  • Thank you for sharing your meaningful moment during your doctoral program. It's very easy to feel alone and discouraged during a PhD program, but knowing that others are going through the same strenuous process helps give hope-- even if it's in another discipline. Just looking at the other comments confirms that your sharing has encouraged others. I can't wait till we're calling you Dr. ~ Much love, J. Holmes, PhD (Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Mgmt)

  • your hair is absolutely beautiful. keep up the good work

  • Thanks for sharing about your proposal! I'm looking forward to doing the same a few years from now. I really like this initiative, but I've got to say...I went to that meaningful beauty website and it's unfortunate that women are still being pressured into buying creams to prevent ageing...There is no such thing as anti-ageing unless you're Benjamin Button! And lol at it being a "European system" made by a MAN to make it sound more legitimate. Smh, ads for cosmetics can be quite silly.

  • I totally feel your pain. I am in a doctoral program as well! Prayer works 100% lol. Good luck and love the hair!

  • @FreedumMuse Really..that's awesome! You're right about Materials Science not being that well known as an engineering field. It plays a part in just about EVERYTHING though! That's really cool that you will be studying in that area as well. Praying you have a wonderful graduate school journey!

  • Mae you look amazing. God bless you, Chica!

  • I so love your spirit and overall beautiful personality. You are a joy to watch.

  • @youngking122 Part of being natural is the versatility it gives us. We can wear it straight one day and embrace our natural texture the next. Even if she wore it straight all the time (which I don't see any evidence of), that's her business. It doesn't take away from her contribution to the natural community or mean that she used anybody. People watch her vids because they are helpful, so if she got popular for giving good hair advice and style suggestions, good for her!

  • Congratulations! It's wonderful to see people giving back to the community. Even though I don't make much, I always find a way to give back. Your an inspiration to me Mae, and I thank God for letting me discover you. God bless you.

  • your hair is beautiful!

  • The saying goes, pretty is as pretty does. Mae is pretty and does good things too. Very pretty indeed.

  • Mae, your a ROCKIN ROCKET SCIENTIST!!! lol go girl

  • Hi Anika, just thought i'd share a bit of what I know:

I've heard Castor oil can stimulate growth. There is a wealth of info on the web towards this. As well, thinning of sides can be controlled by reducing the amount of tension on sides, esp, when hair is pulled back freq/ braided. Constant Brushing of edges can also pull out 'baby' and fine hairs, or cause breakage, leaving a thinned out look.

As disparaged as you may feel, this is common and can be corrected, if care is taken. Feel better.

  • I'm going to check out the shelter and see how I can donate/volunteer!

  • love ur hair

  • hi mae, I would really loveeeeeeee you to do a vid on thinning edges. I have been natural for six months now but my edges are really really thin, so could you please give me some info on this topic, becuz right now, I just feel like throwing some relaxer back into. :(

  • Congrats on your approval being approved!! I have been watching your hair journey on YT since the beginning and you have remained so down to earth, humble and sweet. :)
