Good video, but why teach this in the shallow end? What about becoming a quadriplegic when diving into shallow water? You need to reshoot this vid. in the deep end to be giving a safe message!

@luegmiah Yeah but if you wanna do it competitively you need to be able to shallow dive aswell don't u I suppose, but you have a point, our coach tried to get us to dive without our arms into deep water and this girl split her head open, new found respect for paraolympians yano!

@luegmiah Actually, if you're in the water at 5 feet it's not considered shallow. Competitive swimmers dive in at 5 feet off the blocks to race. I always thought 5 feet was shallow but I guess it's not, if you know what you're doing.

I clicked on this video to help everyone who is having trouble diving.

To start, I don't quite understand how this is difficult, diving just came to me naturally.

But ok, you can belly flop right, well try to belly flop with yourself angled more torwards the pool each time, or try doing off the pool steps

If it is water getting in your nose that ur worried about, dont. The water glides off the top of your nose like a torpedo going through the water.

@sweetdreamsbabyy -that's what my teacher did with me.because if you dive in the shallow end you might hit your head.if you jump in the deep end...you won't hit you head.and many people think they will drown in the deep end if they don't know how to swim.that's not true...we have air in our body that will allow us to float.we will only drown if we get scared because .you will panic which will cause you to loose air then drown...and even if the child panics.the teacher will be their to save him.

NEVER teach your child to dive in the shallow end of a pool. If you wouldn't dive there, then your child should not dive there. If an instructor at the pool I work at taught a child to dive in the shallow end, they would probably be fired. Don't dive into shallow water!

swimming is easy, however it takes lots of practice. Im 15 and i just started swimming this summer. I taught everything to myself. I go 7 days of week now since its summer and ive improved in 3 weeks time. I can even beat some of the adults. Good luck and just dont be afraid to take risk because when i was teaching myself i did cough at times or drink water. Good luck. oh also its fun :)

yea at first i found it hard to float on my back. This was b/c i was afraid i would swallow water if i tried it; however, i after i just put my head back while lying on the water and kicking my feet, I was able to float on my back. Just keep your head back and kick your feet rapidly and youll get the hang of it. :)
