You know that there is nuances to what kind of tenor voice you are. That has nothing to do with struggling for the Bb 4. But if you decide to sing the italian romantic repertoire , and are a more tenore robusto, you will pray for getting a new job at the gas station for the change of living.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What matters is the quality of the sound produced. One's vocal range might only go up to a B but for as long it is secure and of top quality, it wouldn't cause a problem is a proper repertoire is chosen. The idea is to be sing quality notes when needed. Domingo's range, on the other hand, is over extended and he's not secure in any note over a G. Anything else after that is an trial and error exercise for him. So don't confuse a secure top with one that is overextended. And yes! Vickers was fine
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
check out any version from Pavarotti and you will quickly realize what a lousy job Dvorsky is doing.... ah and by the way when he is finished the violins are still completing that note.. I guess he was done faster..
Your version of Pavarotti? What the fuck you are talking about you primitive american. First, it is by G. Puccini, and second, you are as poor as children in Somalia, if you know where is that you fool.
The most beutiful part of this aria is the final cry and Dvorsky in this performance hits a very beutiful, powerful and unusual "E" on "Vincero" but unfortunately the note takes all his strength and he runs out of air for the final stroke.
sorry..an E? the highest this aria is written is a B or Bb i can't remember. That was no E, hehe. You must not be a tenor. How dare you not know everything there is to know about great tenor standards like this....just kidding dude. It really only goes up to a B though for future reference.
k max...first of all, try and not use Pavarotti and mediocre in the same sentence. Bjorling is obviously excellent,,but pavarotti has the indescribable 'something' that even Bjorling doesn't have..... Dvorsky is good, but reminds me of a pavarotti wannabe...jeez at least trim the beard......
There are only few of them to be even compared to Dvorský at his peak period. If you can´t hear and not able to recognise his excellent singing technique, beautiful and warm timbre or one of the finest legatos you must be deaf. He used to be highly acclaimed for his numerous remarkable performances throughout the most important opera stages in the world. I wish you could record your version of Nessun dorma, post it here and start competing with Dvorský.
@CostaRicaAdventures - you do not know what you are talking about. A singer must sing, perform wholy, act... Pav was the worst actor, though a magnificent singer, but so was Peter in his prime...
His top register is excellent, but his low and middle register is actually really weak.
Listen to the beginning and middle several times and you will notice. The real maestro is Jussi Bjorling. Pavarotti and Domingo sounds really mediocre in comparaison (low and middle register).
The inflection in the last note is because he ran out of breath and reached the limit of his range. As such with that inflection he had to force it out. Look at the push with his body. Who's talking without paying attention to detail now?
Oh my God! respect please for the MAESTRO Luciano Pavarotii becouse is the best voice for ever!!! He's unic!!! and incoparable!!! Nice perfomance but for me too forced.
Last note was totally wrong and he almost shit in his pants to hit it. Sorry but that how it sounded and looked like. And it's as if he's trying to imitate Pavarotti...
sorry but i think that have a problem to hear because it s one of the best interpretation and voice i ever heard and the last note wasn t wrong it was only a modulation that only himhad made so when you dont know dont talk

I loved it! He gave himself too generously in the end and ran out of breath in the last oo. Also he shouldn't sing it the way Pavarotti does. It would serve him better to sing it in a unique style of his own, or at least like Jussi Bjorling or Domingo
Totally unintersting! If this is the best today...Well future of tenor singing looks very bad. Despite modern technique it sounds 8not even mediocre) but really bad.
