  • Lamapalooza !

  • For me the first clarinet is people sleeping, an hour before dawn, then the second comes in, dawn is approaching, wrappers open on the side of the street like flowers in the sunlight, people get up to go to work or their daily routine. By 1:10 I imagine the horn is the noise of people starting work for the day and up until 2:50 that is the busy day they are having. 2:50 The busy day is then over and things start to wind down as the city prepares to slow down as people go home for another day.

  • when music makes you imagine - it is real music

  • i'm so nostalgic with this song OMG!!!!!!!!!

  • MEMORIE MEMORIES MEMORIES!

  • If there was ever a movie for sim city they should start if off with this tune. *the sun slowly rising in the horizon and the sleeping city starts to awaken*

  • Holy crud, never realized how good this song is when I played SimCity 4 6-7 years ago.

  • Does this song remind anyone else of "fake plastic trees" by radiohead?

  • el trabajo de las trompetas y el ritmo y los cornos es increible aca.

  • I played this driving down a freeway into a town and yes it was in the morning. (mid morning)

  • Inspiration... in every second...

  • Who knew something like a morning commute could be so... artistically interpreted. Makes you forget all the traffic jams and the road rage. xD

  • i imagine a city with thousands of residents, suburbs on rolling hills overlooking a huge metropolis area with skyscrapers reaching Olympus itself, and a single pulling out its garage, to go to work, it stops behind some cars, those cars join even more, and more, until our Hero is lost in a sea of cars and bikes, people running down the sidewalk to get to work, or rest at a coffee shop and talk to some friends, then night falls, and the car, returning from its commute, rests for the next commute

  • And so one day, commutting became epic.

  • i play this on my way to work :)

  • I don't see how the clarinet adds a lethargic feel...if anything it sounds busy and bustling once the horns and strings start layering on top of it :D

  • I imagine a small group of soldiers after a war. Alone, they start scanning the area for survivors. Soldiers from all nationalities, even past enemies, join them as they begin the long journey home. the camera zooms out and you see there are thousands of soldiers, hundreds of thousands of soldiers walking through the burned out countryside as the sun rises.

  • epic music

  • AT LAST! Such a great piece of music! Took me months to find it!

  • this song always sends chills down my spine and sometimes even tears in my eyes

  • Award bait notwithstading, exceptional song

  • My moring commute sucks here in Chicago

  • It is as if each instrument represented a different type of a vehicle among the morning commute, so beautiful...

On that note, I hate being part of morning commute.

  • I sounds similar like Jurassic Park on the beginning :)

  • @Romerjon17 It does surpirsingly for like 3 seconds

  • i play this when i get on my bus to school early in the morning. it makes the day that much more exciting :D

  • I HOPE THERE IS SIMCITY 5!!! :( i remember this song playing while i plop beaches along the coastline lol ohh memories..

  • You can hear the transition between the big brass part of the song being (in my opinion) the tall skyscrapers to the innocent flute/clarinet part being the suburbs and slums. Brilliant!

  • After hearing this, I want to play SC4! Amazing piece of music that I've always enjoyed whenever its come up ingame.

  • i love how almost every sim city 4 music track video here on youtube has no thumps down

  • I don't know why, but this reminds me of some of the music from Civilization 4, which is great because I love both of their musical scores sooooo much.

  • Why is the best video game music ever, stuck in this game?

I love this game, and I love this music.

Why can't every game have music as inspiring and inspired as this.

I love this music, and I love this game.

  • @tantoedge LOL. I visited over 50 different Game OST's on youtube in the past month, and on every video, people are adamnt that the current song playing ever is the BEST piece of Video Game Music ever. And the other half of the time, they talk about how nostalgic the song makes them feel, taking them back to a simpler time. From 8-bit NES tunes, to tunes from COD.....they inspire so much in people. Playing while listening.

Man. How I love thee, Video Game Music, whatever form you take.

  • WHAT GENIUS WROTE THIS AMAZING PIECE?!!?

  • @Link1001studios Jerry Martin did. i started playing SimCity 4 recentely, and since i'm actually a musician i couldn't help to stop paying attention to the game and start listening carefully when this started. it's a real quality composition.

  • @Link1001studios

Andy Brick wrote this particular track. According to EA's Sim City website, Both Andy And Jerry worked on the orchestral music for Sim City 4. Both the game credits and Andy Brick's website credit this track and Wheels of Progress to Andy Brick

  • If you like Sim City music check out Sibelius' Symphony No. 6 - II. Allegretto moderato.

  • If you guys like this kinda song, like I do, look up "The Promise of Living" by Aaron Copland, the first listing on youtube. It's similar in its lush harmonies and gradual buildup into a beautiful crescendo. Both glorious songs speaking more than words about the promise of living.

  • I always imagine this as the little car that comes out of the neighborhood, and out on the horizon is the bustling metropolis of which all their hopes lie.

  • This song sounds exactly like "The Ice Dance" by Danny Elfman when it starts out. Then it becomes its own song. <3

  • its a good song i love it now i can hear it now

i have deluxe love the music thanks for uploading

  • Andy Brick is the composer of this and Wheels of Progress on SC4. I believe I purchased a full score of this from him. From my perspective he is without a doubt a gem in video game music composition.

  • a working stiff's fantasy

  • This piece should have been added in Disney's Fantasia 2000...

  • I like 0:48 where it seems like you're off on an adventure

  • I love this song. For me, music like this pushed SC4 above its predecessors. They were all great games, but this one had a level of complexity and nuance the others lacked. I think this song is a perfect example of that.

  • *----*

  • magnificient, i can cry on this song

  • it puts a smile on my face.. it's a sense of accomplishment when this song plays loudly in the background as you watch your city come alive.

  • I love this song! when I listen it, I remember all my best childhood memories.

  • It starts off sad....and then it uplifts...This is the best song on Sim City!!! :)

  • I lost the song in the game and am un able to play it does anyone know how to fix this problem

  • I think that you can change which music playing in the options.

  • you can but i accidentally changed the name in the file & it got Fucked up so it wont play

  • Reminds me of Philip Glass.

  • This is my fav if not one of my fav song in sim city

  • I always listen to this while on my way to work/college in the morning. 7AM onwards x)

  • best song in the game. awesome to see development during this song ;)

  • This piece of music makes me cry - its perfect in every way.

This is how I picture it.

In the beginning, the camera is on a person [voiced by a clarinet ]- that person is sitting in a corner -lonely. The other "clarinet" comes in the view and sits by first voice. The two talk to one another about their loneliness. The camera starts to slowly pull back and all these voices appear - each belonging to an individual in the picture.

They all begin to realize that they are not alone. :)

  • Love it! That is a wonderful image to go with it.

  • @VoilaMsViola scriptwriter alert :D

  • favorite.

  • Fantastic, absolutely fantastic

this made me cry fewe times...but smileing!

  • Comment removed

  • This made me smile.

  • this song is pure magic...it really throws your brain into a state of imagination and deep thought...

    Wonderful song!

  • you're right: pure magic

  • This song gives me goosebumps. So touching and uplifting.

  • Soundtrack from Sim City 4 is one of best i've ever heard. Comments below are nice to, especially the one from

    Animewatcher112 and

    VisualCSharp.

  • So fucking moving!! Especially that brass!!!

Fav song on Sim City 4! it really helps me build cities.

  • This is the perfect city-building music. Wonderfully written, both in its sound and its purpose. I'd love to shake hands with the composer.

  • Jerry Martin ;)

    He's one of my idols.

  • I want to meet Jerry Martin!! Wow, what a guy... :P I CANNOT get over this piece! It conveys so much life!

  • this song is actually sad.....:(

  • Sad and uplifting at the same time, genius

  • yeah it is.... Longing and... adventurous at the same time <=)

  • This is a great song, especially with that powerful low brass section. The reverse cymbal just completes the melody. THE best song I've ever heard on a video game. It just inspires creativity...

  • Ya i cryed because my mom went away for a long time and this is the first time being alone im scared and alone i feel that no one is there for me anymore but listening to simcity sont tracks i just forget about those and i just feel like i have someone to talk to

  • when the low brass hits those notes, i just turn into butter, its like listening to a great city come alive

  • this song really reflects the traffic flow from the wee hours of the morning, to the midday traffic.

  • Imagine a single car pulling out of the driveway in a sleepy suburb. Imagine you are viewing this car from a camera floating just above the car, pointed in the same direction the car is going.

The car starts as just one car, but as it progresses on its commute, the camera pulls back and up, revealing more cars. Eventually the car merges onto the highway. The brass instruments are the noises of the other cars as they are revealed by the camera.

  • Woha dude that was a good quote

  • That's exactly how I picture this song. Then the camera watches the cars all join a main road, leading into the city.

  • @VisualCSharp

And then, the cars part ways, and the one car enters a parking garage.

At this time, the brass instuments dies down, and the parking lot is silent.

The car, then parks, and the engine turns off.

The person, now focused on, walks into a office building, where, he goes in a elevator, taking him to the 16th floor.

He enters his cubicle, and goes to work.

  • Maxis really went to great lengths to employ an actual orchestra to play this piece. They need to do the same with the next SimCity, and by SimCity, I mean one actually developed by Maxis.

  • T'his track is my favorite in SimCity4!

  • This music is a masterpiece, I remember when I first heard it from the game, I cried.... the little boy cried.

  • Let me just put it this way, this song, IS THE BEST SONG EVER!!!!

  • Yeah, it does sound like Spirited Away and Matilda. Both have great scores.

  • lol, Morning Commute .. imagine if the early rush hour all listened to this kind of stuff... there'd be no aggro .. :-)

  • teh clarinet in teh beginning sounds DIFFERENT it haz lots moar echo sound

i think teh clarinet was placed near the back to get teh echo soundz

  • This piece reminds me of the movie Matilda. XD Don't ask, I haven't the foggiest idea why!

But it is the best piece EVER

  • Best. Song. EVER!

  • nice. is the word that complements this peice. nothin else. just the word...NICE. :)

  • This always reminds me of Spirited Away!

  • Spirited Away is a really freaky movie! Giant frogs, sludge monsters and a demented child!

    Ugh!!!! :(

  • This always reminds me of a Broadway show for whatever reason.

  • teh frolicing woodwinds in teh last movement is cool

  • This is a great song! I hope to compose a piece like this someday.

  • I absolutely love the clarinet work in this piece. It's surreal value adds to the lethargic atmosphere of Sim City 4.

  • don't mean to sound rude, but what do you mean by lethargic? the word lethargic has a negative connotation for being slow, almost sickly and weak

  • I think he meant to say the peaceful and happy mood of simcity 4

  • @VBackseatRomeoV

It sounds what was meant was closer to 'Tranquil' or 'Serene', since it seems that the person in question likes the music.

  • @VBackseatRomeoV

I dont agree. I would say a whale is lethargic the way it moves - or the way a city grows. I dont think its a bad thing.

  • @VBackseatRomeoV lazy and laid-back

  • its awesome!@!!!
