Clarity: The town is pronounced Vy-Day-yuh. The majority of your clips were not in Vidalia. Instead you filmed pieces of Lyons and Tattnall County. Vidalia only encompasses Toombs and a small portion of Montgomery County. In regards to the decorations- the decor is usually on way out during the Spring- near the time for the Onion Festival. I do appreciate your clips of the town and your saying good things. I do believe the word obsessed requires caution.
I know a girl from Florida (which isn't really "the South") who swears this town is called vuh-DAL-ee-yah. I tried to tell her, "Honey, it's VI-dale-yah." She argued with me. Funny how people not from the South think they know things they don't.
Ok, the next time you come to Vidalia, get a guid...you didnt show half the town, just down town and no one goes down there anyway lmao Come one, you have to show the Wal-Mart! AND the old movie theaters...this did us no justic :(
and for some reason i love it ive been here sence before i was one and yes i left but theres only one place that calls me one of there own, whens the last time i saw that on a light pole just when i went into town,..lol. hey theres the old cinema and to your left of the cinema is the dress maker place that i dont know the name of.
You make it look like those onion decorations are up all year round. They are not. They are just up around the onion festival and then they came down. We are not so obsessed they we keep them up all year round :D. The population in July of 07 is just above 11,000.
And before everyone goes and jumps on me...I was raised in Vidalia, and now live in the small town.
Amanda you make it sound as if I was bad mouthing Vidalia which I wasn't. Quite the opposite actually. I was showing it off as a very interesting place. I travel all over and show the interesting places that I visit. Maybe you could make some videos showing all of us what it looks like at other times throughout the year? That would be great. Thanks for watching! -Jim
:D I know I come across that way...that's why I had the lil smilie in there. I didn't think you were bad mouthing Vidalia...if I had I would have been "meaner".
Vidalia has changed so much in just the past few years...I would love to make a video to show everyone how it looks to us natives for day to day life....although it is prettiest I think around the onion festival...when we go crazy about our onions :D
LOL Alright I thought you were scolding me. LOL You really should make some videos during the festival. Everyone loves seeing videos like that. I really do appreciate you watching and I hope to get back through there one of these days. -Jim
i live in lyons it just snowed and im freaking out thanks for putting this video up i loved it! we love onions my grandpa grows them and so oes my dad i love em we also grow great peanuts...
Yes I know where Vidalia, GA is at. I was born there. My daddy's parents are from there, my aunt is there. What a wonderful place 30 miles from my house. You should have went to Hazlehurst, GA, haha..:)
Wow. Grew up there in the 60s-70s. In Alaska now. Strange how it looks so different, and yet I recognize it. Glad they've managed to keep downtown from dying. Thanks for the ride.
It was great watching your video. I've lived in Vidalia most of my life and just recently moved to FL. It felt good to see downtown again (onion decorations and all). I missed the Sweet Onion Festival this year too. Thanks for bringing a piece of home to me. Stay safe on your journeys.
Hey Curt. I'm glad that I have you singing! Vidalia might be the only place on earth where the onion plays prominently in home decor. LOL Thanks for riding along. -jim
Hey Jim, thanks for posting these little video's, i think its great being able to see all these towns, bet you'll never find them in many tourist guides. I have never been to the US but have some friends down in Albany GA and hope to visit in a couple of years. keep on youtubin' and thanks once again from the UK.
You should have your own tv program Jim. We have a great program called The Eyes of Texas (unless it's changed) taking us on the back country roads. It's a great program but it has nothing on your's. You should be on tv! Drive carefully.
Absolutely Miss Truly. Every year I swear I'm going and end up missing it. Maybe we should send you to make an entry into the onion recipe contest. If you can bake those wonderful sweets, surely you could whip up an onion surprise! -jim
Love those onions--I have some of Vidalias and some Texas 1015s in the kitchen right now. Nothing better than a good sweet onion. The decorations are hilarious. I think they are into onions, what do you think?!
Oh--guess they have not become as widespread as I had thought. They are a huge (being from Texas!) sweet onion. Named for some reason for the date they are planted--10/15. Original, huh? But very good onions.
Jim, I enjoyed the trip...AS USUAL. Being a Georgia native myself, I have always wanted to see Vidalia, GA. The MANY TIMES I have been in that area, I have alway by-passed it on my way to where ever. That is bad of me. I must see it for myself someday. Thank you for taking us along with you again. Those road shots are great. You provide so many of us with a great service. Have a great weekend!
Gotta admit I can't stand onions. But even so, it's a cozy looking town. Enjoyed the open-road shots, too. It's a gorgeous area of the country you're in.
LOL, this is too funny. One of hubby's clients gave him several Vidalias last night, so I fixed a Vidalia and cheese cassarole to go with the chicken I baked. I do have to say tho, I think Walla Wallas are better, but then again, I live a couple hours from Walla Walla Wa so am probably a wee bit biased hehehehehe
Hey Martha. My grandmother lived to be 87 I think and she said onions and buttermilk kept her alive. Have a great weekend and a Happy Mothers day. -jim
I didn't know the history behind the song until just now. I did a Wikipedia search and read about the meaning behind the lyrics. Thanks Ann. By the way, the music on these videos comes live from satellite radio in the car. -jim
