@doncocorote1 Unbeliavable. My mother's cousin had similar injury few years ago with similar operation on his knee plus lower part of the leg, and price was 0. From Croatia, next to Slovenia :).
Hello I am Gavin from Canada and i will try to do my best to explain how our health care is paid for. Canadian health care is paid for by the taxes you pay, now there is not a standard rate for taxes. You get taxed by how much money you make and then that will get divided up into different departments. So we Canadians are not suffering from the taxes, we benefit as a society not as an individual and that's the way it should be. I see nothing wrong for paying taxes to help my fellow countrymen.
"Free health care" isn't actually free. Everyone pays for it. What's being and should be debated is why US can't provide such a system, while other developed and economically healthy nations could do so. Why could American government consistently use tax payers' money so generously to wage wars all over the Earth, while education, social benefits, and social securities has been cut every year for nearly a decade?
@sesenke Why could a 10%-income-tax, democratic country Taiwan could afford a universal health care system and still be "foreign debit free," while the 30% income tax US could do nothing close to it? Most important of all, why American doctors so frequently suck at what they're doing while we pay so much for health care? --- by a person who lived in Taiwan for 16yrs and has been living in the US for 13yrs, who still prefers to see Taiwanese dentists - just better and cheaper- whenever possible.
@sesenke Morally and pratically, health care is one of the fundemental needs of mankinds. Citizens paying for public facilities doesn't seem to make US communist or socialist, why would health care? Paying for police force, fire departments, libraries, and more that most ppl would use way less than hospitals doesn't seem to make Americans angry, why would health care? The private health care system is OVERPRIZED, and it's not supposed to cost this much. Don't let cost alone blind your vision.
@sesenke And last but not least, PEOPLE ARE NEVER SHY OF CAMCODERS WHEN THEY THINK THEY"RE RIGHTEOUS AND CAN WITHSTAND THOROUGH INSPECTIONS AND CRITICISM. Universal Heatlh Care is a compulsory of any democratic government to its citizens BEFORE it goes political.
Some of you guys just don't get it. The american system is better for you - if you are richer than a certain level. But if you' re below that, you're doomed. All the OECD countries have universal health care, except for the U.S..
You are spending more money than anyone else on health care. Yet you fail to archive the level of general ('general' means everyone, not just the wealthy citizens) health of the other western countries.
Yeah that is true many european peope travel to US to get better health care but the problem is they are not poor and they could afford this luxury. It is a shame that USA as we are always being told are the best place to live but the country is not even able to care about people who are not able to do this on their own. I now about state provide care for poor but it is not enought. The basic problem of US health care system is that it is made for big profit not to help...
My question is .... if no one is denied health care in the US, Why these people died? Life is more important than money, Why didn't people got deeply in debt to save their own lives? Also, if there's no jail for these debts, If people can't pay them, the only consequence would be to have a lousy credit score. That's not the best possible scenario but at least people would live.
@JohnLennon100 If they had no money to pay for operations they wouldn't have money to pay off debts which instantly means they wouldn't even be able to get the credit as they would be marked by same capitalistic bullshit banks as not reliable and not being able to bring money back to them.
@Packerd01 And somehow, in a strange land called Belgium, in the centre of Europe, I'm getting medication wich normally cost me 2000€ a year for only 200€/year.
Don't get me wrong packerd, I know Obame failed but his basic idea is good and could work. And not all people are fortunated as the rest of us to have a job. People regardless what they do or did should always have something to rely on, healthcare is one of them. Refusing to help someone because he can't afford insurance is inhuman
"I work 3 jobs".................."Fantastic, uniquely American...............It shows how detached our politicians are! The lady wasn't bragging George!
well I live in argentina (south america) and even we have a decent free and public health care... makes me wonder if it is really worth being the number one military power in the world while the lower classes suffer so many abuses and have such a poor life quality. im also amazed with how many americans still support rupublicans after ppl like nixon or bush. im guessing they have been brainwashed into some kind of lies sponges... they just absorb them all
I live in Europe and i think the movie Sicko is great. The lies from the US governement about the "bad" Europe health care system is shocking..and americans really believe that crap. Our governement run health care system is great and we have newest technology + improve quality. What is wrong with the USA?
@Packerd01 Are you really that retarded?? People don't go to the us for difficult or expensive operations, they go because in the us they've more advanced technology for the treatment.
Other way around happens too, Americans come to Europe because europe has clinics with newest tech. Like on treating several cancers.
Micheal Moore is right about this. How would u like it when u're bleeding to death and have to wait several hours because you can't afford ensurance...
@Scallopshell98 you are either retarded are are just so selfish that you don't won't Americans or other citizens moving to your precious Europe! My wife is European and has duel citizenship and you are full of shit! She never stops talking about the medicine, doctors and Heath care nit health business like here in this shit hole country. I've met MiM and you are clueless.
@Packerd01 Ahh. With a response like that Sir how can I not concede that you are in fact right? I tip my hat to you Sir. I have been bested yet again.
@Packerd01 ..“Hundreds of desperate people, most without any medical insurance, descended on the clinic from out of the hills. People queued in long lines to have the most basic medical procedures carried out free of charge. Some had driven more than 200 miles from Georgia. Many were treated in the open air. Potter took pictures of patients lying on trolleys on rain-soaked pavements.”
@Packerd01 I don’t know if you know who Wendle Potter is. He is a former bigwig of a HMO who had a crisis of conscience (godforbid)…after his saw this....
@Packerd01 To an extent it works, better than USA anyway. Yeah longer waiting times but not in emergencies! If its vital you see a doctor, you will see a doctor! Doctor's are paid a lot of money too and to be honest salary should not be the sole reason you become a doctor anyway!
@Packerd01 Did you even watch the movie?? Why dont you tell the mother who lost her little baby because her HMO wanted her to go to another hospital is a sheeple.
Btw, I loved the end of the movie when Michael secertly gave that money to the guy who was hating him to save his wife's life! HA!
Its hopeless this country is corrupt. Not only is healthcare messed up, but our govt is being run by big business and they are slowly brainwashing us? I saw another documentary Programming the Nation? and it goes into great detail about the history of subliminal messaging and how government and ad companies could be using it today. This informational documentary needs to be seen so people are aware of what is subconsciously happening to them! Bitly .com/qWlrUr
Thank God for Medicare in AUS! there seem to be moves afoot her to try and make everyone subscribe to private health. I've considered it but it is expensive and my parents (who have private cover) still pay a lot of 'gap' between their medical bills and the cover. That an insurance company would be in charge of what treatment you can have is OUTRAGEOUS though!! What are the doctors getting paid if not their professional and honest opinion?? After seeing this film I will not buy healthcover.
Norway's rank varies by list but it is in the top ten of countries with the highest per capita income. What affects per capita income is GDP and population size. Thus it is an inaccurate measure of a country's true wealth as a whole. Norway has a small population relative to its GDP so per capita is high. In terms of GDP and asset values the US is the highest. Most of the wealth is concentrated at the top so the actual amount of income per person in the USA is probably even smaller.
@CloudtheNxssEffa aha yes, that is true. USA has the most money, but Norway has the most money per person. Or atleast was very high in the top 10, I believe whole of Scandinavia was quite high in such a list.
@kn9ioutom Liar's propaganda. Ron Paul keeps his words, unlike Obummer. Where are our troops? Still in Iraq! Where will they be? In Iran! How do we fund this? Borrow from China!
Ron Paul advocates charity hospitals, the kind that served with distinction before the health care system made them bankrupt. You stupid, gullible moron...
@arwyn89 Um, yes, more than a year behind schedule? Obama said he'd have them out within 16 months of his inauguration. He just brings them out now to be able to say "I AM THE PRESIDENT WHO BROUGHT THE TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ!" Still a liar. And now he's signed the NDAA too, even though he promised to veto it. The con got voted into office due to being black, next time vote for someone who's actually HONEST.
@DrStrangebomb1993 The problem with the US isn't Obama, it's how big business controls your nation. Washington is a puppet. The Republicans are making this happen.
@Maddie6385 In Australia, we pay a lump sum ambulance fee with our utility bill....so never an extra bill when we are sick and in need. Perhaps that's what they do in Canada?
It's not the republicans or democrats ,it's the people not demanding universal coverage by using the money they are already spendingon "Private Insurance" They should be redirecting that money to the States or at least to co-ops run at the state level and get Privat Insurance the hell out of there. Being forced to buy private ins. is wrong and will absolutely fail
@joaocaixinhas Yes, and Greece and Portugal are wonderful, are they not? Stealing money from the EU (Greece in particular) and running their economy into the muck.
Do you know what the queue is to get an organ of any type here in Sweden? Eight years.
People die in line waiting for cancer therapy.
And as for Cuba, please visit wwwDOTtherealcubaDOTcom rather than watching Sicko as your only source of information.
@DrStrangebomb1993 Yes asshole, but the reason for "bad" situation embargo of 40 years b7y USA... I can show you pics of hospitals from "FREE and DEMOCRATIC" proamerican Serbia, ... they are the same as those from your site...
@cubalibrebgd Bullshit. There exists no embargo, as little as there was an embargo on the USSR. It is - and was - the communist method of self-isolation that plunges Cuba into disrepair. That, and the fact that there are no private businesses in Cuba, which severely damages the economy.
But you're no doubt too thick to ever see sense even though I presently study economics, you'd rather believe Fatass Moore, the capitalist disguised as a man of the people? ;)
@DrStrangebomb1993 haha you are stupid... Comunist Yugoslavia was one of most powerfull countries in Europe until "demoNcracy" comes and destroy it to to take all resources, companies... Average Yugoslav family could be on holiday with ONE mounth salery of industry worker... now, in democracy, we can only pay bills and have low quality food from USA... And now there are private businesses, and USA embargo is still on power
@cubalibrebgd It's because Tito, unlike all others, refused to adapt to the economy of the USSR and instead paved his own path. I'd like to remind you that Chile under Pinochet was one of the most powerful economies of America as a whole during his time in office, so to use Yugoslavia as an example is pretty futile. Conversely, Romania, Hungary, East Germany and all other soviet states were WELL below the poverty line.
@cubalibrebgd If I had a nickel for every time a YouTube idiot ran out of arguments and tried to pull a fast one by calling me a kid, I wouldn't have to do this debating myself. You're a pathetic excuse for a debater and you know it, so you call a 18-year-old, politically-active person a kid? Okay... you leftists don't even have to try to convince me that you're stupid, you do it just by breathing.
If you watch this documantairy you realise America is run by conservatives who only think of their own wealth. In Europa we have higher productivity, healtier people and hapier people(hapiness index) because we care for everyone. On top of that we are in a way more healthy financial position.
If you disagree, I dare you to watch this documantairy till the end, and we wil see if you still disagree.
Best regards

All the people of the american congres should watch this movie , maybe that they then realise that they may be the richest country but at the same time so poor...
@wijfie123 lol they dont care. only about there own profits. (most of them). i dont know if you are a US citicen. but anyways, you guys stand millions strong. you just have to move to the streats and say NO MORE!
@repentandbesaved7 agreed. america is a free-for-all country. so when someone loses they feel helpless and depressed. if only they wached his movie they might get pissed off. but maybe the rich dont care and the poor cant afford tv :s
@13thREVOLUZION Canada here, but I am thinking of going over to Brit or Sweden, it looks nice and I love the system there so far.. bu there are a few dodgy issues that seems to rise which might alter my choice.
People don't realise that in England we have both a government run health care called the NHS and also a privatised health care system called BUPA. With BUPA you pay for all your treatment yourself, hence it is quicker and in more expensive surroundings. You still have to pay the same taxes though, that is the only down fall. But in my opinion the NHS is brilliant.
@Jesshogan Damn right. The NHS saved my life. I was in for two weeks, was fed, treated, multiple scans and four operations. The Doctors and nurses were amazing. In America, I would have been stabilised, kicked out and died. And if I hadn't died, I wouldn't have gotten access to the medications because of a pre-existing condition. The American health care system is the ugliest in the world. I would rather pay taxes for my entire life and never need it but know it was there for my loved ones.
People know. NHS is reliable for common, every day troubles. It earns less plaudits for waiting times and non-mainstream things. As in, you'll get an MRI for free instead of a copay, but you will likely wait several months or weeks unless its an emergency. Same thing for nearly any other service. Blood test turnaround time can be two weeks. And waiting times just to get on waiting lists that span 12 months have been 12 months in and of themselves.
@Jesshogan I have used both health care systems! In the US I have zero wait time, surgery is immediate, and if a specialist is required I see that doctor ASAP! I was in the UK in the emgergency room, and the nurses made all the medical decisions, I begged for an ultra sound and was told NO because there was no technician in the ER? Thank God I flew back to the US the next day and my US doctors admitted me into hospital for emergency surgery. I was told I could have died in the UK due to NHS!
@TheNova1960 Its for the greater good. If a few people die to save the majority. What harm is that when compared to some systems where the majority of the people die and the few live.
@TheNova1960 You may have misunderstood me my friend.I'm talking about universal health care. where it servers the majority , the minority is forced to live within the same bounds concerning health care as the majority. Which means even if you are well off you still are equal to the poorest person. I am in favor of it personally. Equality serves the most but goes against the rest. Which is one of the bad points of equality.
@Canadianloyalist123 All of my relatives in Europe, Canada, and Australia carry additional private health care insurance because they are fed up with socialized medicine! I personally don't like NHC but I also dislike managed health care. We don't need a middle man that's why it's expensive.
America take to your streets! you are being done over, don't you see? Considering you're seen as one of the best countries in the world, I find it unbelievable that you have a system that tends to the rich and leaves the poor to die. If that happened in my country, there would be an uproar! The people running the show have no souls, they must have sold them to the devil.
This is my experience with the Czech health care System, I had a drug overdose accident (yes shameful), had to call help, when they heard the case they immediately sent me an ambulance without my request, in the hospital they made a complete analysis includes blood ana., Heart ECG, an some other stuff, the more they did the more I was worried bout the hospital bill and the possibility of having to deal with police afterwards for drug abuse.
4 hours later they were ready to send me back home, and I asked the doctor if there will be some legal questioning, she smiled and said this is a medical incident despite the cause, I’m like O-o, OK so how about the bill? Doctor said we are printing it, its going to be 90 CZK (equivalent to 5 $), gain I was like O-o, funny thing the taxi back home cost about 4 times more than :)
@North2016 No, not fail. Now wait does that mean that someone (capable of making an accurate film about US health system, capable of accurately predicting events regarding the war and who made shockingly true observations about guns in America) is able to spot Cuba in place 39 and put it in his film? You know what I think so, and I think he might be pointing out that Cubans paid $251 for health care where as in the US in 2007 we were looking at $7,400. 'LOL FAIL!' to you too sir
So Mr. Moore you quote a poll in the movie that says the U.S health-care system is far lower in comparison to other countries around the world, but if you look closely at that same poll, Cuba is 2 places BELOW the U.S. & yet you say Cuba's
Americans why dont you want to give poor childeren healthcare ?
are you all monsters ? stop babling about socialism you non-human beings be honest american and say you are for genocide of the poor ok,i dont see any other reason why you would denie healthindurance to poor childeren
@TheArguseyes poor children will get healthcare if they go to a non-profit hospital. St. Jude is a perfect example, they have never turned away a child because of money. But if you go to a profit hospital and you can't pay then they could say no.
@froodsbag what does that have to do with crime being down the persons who did it is probaly still doing break ins. You really think that because they scared them off with their gun they quit being criminals LOL.
@Lilmike759 ... you have completely missed the point. It's about access to healthcare and how a system could be made fairer for all the people ... not about who is fat or thin. Healthy people can get ill too you know.
No way! Do people in America have to pay for operations and medicine? Do they not have the NHS! So when i was stoned out of my face i freaked out and phoned an Ambulance convinced i was dying lol would u have 2 pay 4 that ambulance ride the x ray and the blood test i had done if i lived their?
Im from Canada and we watched this in social class I was so pissed off at the states after watching this terroists got free health care when people of your own country dont there is something wrong their buddy
erm why not decrease military budget which is bigger then the one of the rest of the world and get that money into health care... i mean 500 bilion dollars and more into military thats sick dude...
@darkomerc0806 Wow, another niaeve (sp) and unappreciative individual. We have the best military in the world! How the fuck can you sit there on your ass and say it sucks? Have you done ANYTHING with the military? Have you not been around the past few years of us kicking ass overseas? How about WW2? We kicked ass. We definitely don't suck. You couldn't make it one DAY in ANY branches basic training or boot camp. So before you speak, get informed on the subject because our military is the shit.
you don't suck??? you definatly do... how long does the pointless war in Afganistan goes on?? not talking about the "great" military of Iraq that had misliles from 60's and tank from 50's you defeated GO YANKIES attack Russia and see how u win :D WW2? that was was won thanks to your greatest nemesis "The Soviet Union". The battle at Normandy was kids play compared to what happened at Stalingrad or Battle at Kursk.
@BournePhenom then why US still worries of North Korea, Russia, China. And read the war history in Vietnam, europe and other's country edition, not US edition. US is nothing but a puppet of Israel.
@jentreyu57 You're hilarious Canada. How many wars has Canada been a MAJOR contributor (sp) to? Very few. It's great that you all can get off the couch every once in a while but America has put more troops in Afghanistan and Iraq than any other country. And we worry about those countries because they're unstable, and when one of them DOES decide to snap and attack other countries, Canada's ass will be running to America, along with many others.
@BournePhenom Don't usually the US "Snap" and attack other countries in the past few years? Osama was a Saudi hiding in Paksitan and neither of this countries was attacked/liberated by the US. Just because the USA are the most powerful country in the world (until now at least) it doesn't make it my preferred choice to run to...
@AlexLeSmu The U.S. doesn't run the world. Good thing too. While I love and support my country our government has it's own problems right now and the last thing I would want is Obama running the entire world. That just sounds bad.
@redeyeshannibal I have already shown that capitalism does not exist in the US (because of fractional reserve banking and tons of regulations and useless laws). Your second point about a classless society is utopian nonsense not deserving of an intelligent response.
@redeyeshannibal In capitalism, you are definitely free to share your stuff. The more stuff there is, the higher the tendency to share. The belief that the rich rule while the poor suffer is the lie told to us by the MSM. Whenever a disaster happens, blame it on capitalism and give more power to politicians, or in propaganda language, give more power to the 'people'. There is NO free market in the US when you have a crisis-generating central bank and 70,000 pages of regulations in the books.

JohnLennon100 4 months ago
@JohnLennon100 If they had no money to pay for operations they wouldn't have money to pay off debts which instantly means they wouldn't even be able to get the credit as they would be marked by same capitalistic bullshit banks as not reliable and not being able to bring money back to them.

@Packerd01 Are you really that retarded?? People don't go to the us for difficult or expensive operations, they go because in the us they've more advanced technology for the treatment.
Other way around happens too, Americans come to Europe because europe has clinics with newest tech. Like on treating several cancers.

Direksone 5 months ago
@Direksone
CloudtheNxssEffa 5 months ago
@CloudtheNxssEffa aha yes, that is true. USA has the most money, but Norway has the most money per person. Or atleast was very high in the top 10, I believe whole of Scandinavia was quite high in such a list.

cubalibrebgd 3 months ago
@cubalibrebgd Bullshit. There exists no embargo, as little as there was an embargo on the USSR. It is - and was - the communist method of self-isolation that plunges Cuba into disrepair. That, and the fact that there are no private businesses in Cuba, which severely damages the economy.
But you're no doubt too thick to ever see sense even though I presently study economics, you'd rather believe Fatass Moore, the capitalist disguised as a man of the people? ;)

And now there are private businesses, and USA embargo is still on power
cubalibrebgd 3 months ago
@cubalibrebgd It's because Tito, unlike all others, refused to adapt to the economy of the USSR and instead paved his own path. I'd like to remind you that Chile under Pinochet was one of the most powerful economies of America as a whole during his time in office, so to use Yugoslavia as an example is pretty futile. Conversely, Romania, Hungary, East Germany and all other soviet states were WELL below the poverty line.

Jesshogan 7 months ago 30
@Jesshogan Damn right. The NHS saved my life. I was in for two weeks, was fed, treated, multiple scans and four operations. The Doctors and nurses were amazing. In America, I would have been stabilised, kicked out and died. And if I hadn't died, I wouldn't have gotten access to the medications because of a pre-existing condition. The American health care system is the ugliest in the world. I would rather pay taxes for my entire life and never need it but know it was there for my loved ones.
biggingeryeti 5 months ago
@Jesshogan
& BUPA is v. expensive.
bumshka21 5 months ago
@Jesshogan I have used both health care systems! In the US I have zero wait time, surgery is immediate, and if a specialist is required I see that doctor ASAP! I was in the UK in the emgergency room, and the nurses made all the medical decisions, I begged for an ultra sound and was told NO because there was no technician in the ER? Thank God I flew back to the US the next day and my US doctors admitted me into hospital for emergency surgery. I was told I could have died in the UK due to NHS!
TheNova1960 4 months ago
@TheNova1960 Its for the greater good. If a few people die to save the majority. What harm is that when compared to some systems where the majority of the people die and the few live.
Canadianloyalist123 4 months ago
@Canadianloyalist123 What? In the USA no one can be turned away legally not even illegals!
TheNova1960 4 months ago
@TheNova1960 You may have misunderstood me my friend.I'm talking about universal health care. where it servers the majority , the minority is forced to live within the same bounds concerning health care as the majority. Which means even if you are well off you still are equal to the poorest person. I am in favor of it personally. Equality serves the most but goes against the rest. Which is one of the bad points of equality.
Canadianloyalist123 4 months ago
@Canadianloyalist123 All of my relatives in Europe, Canada, and Australia carry additional private health care insurance because they are fed up with socialized medicine! I personally don't like NHC but I also dislike managed health care. We don't need a middle man that's why it's expensive.
TheNova1960 4 months ago
America take to your streets! you are being done over, don't you see? Considering you're seen as one of the best countries in the world, I find it unbelievable that you have a system that tends to the rich and leaves the poor to die. If that happened in my country, there would be an uproar! The people running the show have no souls, they must have sold them to the devil.
Jesshogan 7 months ago
This is my experience with the Czech health care System, I had a drug overdose accident (yes shameful), had to call help, when they heard the case they immediately sent me an ambulance without my request, in the hospital they made a complete analysis includes blood ana., Heart ECG, an some other stuff, the more they did the more I was worried bout the hospital bill and the possibility of having to deal with police afterwards for drug abuse.
beachXYZ 7 months ago

@redeyeshannibal In capitalism, you are definitely free to share your stuff. The more stuff there is, the higher the tendency to share. The belief that the rich rule while the poor suffer is the lie told to us by the MSM. There is NO free market in the US when you have a crisis-generating central bank and 70,000 pages of regulations in the books.
