I have seen lives saved by ECT. Memory loss is RARE, only seen the first day or so, due to general 'wooziness' from the general anaesthetic. We don't assume that there is permanent memory loss and brain damage when people have been under anaesthetic for having a tooth out. This procedure DOES work and carries little or no side effects. Ask people who have been saved by it, instead of listening to the media's scandalisation of that which offers hope to so many.
Ect saved my life. Today I will have my 5th treatment. Very cool with fantastic results. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to have these treatments done. Thank you to the team of professionals who are saving me. No torture involved at all, in fact I didn't even know it was done until the nurse told me. A very neat experience that I highly recommend.
I would like to hear more of your story. I am considering ECT and would like to hear from people first hand. How well did it work? Are you still in remission? What type of follow up treatment do you have.
In the late 1950's the CIA had a secret brainwashing program called MKUltra they paid a Dr Cameron in montreal to carry it out He applied massive Electric Shocks 80 times stronger than what was considered normal he injected LSD and put people to sleep for weeks on end while a brainwash tape played I am telling my story on You Tube called youkilledyourmother
I am a nursing student and in my clinical today. I had the privledge of watching a ECT perform on my patient. It was so cool. I was painless and seem to help her. She told me that this has been the only thing that has worked for her. Her only complaint about it was how early she had to be at the hospital to get the treatment. As long as the person feeling better that is all that matter.
I was diagnosed with major depression over 15 years ago. No medication, med combo, therapy, or anything else has helped. The only things I haven't tried are MAOIs and ECT.
I would gladly try MAOIs (if a doctor would say yes to prescribing them), but there is NO way I would ever do ECT, despite pressure from my mom. Yes, I do believe it is barbaric, inhumane, and should never be allowed on patients who do not give overt written consent.
It might work in some people- but for most its a short term thing with long term side effects. The reason it causes memory loss is because it is causing damage to your brain..
I think people should have a choice to have ECT but an informed and non-coercive choice, most of the people I know have suffered long term negative effects for little or no gain.
Convinced and even forced to do it by powerful people- doctors, social workers and family who they trust while in a despirate state.
Such a great comment from a very wise person. I think you need to explain in more detail what you mean because what you said implies several different concepts and ideas.
My wife has had ECT many times, we had tried so many drugs, seen her go through many suicidal episodes and violent attacks. The only thing I have ever seen which has worked has been ECT.
Everybody gets depressed lol why are you people frying your brains

@MenaceTX You are lying. I am confident of that.

@MenaceTX It's like any mental health treatment - it works great for some, not so well for others. I'm happy that it's working out for you.

@photo986 80 times normal is bullshit. 3 or 4 times normal produces death.

Way to glorify giving people permanent brain damage.

The paradise that God intended for humans versus the hell we now live in is the catalyst for mental illness in my opinion. Reality is depressing...

What a shrewed way of lying to people!
The risks are far greater than they say here, and therapies like TFT(Thought Field Therapy)will often solve the problem with no risk whatsoever
