  • It's a race during the 1996 season and the comment box is full of Senna comments. Stop bitching and crying all over about who's the best driver and who isn't.

  • damon hill should have won this

  • Imagine if Senna (God rest his insanely quick soul) was still around for this race. If he was in the Williams (which was more-or-less the joint best car with the Benetton), at Monaco, in the pissing rain, what a display that would have been!

  • Jordan cars are simply horrible!

  • 4.42 BOSH! into the barrier

    :P

  • @njitram00000 Classic line!

  • man it must be annoying to retire right in the beginning, you hadn't driven a single lap and you'll have to wait till next GP!

  • I loved that gold livery on the Jordans in 1996. It was obviously due to their sponsor, but I always thought it a shame they changed it to yellow the following year.

  • What a race and even a record GP, only 4 cars finished the race.

  • Verstappen was pushed off, it wasn´t about the slick tyres...

  • Hakkinen and Schumacher have pretty much always been better than hill. The williams of 95 96 and 97 was so much faster than any other car. Jacques who wasn't very good pretty much won based on his car, not skill.

  • Agreed, Damon Hill was a good driver but certainly nowhere near the top. Put Hill in Schumi's Benetton and he would do extremely badly.

  • 80's and 90's f1 cars are so cool

  • Was that irish guy commentating Eddie Jordan?

  • @AlexGRFan97 john watson and he's english

  • @hamiltonfan4eva oh no sorry he's northern irish

  • God the ferrari was an ugly car

  • @pbreaper It got worse when they put the high nose in the Canadian Grand Prix, the classic low nose looked decent.

  • Hill is a fucking shit driver. Lucked into a championship. Nuff said.

  • @parkey12321 u are a dick Hill was a great driver

  • Could that guy be any happier that MSC was out of the race...I mean wow, way to be professional lol

  • verstappen-what a fail.

  • imagine if John Watson was in commentary with Murray Walker, i reckon that would be the ultimate commentary team!

  • I remember i watched this live (must have been 8 years old), and i was wounded when Alesi's car failed, i wanted him to win so much and i think he deserved it. Possible the most unlucky misfortunate driver ever in f1? He had the tallent to win the title in the right car but nothing ever went his way. :/

  • I refer you to the Argentinian GP (until Alesi rammed Hill off the road for 7th place), Hungary (where Hill actually lapped Alesi), and Austria (Hill finished 7th ahead of Berger who was a lap down in 10th).

Perhaps the Bennetton was just crap then, but that doesn't explain Berger's win in Germany 97 and Alesi getting podiums throughout 96 and some of 97.

  • One other thing I notice is how easily Diniz falls off the road here yet 2 GPs later survives a monsoon at Spain to finish in the points.

  • damon hill made a good start? dont you mean schumacher had a bad start?

  • If Alesi was better than Hill, why couldn't he win any races in 96\97 with the Benetton? Heh, half the time he was behind Hill's Arrows...the latter's performance in Hungary shows what a good development driver Damon was.

  • @darthbandon10

Because the Benetton wasn't capable of fighting with Ferrari and Williams for race wins. Duhh.. And your statement of Alesi behind Hill in the Arrows is false as well.

  • 9.5 seconds gap Hill had over Alesi on lap 3 - boy that champion was under-rated!

  • Great stuff from Hill. A good start, 4 seconds over Alesi on lap 1 then 6 seconds on lap 2. Shame about what happens later in the race.

  • WTF Verstappen

  • verstappen on slicks!

  • BOSSSSSHHHHHH into the barriers

  • Nearly 10 seconds ahead after 3 laps...

  • and how many drivers have been banned from the champoinship

  • I miss these two commentating. I miss John Watson's constant use of 'BOSH!' if anyone hits something, demonstrated nicely around the 4.50 mark when Schumacher goes off. God bless 90s Eurosport and all who sailed in her :)

  • Damon Hill is for sure a very skilled driver and to state the obvious a hell of a lot better driver than you will ever be. You smug jackass.

  • is that the same commentator that did the a1gp?

  • Love John Watson. Love Ben Edwards. Just love the way he commentates, the sound of his voice. BBC, PLEASE REPLACE LEGARD WITH EDWARDS!!!!!! And just for fun, add a third commentator in the form of John Watson :D

  • BOSH = Boss's crash

  • 0:36

    is that eddie jordan?

  • BOSH! INTO THE BARRIER! - classic

  • at least schumacher did better here than at monte carlo 2010

  • @flipsidedogchop Schumacher had a very good race in Monte Carlo 2010

  • @samsemtex yea, in what way?

  • @flipsidedogchop He was comfortably ahead of his 26 year old team mate and pulled the best/only over taking manouvere of the race on the world championship leader. He finished 6th when there were at least 4 teams with faster cars that weekend. And as we all know the car is nearly everything in F1 now.

  • @samsemtex ahh you see, you werent saying "the car is nearly everything in F1 now" when he was winning!

  • @flipsidedogchop Oh I'm sorry I was under the impression I had never spoke to you before. Pardon me but how exactly do you know what i was saying when he was winning? It would be ridiculous to suggest that the car isnt a major factor and only an idiot would say otherwise.

So what point were you trying to make anyway? And how did Schumacher have a bad race in 2010 Monaco as you suggest?

  • @samsemtex well he's driving for the defending Constructors Champions which still has the best engines at a track he knows quite well.

I guess i expected a little more... if thats ok with you/

  • 4:45 BAAASH!!! XD

  • THANK YOU

  • anyone knew that in this race David Coulthard wore a helmet of Michael Schumacher???

  • you can push the pause button at 1 minute and 47 seconds, or 5:11 sec, or 6:40 sec... YOU CAN SEE DAVID COULTHARD WEARING A HELMET OF MUCHAEL SCHUMACHER, in that race, Coulthard had problems with the visor of his helmet and wore a helmet from Michael. =)

  • hill was a decent oppenant he beat him in 1996 and till schumacher hit him off

  • @sexygirl1678 Hill was a decent opponent of Schumacher? Are you kidding me? In 1996, the Ferrari wasn't competitive, at all. Between 1994 and 1996, Hill was a maximum fifth in driving skill. Schumacher, Alesi, Hakkinen, Barrichello were better than Damon for sure.

  • hmmmmmmm

  • Driving skill? What Barichello is doing there? Schumacher, Alesi, Hakkinen, Wendlinger, Hill, HH Frenzten, Panis, Salo, Verstappen... these are true masters of that era. Barichello was never a top class material.

  • @schopfheim91 hill nearly beat shumi in 94 and hill wasnt using illegal traction control either

  • @flipsidedogchop Yes, Hill nearly beat him because Schumacher was banned for two races. And in 1995, Hill had the fastest car and lost so clearly to Schumacher. Damon Hill was a skilled driver, but no top driver.

  • @schopfheim91 Who says the williams was the best car in 95? both had the same engine & benetton were defending champs......williams were preparing 2 cars each race but benetton focused on just one! also benetton were better tactically in 95!

  • @schopfheim91 Schumi also had a dsq in 94 losing a win(+10 points ofcourse)

  • @schopfheim91 no it was because schumacher took him out of the last race get it right

  • @schopfheim91 schumi may have been better, but hill gave him a fckin driving lesson on this day!

  • Comment removed

  • @flipsidedogchop Come to think of it, it doesn't make sense to say Hill gave Schumi a driving lesson that day. Schumi was gone after half a lap. We never got to see a true duel between them. Simply put, Schumi screwed up, and then Damon screwed up in a stupider way 40 laps later.

  • @UltimateWheelman Engine failure was his fault?

  • @darthbandon10 Sorry, I was thinking about another race LOL His gearbox starting having troubles here which lead to the engine failure so I take that back. :D

  • @UltimateWheelman ahh you see... that last line of your comment "....and then Damon screwed up in a stupider way 40 laps later ...." confirms my suspicions of you being a part-time supporter.

  • @flipsidedogchop It's stupid to think an online comment can confirm anything about what kind of fan someone is. I already said I got it wrong and said what actually happened to Damon that race. Funny how you call me a part-time supporter yet you make a comment about Schumacher's car "using" TC in 1994 and conveniently leave out the fact that TC was only FOUND in the program, and that there are no onboard videos anywhere that confirm the TC was USED. By your logic, you're a part-time fan, too.

  • @UltimateWheelman and theres no proof they DIDNT use it! Benetton could have proved it but instead chose to accept a fine instead....why? because they WERE using it!

pull your head out the sand!

  • @flipsidedogchop There's no proof they used it. Unlike you, I won't assume they used it if nobody can prove they did. End of. Simple, really.

  • @schopfheim91

What do you YOU know about that you didn't watch the races back then, and only recite numbers like some dumbass stating all the millions of Britney Spears albums as some proof of her musical talent and artistic merit.

Listen up, Hill was retained by Williams because he was a good development driver, and he was hired by Williams in 1991 already. After Mansell went to Indycars for 1993 Hill got the chance for a seat, and to make ones debut aged 33 is quite a feat.

  • @schopfheim91

Are you trying to convince me the Arrows-Yamaha of 1997 was a top car?? Well, in Hungaroring Damon proved he could coax the performance even from bad cars. As I recall he overtook Schumacher in the Ferrari on track.

Compared to Alonso (which is so highly regarded nowadays) Hill beats him in races won for races contested, as well as poles 17,4% vs 12,2% and fastest laps 16,5% vs 11%. All that while Hill was in his mid 30's and racing Senna,Prost,Schumacher,Hakkinen,Villeneuve

  • @McLarenMercedes He raced against Senna and Prost for 1 whole season and he should have been world champion in 1994 and Villeneuve wasn't an extremely talented driver so there goes your comparison. And Alonso is a much better driver then Hill. Hill had the best car in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996 but only became world champion once. Alonso had the best car in 2005 and 2006 and won both times the world title. And in a slower car Alonso can get the maximum out of it and win races or get on the podium

  • @bertrand20 In 1995 Williams and Benetton were equal. In the first half of 1994 Williams was very unreliable.

  • @flipsidedogchop Show me were Schumi used traction control. Where's the onboard where you can clearly hear the traction control activated? There is none. Every onboard I've seen from 1994 proves to me that Schumacher was still working the throttle and that there was no sign whatsoever of traction control being used.

  • @UltimateWheelman The onboard launch control start at France 94 (on youtube). The fact that the FIA found the illegal software in the car but Benetton, obviously, claim they never used it(on youtube). Then theres the fuel rig saga which would have helped him jump senna in the pits at interlagos(on youtube)

  • @flipsidedogchop One start implies he was using LC all year? Give me a break. I've seen insane starts by drivers before and since France 1994. The fuel rig saga is why they should've been DQ'd. That was wreckless, but we were not talking about that, were we?

  • @UltimateWheelman doesnt have to use it ALL year to be illegal...just once is enough!

  • @flipsidedogchop One great start doesn't mean he used it. Like I said, there have been starts that good before and since. Still no reason to assume he used it. You have no argument, therefore it's time to end this. Bye. :D

  • @flipsidedogchop And then completely messed it up big time in 1995. And made a complete joke out of himself in 1999.

  • @boukevdb and made schumacher look a joke at hungary 97!

  • @flipsidedogchop Yeah. And Schumacher took another 5 world titels. Hill won only one, with a car which was brilliant (thanks to Newey, not to Hill) and a rookie even made it difficult for him.

  • @flipsidedogchop with a car signifcantly faster, also Schumacher missed like half the races that year

  • @InospeakAussie and who's fault was that?

  • @schopfheim91 fifth in driving skill?

you need to lay off the xbox mate.

  • @schopfheim91 I see where you're coming from there, but I have a true fact. Damon Hill was the only driver in 96 and in the history of F1 to qualify on the front row of every race in the 1996 season. :-) Although it was down to the car, and those drivers you mentioned were at the peaks of their careers in the late 90's.

  • @MegaSparky555 I never said Damon wasn't a good driver. I only said that - in my opinion - there had been three or four other drivers better than him at that time (MSC, Alesi, Hakkinen, maybe also Barrichello). And to make it clear: Of course, I agree that Damon drove a fabulous race on that day.

btw I've always disliked Schumacher completely.

  • @schopfheim91 Nor did I mate. I don't wanna start an arguement or anything, but Schumacher was a cheat in the 1994, because he showed his pure talent in 1995 onwards. He is a legendary driver, always will be. I see why you don't like him, but you've got to admit, he is quite good...?

  • @schopfheim91

Yeah, that's why Hill beat Prost at the end of 1993, retired Coulthard from Williams, defeated Villeneuve and ALMOST won in an Arrows-Yamaha in Hungeroring in 1997. He outscored Ralf Schumacher in Jordan in 1998, and that at age of 38.

Also, Hill won 22 races, and has a win to races contested ratio of 19,1%, compared to Alonso's current 15,9%, Lauda's 14,6%, Nelson Piquet's 11,3%. Alesi has a 0,50% win ratio (1 win in 201 races).

He beats Alonso in poles per races contested too

  • @schopfheim91

Talking about a under powered car, remember Hungaroring 1997... clearly not!

  • great gp hope u have another

  • the guy with Murray Walker on BBC is Jonathon Palmer, ex-F1+F2 driver.

  • damon hill ftw

  • very bad mistake fromm MS here, never drive on the curb when the track is wet, it corrected to early!I had forgotten about this...ciao

  • good video

  • I love the 1996 cars, they were so elegant, the high cockpit sides were great!

  • agreed this is my favorite year. The cars changed quite a bit in just 3 years. these look more like modern cars than say the 91-3 McLaren. The high nose is almost completely standard now.

  • Hay Hay Hay You Know Hay Hay Bye Why Today Whats Thats

  • And Schumi is the best driver ever?? Pfui...W SENNA

  • @romanoanto

Of course he is. And you know that! He would have beaten Senna. Look at the first Gp's in 1994.

  • If you still do not know, the benetton of schumacher was irregular......traction control, gas pump irregular (for this reason schumi was quick in departures, for this reason schumi surpassed Senna in the box at first GP 1994...), irregular bottom car....infact then the commissioners found these irregularities schumi was disqualified for two race...The williams was unmanageable, uncomfortable and was not competitive like benetton, but Senna was ever first.schumi is the champion of irregularities

  • @romanoanto

Unfortunately you ve no idea about racing. Of course he did 7 titel with 7 irregular cars!!! You are brainless!!!

  • -.- He have win 7 titel because he never had a decent opponent...except Senna and Hakkinen. Perhaps you would like to tell me that damon hill was an excellent driver? A driver for the world title? and J.Villeneuve? Another F1 ace?......You Schumi fanatics always want to be right...

  • and stop with the story of 7 titel...because are not the medals that make a champion...or maybe Lance Armstrong is better than Marco Pantani only because Armstrong has win 7 tour de france and Pantani "only" one?? Excuse me for the last comparison XD

  • BOSH!!!

  • is it me or F1 was better then than now? and liveries on these cars were beautiful, where lola in F1 by then?

  • @jasonjarvis1988 Lola had the one GP in 1997

  • I can't stop watching this race. Everytime I watch it, it seems like I've never seen it before.

  • DUDE me too. I watched it a year ago and it got me really into F1. At the time these looked like really modern cars. After watching the end of last years season and all the champ deciding races (seeing as theres one left but its over) these cars now look really old and dated. It's amazing how being educated a little more changes your view of these great old races.

  • I agree ! But at this time the f1 cars developed very quickly. Compare the cars of 96 to the cars only 2 or 3 years before. You could really watch them transforming :) Okay, this year they got also a very different shape to the seasons before. But in the years 01 to 07 you really have to compare to see the difference.

I think F1 will become very exciting again !

  • jacques villeneuve

  • This was the best race in Monaco at all time and care but the most exciting in the history of F1, frustration for some, joy for others ..! We see an E. Irvine that although he took the blue flag will never step a sedi D. Coulthard, J. Alessi a victory to boot out the window, and an O. Panis who won his only race in the 1st and the F1 ..! I remember when I saw her live, full emocion ..! .. Congratulations on this material!

  • It ain't the same without Murray and Martin Brundle

  • but if brundle is out there on the track!! wo is the guy with murray walker?

  • @Kasimirovich It's Jonathan Palmer

  • "BASSS IN THE BARRIER"

    XD

  • thx for uploading great F1 year..

  • benny edwards!!!

  • When did Barrichello (as in the instrument) become Barrikello?

  • when his language was devised

  • i love John Watson BOSH!!!!!!!

  • Verstappen was taken wide by a Mclaren, I wish John Watson would use his eyes.

  • Commentary by Ben Edwards and

    John Watson

  • can someone tell me the names of the commentators please?

  • Damon Hill world champion

  • Good videos! Thank you for posting!

  • THANK YOU For posting!

  • He's on slicks

  • Who is "he"?

    Schumacher was definitely on wets.

  • Major ROFL at Schumacher crashing out, BOSH! Once more Monaco shows that the "untouchable legends" Schu and Senna are prone to errors also.

  • what a race that was hehe

  • that was racing!

  • surprising "rookie" error by Schumacher. in the wet you simply can't jump on the kerbs.

  • schumi made a bad choice on slicks at the beginning

  • Eh? Schumi was on wets.

  • good drivers like schumi are daring but they ain't stupid

  • wow one of the best races ever!those races you can't forget;)

  • What a race!!!

  • anyone know where i can find a f1 1995 race? i want to see 1 lol

  • I know for a fact that you can still find the Belgian, Canadian, British, Japanese, and (I think) the Brazilian, French, and Monaco races from '95... I won't say who has them because F1 management seems to be shutting down the accounts of people who post full races, but do a quick search here and they should come up

  • Panis was a very talented driver who deserved a drive in a top car, imo.

  • Yes, but his accident at Canada destroyed everything. Without that, he could have reached more.

  • Yeah, and before he's accident, in the previous races, he was scoring in nearly all the races.

  • yeah at his accident he was 3rd in drivers championship :-( i liked him. that was sad

  • F1 cars make the best sound...PERIOD!!!!

  • Hahahah your realli funny , Hamilton rainmaster ??? ye shore , Hamilton can only win with lucky !!! there are only two real rainkings , the first retired at the end of 2006 with 7 worldtitles in his pocket , and the other died at imola in 1994 , these two are the real kings of f1 , and not that missaral Hamilton ........

  • yeah but he won in a toro rosso. lewham has a mclaren.

  • lukeCART1, Vettel also PASSED Hamilton IN THE RAIN on the LAST LAP in the Brazil GP 2008!

  • vettel is the new rain master!

  • Watch the 1993 Donington Park race to see a true rain master. I feel Schumacher was good in the wet but not the best.

  • I think the same way. But I also think that in his time, Schumacher was the best driver in the wet, especially between 1995 and 2000.

  • OK, thanks

  • LOL at all the schumacher fans posting comments about him being the rain master. The footage from 4:18 to 4:50 does your arguement wonders LMFAO.

  • Even the Master makes mistakes....he's only human.

    Watch Monaco 97.

  • well done mate, i agree!!!!!!!!

  • i agree turbodude

  • ohhhh , my comment is in the negative. Funny how Schumacher was an ignorant ass , as are everyone that thinks hes great.

  • Jos Verstappen was the wet master, you can see in this vid that he is pushed off by Hakkinen. But his start from 12th place was superfast for someone who started on slick tires.

He didn't won any race because of the big risks he always took and the bad luck he had.

For rain examples see Montreal 2000 and Malaysia 2001

  • Schumacher won more wet races than Senna

  • Yeah, because he competed in more. For example, in 1986 and 87 there was no single wet race.

  • he also lost more wet races than senna:

    monaco 96, brazil 96, spa 05, spa 98, brazil 03, hungary 06...just a few

  • would've won Spa 98 if not for Coulthard slowing on the racing line.

  • @cncondron

Did he now? Well, Senna didn't use traction control and had to control the TURBO cars of the 80's in rain. He nearly won the 1984 Monaco GP driving a Toleman-Hart, catching Alain Prost (4 time champion) with the best car of the 1984 season the McLaren-TAG (won 12 out of 16 races).

Senna's masterful start in the wet race of Donington in 1993 overtaking 4 cars in a matter of a few corners among them Schumacher, Hill and Prost, was worth 10 of Schumacher's wet races.

  • @McLarenMercedes But Rubens Barrichello in that 1st lap at Donington overtaked 8 cars, he started at 12th position, and at the end of the 1st lap he was at 4th place.

  • Schumacher the rain master? I don't think so - Senna was a class above him!

  • They were rain masters both. But I think Senna was the even superior one.

  • ben edwords commentates on btcc and jhom watson commentates on f1 on bbc radio 5

  • Ah, thanks for the information.

  • Man, those were the days. Ben Edwards and John Watson are so amazing. Unfortunately we (here in Germany) have to listen to more than a decade to the most stupid commentators at RTL. Heiko Wasser (complete asshole), Christian Danner (quite acceptable), Kai Ebel (a disgrace) and so on and so forth..... I really miss John Watson, Alaard Kaalf and Ben Edwards. Those Guys are real commentators which made even a boring race very interesting. Does anybody know on which channel they do the comments now?

  • Yes, in fact, RTL isn't so bad, but Waßer and Ebel are horrible. But sometimes it's funny when Danner is embarrased if Waßer tells bullshit again ("Niveau ist ein französisches Wort für Level"). I absolutly don't know, but I think they are still with Eurosport UK, but the British guys around here should know it better than me.

  • You are so right. Wasser is really a (Genius). That's why he fits with this amazing channel RTL. Television for unemployed stupid retards. Thank God I kept a lot of F1 Videos on VHS with John Watson so that the pain is not too big. Wasser, if you can read this, do everyone a favour and quit. You suck !!!

  • ben and jhon do commentate
