  • And ignorance in any form such as you have illustrated here NEVER ceases to amaze ME! Thanks for spreading the hate. My little poor white trash ass will now go out and spread twice as much love and understanding than you can spread uneducated ignorance such as this.

  • Taptele,

What is wrong with speaking the truth?

You do not show much tolerance that is for sure.

  • shut up troll

  • Why is it that people always define themselves by race firstly and country secondly?

    Ex: African-American

This leads to division of our country and our people.

    Matthew 12:25

"And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand".

  • Why do people refer to themselves as Italian-American? Why do people refer to themselves as Irish-American? Why do people refer to themselves as Mexican-American? German-American? Greek-American? Why do ethnic groups have communities? With all due respect, why not ask all of these other ethnicities and communities why they take the liberty of identifying themselves in that manner and THEN come back to Black Americans?

  • I do not disagree with you. You totally missed my point.

Everyone, especially those born in the homeland should identify themselves as an American first and foremost, then racial heritage.

Even though my ancestors are from Switzerland I do not call myself a Swiss-American.

I am just an American PERIOD...I was born in the USA.

  • That's understood and respected. However, many people will alternately refer to themselves as American AND (for example) African-American as well. It does not mean their American identity comes second--it's simply become an affirmation of identity & heritage WITHIN the American context. :)

  • My original fact still stands that those who are born in this country should identify themselves as Americans first and foremost.

Not only that though, let's face it most people are of from a diverse racial heritage and to give prominence to one single part of your ancestry does not make sense.

I am from Swiss (Fathers side) and Irish (Mothers side) Shall I call myself a Swiss-Irish-American...NO, because it just doesn't make sense.

Claim the land of your birth and proclaim it proudly.

  • Well, MrAnonymize, how about we let people come to their own conclusions about which identity they choose to proclaim? Hmmm? Doesn't that sound democratic? After all, it is the American right for the individual to choose which identity they feel is right for them and comfortable with, not to do what you or anyone else except what the individual feels is appropriate. :) Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

    Signed, a proud American and African-American. :)

  • @RETROGEMS I have no problem with that. I think the problem is that you don't know what a person wants to be called until it's too late. I know people who bristle at the word "black"--and people who don't. The problem is that it's an individual decision---if I get offended because some guy referred to me as "black"---how was he supposed to know I have a problem with it when he went to school with many folks who didn't care?
