If only everyone who's holding a bird prisoner in a cage right now could see this & be moved to set them free, or relocate them to a sanctuary. Sadly, most pet birds were stolen from their homes in So. America & other tropical climates & if you live in Ohio you can't just release them & expect them to survive. But there are sanctuaries & aviaries where at least they can fly a bit. When I see a caged bird my heart breaks. God gave them wings to fly. If only this show had taught people that lesson
Ron Howard and I are the same age, so I could always relate to this show; life was really like that back then! So sad we lost this America...........and force kids to grow up way too fast by exposing them to what we do now.
Here is the true innocence of an era that tought us how to respect and care for others. This was television that the entire family could watch without having to explain to our children about levitra and KY Gel commercials.
This is easily the greatest story that was ever told through the medium of television. Its message of responsibility and the redemption that comes with ownership for one's actions is a powerful and always current one.
They just don't make them like this anymore, that's for sure, classic.

I love this episode! Richard Crenna directed this and is favored by most of the cast and crew of TAGS.

"The cage looks awful empty, don't it Pa?"
"Yeah son, it sure does! but don't the trees look nice and full?"
That's what it's all about right there...
