  • I always think the name says chris hansen ._.

  • @kj4tw lol me too

  • this is so cute! It's in Anime style too! Marina is adorable!!

  • THIS ONE IS BETTER THAN DISNEY verison

  • @kristinamelendez12 it's the original. and original is usually always the best.

  • I love this movie does anyone know where I can buy it??

  • NieuAnimeTV, I Thank You for uploading this version!!! You Rcok!!

  • I love this one!!!! It`s so beautiful and sad <3

  • kinda weird the grandmother has clothes on but the girls :D nooooooo

  • does she say "little bitch" at the beginning?!?!

  • @TheMermaid19 lol no she says "little fish". I thought that too at first.

  • I've never seen this before O_O

  • Disney messed up and I like the sad ending for a good reason

  • this movie gave me my first boner

  • @zepps88 what??

  • I'm so glad I found this--I've been looking everywhere. I used to watch this at my grandma's all the time, but her copy got lost. I love actually love Disney, but this retelling has a special place in my heart. Hans Christian Anderson was one of the greatest storytellers who ever lived.

  • Actually I belive that the true point of the story was that Love is the most powerful thing on earth, stronger than jealousy, or selfishness or betrayl, it makes us put others before ourselves. Marina could have saved herself if she killed the prince, but her love was strong and sincere and she realized that she truely loved him and wanted him to be happy.

Her wish was to be human so that she could love the prince, but it was her love FOR the prince that made her human.

  • awww :)

  • this looks like anime!

  • @wingslovedvalkria That's because it is anime! :D

    (1975 anime to be precise.)

  • wait seashell bras weren't invented yet? no wonder i never saw this.

  • okay, what I would do is stab Diseny and then real stories would fall to my feet for me to pick up and read. Then I'd go to heaven for slaying evil beings. Hans Christian Anderson's name was placed on the proper one though(this anime' tale).

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I can not tell you how long I have been trying to find this!! I am 40 years old (ugh) and this is the very first movie my father took me to as a child. Can you tell me where I can find this? The internet is no help. I now have a 3 year old and would love to show it to her. I was very shocked when Disney changed the ending. Thanks!!!

  • They should re-score and re-dub this film, then re-release it.

  • I think Disney made a huge mistake when making a happy ending to the little mermaid. It's just my opinion. I think it kind of ruined the original meaning of Hans C. A.'s moral of the true story. Regardless of if the ending to the Disney version is better suited for kids & ovbiously happier, Hans C.A. would have wanted children to know that when it comes down to it "love" is very un fair & painful & not everyone lives happily ever after. Not even a pretty & gentle princess with kindness & Beauty

  • @RockMegaBarbie

Life sucks. Sometimes. :D Films with good endlings just cheer me up. That's why. And there should be no film that says 'Love is stupid and hurtful', we all know. And if we would look at it so pessimistic, we would really hate our lifes. :D

  • @RockMegaBarbie dang you really want the kids to cry :P

  • PEOPLE YOU ARE SPOILING A CLASSIC STORY PLEASE IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE DON'T SAY ANYTHING. :(

  • -___- arguing on teh internetz...

  • 8:30 gave me a boner for obvious reasons

  • @SpiffyMario55 this is a kids video sicko

  • @katanarosey eh I wouldn't call this a kids movie if I were you...let's see: bare breast, some dark moments, a downer ending....doesn’t sound like kiddie stuff to me.

  • u know little kids can watch this an read the rude discusting comments

    keep them to yourselves

  • there once was a time when people thought, and this is perverted now a days, that girls and women look better with their shirts of and their long hair cover their breasts.

  • how old is this movie, oh by the way this is one of the old mermaid movies and no one thought of the "shells" if you know what i mean oh and again, by the way i am 12 years old and i got breasts when i turned 9. blelieve it, as Naruto would say.

  • I like how people will show their kids violent cartoons like batman before they'll let their kids see a naked non-sexual cartoon character. Its human anatomy people not porn.

  • People were ignorant of the science of the brain back then. Psychiatry is an important development in modern medical sciences. Many children likely had emotional problems induced into their brain as a result of them reading reading such a book.

The only 2 child friendly versions of The Little Mermaid that I've ever seen are the Disney cartoon The Little Mermaid, and the Saban anime Adventures of the Little Mermaid (also known as Ningyo Hime Marina no Bouken).

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 in my opinion this version is better to prepare children for the world, my wife and I are perfectly normal, although you probably wouldnt think so as I myself am a woman, or you would blame seeing a nipple turned me gay, but the fact is people are influenced by those around them not a simple cartoon movie or story book they read as a child. there is more sex and violence in a shampoo add than this movie

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 And just one question, are you that kind of person that thinks that God hates homosexuals, 'cause I get the feeling you probably are.

  • I just hate to imagine how many childs' minds were corrupted from reading the original Little Mermaid story in book form when it was originally written.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 When I read the original version, I was about 10 years old and it's so sad. Being a child of the late 80's till early 90's, I was familiar with Disney's version, but when I read the original story, it was just sad.

  • @Beautifulstar24

You feel like you are in a deep depression now don't you. I mean the story has damaged your emotional state for life hasn't it, just as I predicted it would for any child who read this book.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 P.s. I hate you, and you'll probably burn in hell. Klart slut, över oct ut.

  • Yet I fear that this is rated G. Yes there were old fairy tales like the original book of Little Mermaid that DID have death and even descriptions of terrible violence, but that was back when kids books were made by people who had NO CLUE what they were doing to a child's mind. Now with the science of psychiatry we can accurately determine what can harm a child's mental development, and such material now would NEVER be considered to be appropriate for kids.

  • So just because it is aimed at 7 and 8 year olds does NOT mean that 7 and 8 year olds should watch it. Since it includes a death scene that means that a 7 or 8 year old watching this would be exposed to the concept of death (as I stated before that is NOT mentally healthy for such a young child). so even if it is aimed at such a young audience, I'd say forget that dumb idea right now. My personal opinion is this should be a PG-13 rated movie (or PG at absolute lowest rating).

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 ok, listen and listen good, I am a child of the 90's and I was introduced to this version of the little mermaid well before the disney version, woop dee doo its a nipple, woop dee doo its death, my uncle died when I was 4 oh no I must be mentally scarred for life, OH NO I SAW A NIPPLE I'M GONNA BE THE WHORE OF BABYLON, you want children to grow up in a fantasy world, guess what, the world isnt like that, kids are more likely to be sexually active from their peers than this

  • @Raksha2090

Peer pressure comes in one's teens or late preteens, but a cartoon is watched by much younger kids, and younger kids have much more easily influenced minds. So it's WORSE than peer pressure. The Little Mermaid is meant to be watched by like 5 to 10 year olds.

Also don't try to distract the arguement by saying you saw a nipple in here. There is NO nipple in this anime (that's the ONLY good thing about it). To make it more "kid friendly" the artists drew her breasts without nipples

  • Also the main character DIES in the end. This is NOT kid friendly. It's aimed at like 7 and 8 year olds who don't need to be exposed to certain horible things that can happen to a person such as death. I mean leting a child at any age below 10 years old even know that death exists would be irresponsible, and possibly result in a child feeling hopeless or depressed because they'd know that there IS an end to life (think how scary that fact would be for a young child).

  • @BankaiIchigo12345

Yes, children understand death differently than adults. However, when/if death occurs in the life of a young child, I think the trauma often comes from how adults deal with the child's response to death. For example, generally before 10 years old, explaining death as "sleeping forever" can cause more problems than comfort. they don't understand what death is. kids are sensitive YET incredibly resilient, we have to coach them through their feelings, whatever comes up. :)

  • @microrganisms

How does saying it's "sleeping forever" cause more problems than good? You realize that words like death should never even be uttered in the presense of a child. It will mentally corrupt them forever. Most TV companies in the US are actually smart enough to realize that and make sure no mention of death is ever present in any show that they air, even when it means censoring death out of an anime.

  • So what should one do to teach kids about death? DON'T! It is unnecessary for anyone under the age of 10 to know about the existence of death. Waiting till a child is 12 or 13 can make a big difference between having a normal child, and one who is emotionally crippled due to exposure of the harsh concept of death.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 And btw, the most memorable swedish movie for kids is "the Lionheart brothers" (Bröderna lejonhjärta, google it if you don't believe me), and believe it ore not, BOTH MAIN CHARACTERS DIE AFTER LIKE TWO MINUTES!! The rest of the movie is about what happens after death, but no all-godlike heaven with god taking care of you, no. LOOK IT UP, SEE IT, THINK ABOUT IT, THEN COME BACK AND COMMENT!! It's an Astrid Lindgren's book and movie.

  • The ONLY exception to this is if at an early age a child's pet dies or worse if their grandparent dies. Under this and ONLY this condition should a child have someone explain to them what death is. In fact in such a case, it is important that one DOES explain death to the child in order to avoid having them experience emotional problems.

But that is the EXCEPTION, not the rule.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 And I'm sorry, but since when did knowing what death is cause kids to become emotionally crippled?? I'm swedish, and I can GUARANTEE YOU that MAJORITY of swedes knew about death before the age of 10. We aren't stupid enough to believe in that crap that introducing kids to death at the age of 12-13 will make them normal. LIKE HELL!! Seeing mufasa die made me cry when I was 8, but THATS IT!! I didn't go around cutting myself felling down all the time, NO!! I WAS A NORMAL KID!!

  • Famous psychiatrists have already studied the effect of letting kids know about death and found it's bad for them. That's why we have rules in the US where TV companies don't allow allow death scenes in children's TV programming. The only company to go against this view that I'm aware of is Disney. They have death scenes in their cartoon movies (like Lion King, Bambi, Mulan, etc). And I'm not really sure how they've gotten away with it without being sued.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 Now to the point, YOU ARE A COMPLETELY STUPID MENTAL F***WARD AND SHOULD NOT BE LET CLOSER TO CHILDREN THAN 100M. Kids doesn't forget what breasts look like, man, thats the stupidest thing I've EVER heard. And I've heard a lot of stupid things in my days. KIDS DON'T FORGET WHAT BREASTS LOOK LIKE!! AND HELL, DON'T DRAG GOD INTO THIS ARGUMENT! HE'S COOL, LET HIM STAY OUT OF YOUR F***ING STUPID IDEAS!!

  • Nor do I have any clue why so many children have NOT been psychologically/emotionally harmed from these Disney cartoons. It goes against everything that modern psychiatrists know to be true about the brain of a human child.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 Please god, let this human stop suffering.

  • I've been trying to find this forever!

  • THIS MOVIE IS PURE BULLSHIT. THE ANIMATION IS CRAP, THE MUSIC IS CRAP, THE LOVE STORY IS NON EXISTANT AND THE MAIN CHARACTER IS WEAK AND CRAP, IT'S AN AWFUL PIECE OF ANIMATION.

  • @Serdikhan

Do you think Akira and Ghost in The Shell are better animes than this including Ghibli's stuff?

  • aw this brings back memories:')!

  • i miss this video so much i had this on vhs when i was little and i pressed the recording video by accident and i ended up messing up the video :(

  • I has been FOREVER since Ive seen this. I miss it soo much

  • i love it its so cool that people all over the world a watching something who Danish :)

  • I grew up with the Disney version and this. I had the tape and it got ruined, I was devastated, this movie is beautiful, and a little better, for its honesty. I thank the creators for not treating children like they are stupid.

  • this reminds me of my childhood..i love love this movie

  • WTH?!Did she say b*tch?!Wow,that wouldn't happen in the Disney one...

  • I <3 the music,dude!:D

  • Marina looks like Odette from Swan Lake.

  • Honestly the movie is good but im sorry i stick to my childhood i agree with PanderflyLUV the other movie made more sense Ariel was a girl who wanted to be human she had morals and so forth might i add very pretty so i still love the disney movie more it made more sense and i got more deep into it than this one...

  • The Little Mermaid sounds like she's having sex from 4:30-4:54.

    Just sayin'.

  • :mymindisfulloffuck:

  • This reminds me of "Freddie Fish"

  • I can't believe this is over 30 years old...

  • OMG! My sister had this movie she used to watch it when I was little. I knew I was not crazy and that there was a little mermaid with blonde hair... :D

  • I love this its closest to the original story and the fact it's not a happy ending makes it real. In a way she does end of living together as sea foam and in our hearts knowing that she was full of true love not revenge or anger.

  • where can i find a copy of this with the original japanese audio?

  • omg. My mom bought me this video when I was a kid, she got it at luckys.

I LOVE this version. I was so obsessed, and the witch really scared me when I was little.

My hubby found me another copy of it and I still watch it every once in a while.

    <3<3<3<3<3

  • Beautiful and touching movie.

  • I love this cartoon and I cannot find an uploaded video with good quality so I think i'll just order it online.

  • this film, was the foundation of my childhood.

  • 8:31 for those wondering...

  • I remember watching this when I was little but being so sad! I think it's because I was used to the Disney version though.

  • @KathayW Same here. I grew up watching Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID since age 3.

  • I love this version a lot more then the disney (tho i still love that one 2). However, I would NOT want to watch this as a kid. No offense, but if kids watched this version they would pretty much be growing up quicker. I would rather my kids cheer at a happy ending then cry at a sad one, wouldn't you? It's good for children to know that all things don't end up happy but I wouldn't want them growing up 2 fast. When they r older (like us) and see the truth and other versions then they decide which

  • @AddictedxToxLIFE they like better. But idk everyone has their own opinion I guess. I'm just saying that I'm glad Disney makes their movies like they do though. Because in their version it wasn't that easy to win Eric. She had to fight an evil witch who made herself beautiful, and she did miss her family, and she talked to them remember? And both in versions the mermaid falls in love with a human and leaves their family for it so I don't know why people are just bashing Disney. Well, my opinion.

  • @AddictedxToxLIFE

I understand what you mean and do agree(sorta), but I got this movie on tape when I was little and had watched since before I even knew about the Disney version(though I do love that one too). In reality, it took me years to realize what actually happened at the end. So it didn't REALLY make me grow up faster. Of course, every person's different , but that's just my experience. ^^

  • omg i remember this anime from my childhood <3 ty for posting!

  • Oh noes! It contains nudity, such as half-covered breasts! It's not like MOST KIDS ARE FAMILIAR WITH BREASTS, I mean, their mothers have 'em, and girls will eventually have 'em themselves. But noo, BREASTS ARE APPARENTLY LETHAL TO KIDS, AND WILL MAKE THEM SEX-ADDICTS. F*** YOU AMERICA! Btw. I LIKE CAPSLOCK

  • @AwsomenessRain

The thing is after about age 4 or 5 (when kids start watching cartoons) they forget what their mothers nipples look like. This is very intentional and is designed into the child's development when God made humans, because he knew that if they didn't forget what their mothers nipples looked like, once they reached puberty, the FIRST woman they'd be sexually attracted to would be their own mother from the memory of her nipples.

  • @AwsomenessRain

Kids shows with female nipples shown remind children (even after they have forgotten what a female nipple looks like from having seen such from their mother when they were babies) exactly what female nipples do look like and this will likely result in them becoming sexually active at an early age, even BEFORE they eventually mary someone when they are old enough. And of course sexual intercourse with someone when you are NOT married to them is a sin.

  • @AwsomenessRain

What about when no-nipple breasts are shown like in most non-hentai anime? Well I have a mixed opinion there. It may or may not stimulate an individule to become sexually active before they should be (before they should be means before they get married). One shouldn't have a sexual encounter (be it actual intercourse, or just touching of breasts/nipples or pussy or feeling on someon's body in general) unless they are married to that person.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 And sex before getting married is JUST FINE!! IT'S A CHOICE TO MAKE YOURSELF!! I mean for F***sake! When a person is old enough to have sex, that person is already old enough to make him/her own choice!! And being exposed to nudity at a young age doesn't make people doing it earlier than others. I was exposed to non-sexual nudity my entire childhood, and I'm not in any rush to loose my virginity anytime soon. I'm 14. Live with it.

  • I know it's just a cartoon, but the mermaid with the black hair is gorgeous...

  • @MorbidBliss22 It's perfectly normal. Most people think it but never say it. Thank you for changing it up becuase I thought so too. XD

  • I owned this when I was little! I prefer this 1 over the Disney version myself.

  • woq

  • I remember seeing this when I was about 8 or 9 yrs old very sad

  • holy crap!! I've been searching and searching for over 4 years for the name of the movie i only knew the girls name. everyone was looking at me like i was crazy. i love the hell out of it. i still can't believe it i'm watching but can't believe it. thank you sooooooo much

  • I remeber watching this as a child too... I always loved it so much more than the Disney version, for being so much more real. It made me feel so many more emotions as a child.

  • @Blueangeloo

But is there any Disney animation movies you like? or Pixar?

  • @Johnlindsey289 yes, of course. I love Wall-E and Toy Story and Cinderalla and many others. I think Disney just sugar-coats their movies too much.

  • @Blueangeloo

Since your 29, did you ever see Little Mermaid plus Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Company in theaters? do you find both GMD and O&C better films than LM and a bit more original?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I have not seen Great Mouse Detective.. yet. Should I? is it wonderful? I think I remember Oliver and Company, but it has been a long time since I have seen it. I like this version of Little Mermaid the most.

  • @Blueangeloo

GMD is great. I saw that in theaters 4 times when i was 4 and i saw O&C in theaters 3 times in it's original release 3 times when i was 7, fun movies they are. Do you like Lion King? a nice homage to Tezuka's Kimba it was. And do you think this movie is as emotional as Toy Story 3, Dumbo or Lion King?

  • love japanese animation and how the words don't fit how her mouth moves

  • @bentivegnafamily

Ever seen Akira? avoid flapping mouths

  • Omg I love this one I just found my copy I had on vhs .

  • i like this story of the little mermaid but i also liked disneys story. this one is deeper though.

  • @ZexionsFriend Disneys is crap in comparison to this <3

  • foam foam on the waves. Its a beautiful tale.

  • lol...are the mermaids topless? xD

  • Comment removed

  • @MiSsClOnKy They sure are. And think about how young Marina is supposed to be. Well.. that's anime.

  • @MiSsClOnKy Of course they're topless. Can you imagine how uncomfortable it would be to wear a bra made of CLAMSHELLS like way too many other depictions of mermaids?

  • I was looking for the Little Mermaid 2 the disney version, and came across this. I like anime, and this seems like a good way to waste an hour or so, so why not? Lol

  • This is the only little mermaid movie I ever saw when I was little.I saw the disney one when I was sixteen and I really hate disney for ruining the beautiful story

  • i THOUGHT i remembered "Marina the little mermaid" from somewhere! I remember seeing this!

  • The ending to this is horribly sad, but I saw it as a toddler and it didn't scar me. I loved it then and love it now. My interpretation of it as a kid was that true love means being selfless and caring more about the other person's happiness than your own. (I'm sure I didn't phrase it that well as a little kid, lol) My interp. now was Hans Christian Andersen felt like a fish out of water all his life and put his feelings of trying so hard to fit in into stories like this one & Thumbelina.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, I had it as a kid and it's so hard to find anywhere! Thanks a mill :D

  • @yellowtangelo I found a copy on amazon.com, the cover looks nothing like what the movie is, but it's there! lol I was sooo happy to find it

  • I had this on video :')

  • it's so 70's. the music and the anime style. i dun say i like it though. -.-

  • Marina = Ariel

    Fritz= Flounder

  • Marina = Ariel

  • I haven't seen this in years. I forgot how rockin' the soundtrack is. My guy cousin really enjoyed watching this one. No one believed him when he told everyone he saw a version of the little mermaid where her seashells fell off...

  • Wished it wasn't anime

  • The reason why they didn't closely follow the actual story, is the scene of which happens at the end. If Disney put a movie out with that kind of violence, then the movie wouldn't have been shown. Besides, I liked the disney movie better, with a happy ending.

  • Qfkwhavausjshskdbsksksjsnsbsjsbsnsjsnsjbhababajsksjbsjwjbsjahsbajajajshsjaiswjsqigvvvmvvkfkwidkcjvjflckklxkxpkkofpcocpkccvkkvkfvkvkkkkgojvkkvlckfkfkfofkolgovkfkfkomkkpjijdjdkudifjfh.

  • OMG! I remember watching this as a kid

  • I've been hearing about this version, but I couldn't find it anywhere ><! Thank you soo much for uploading. The quality's not that great, but it's still an upload :3

  • Oh so this Is to good 4 disney???

  • I love this version. I used to watch it as a kid. Screw sugarcoating things, the story is better this way.

  • i like redheaded ariel better.why blonde? why cant this one be brunette?

  • @NiteHuntress49 Probably blond because many Danes are blond :-)

  • well if youtube will ban the Disney version of the little mermaid then im going to watch the awesome original one!!!!!!!!

  • awh, the ending's sad though..D':

  • just sayin they cover the old woman up but let the young mermaids be free and naked :/ hmmmm....

  • @animecrazed10001 ha ha! XD i know right! let the young girls be nude in front of everyone, but the old hag all covered up. That ain't right.

  • @bloojulia Because no one wants to see an old granny naked.

  • I can't believe they aren't wearin tops here!!! I'm sorry imma prude :P it's just so strange for a lil kiddy show

  • @BigCatBertha On the other hands, little kids naturally have a very close relation to breasts :-) So I hardly think they'll be shocked by them.

  • @TheLormaly I just wanted to note that this came out way before the Disney version so it didn't take any pointers from that film. This was released in 1975 and the Disney version in 1989. This film was intended to be Japanese anime as this is just the translated version with English-speaking people voicing over the original Japanese-speaking roles. I got this movie for my birthday when I was a kid and was so mad because I wanted the Disney version. Lol. But I grew to like this one, too. :)

  • @TheLormaly

Ever seen Hayao Miyazaki's movies, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust and Ninja Scroll? all brillantly animated japanimation movies.

  • It's a very discouraging video... I frefer the Disney version much better. Even the squeal is acceptable. :)

  • It's a very discouraging video... I frefer the Disney version much better. Even the sequal is acceptable. :)

  • @Serdikhan Lmao!!

  • THIS MOVIE LOOKS SHIT.

  • 15 people must've thought the witch called them a 'bitch' instead of Marina.

  • Angry Sebastian at 8:44! LMAOOO

  • This movie has really BAD ending if u dont like bad endings and bad story lines dont watch this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @waterfariy1 It doesn't have a BAD ending it has the RIGHT ending, true to the original Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale.

  • @raverlove Must have been one shitty fairytale then, if the crappy ending was the right one.

  • @Serdikhan if you check out the russian version, it's just a really depressing ending.

  • @AlexielOfTheAngels I like depressing endings if they're done right. Done wrong and effortlessly, they're just crap. I think I'll go check the russian version.

  • @Serdikhan The russian version is very good, I hope you like it. if you can't find it contact me. :3

  • @AlexielOfTheAngels I saw the movie. It was very good.

  • @Serdikhan I'm glad you liked it. It's the closest to the fairytale I suppose.

  • @Serdikhan It was meant to tell a beautiful story which held a moral. The movie it's self isn't set up to tell young women this is the right thing, it's meant to teach them a lesson.

  • @lambchopclmt What a horrible way to teach the lesson. And who is this lesson aimed at? I don't know a single person who would leave her family that loves her and never harmed her feelings, for some stranger that isn't even aware of her existance. WHO THE HELL ARE THE PEOPLE WHO THIS MOVIE NEEDS TO TEACH THIS LESSON TO? This movie is UTTERLY POINTLESS.

  • @Serdikhan so r u apparently, there isn't ALWAYS a point to a movie

  • @UnaEclipseMoon Shouldn't this movie be one of those movie that has a point. You'd think with interspecies romance, a witch and dying, something will be accomplished, but no, this is a waste of time, it had no purpose.
