  • Emil sent me here.

  • BUILD A NEW ROUTE TO CHINA IF THEY'LL HAVE YOU

  • It doesn't matter how you discovered this as long as you discovered it...stop trying to one-up each other

  • People are saying that it's sad that we didn't know of him before, but because of Kanye now we all have been introduced into the other side of music. People of our age aren't just going to be compelled one day out of the blue to find this. We have to be introduced.

  • Shit Kanye sure tailored that poem. A lot

  • @scienquist yeah he did a cool job, but he cut out the best parts

  • this is amazing!!!!!!!

  • @BizzyBoxx well said bro, well said

  • This is better than anything Kanye could ever do

  • @JRP21ification That's why Kanye didn't alter GSH's poem at all. Adoption of someone else's words to finish your album on reflects Ye's utmost humility and appreciation of a great.

  • I think it's disgusting that people who listen to Hip Hop don't know who Gil Scott-Heron is. He is the reason we have that genre of music to listen to.

  • "Your great grandfather tied a ball and chain to my balls and bounced me through a cotton field while I lived in an unflushable toilet bowl and now you want me to help you overthrow WHAT!" Great line.

  • ye showed me dis nigga back in 07 with my way home

  • And a rapist known as freedom, free-DOOM!

  • Yall shouldve been up on Gil wayyy before Kanye sampled him. His sample was the best part(lyrically) of that whole album.

  • Gil's the man. I'vebeen following some of is early works. Nothing but the truth…

  • kanye who?

  • FreeDOOM

  • is this the guy from the end of the movie Belly?

  • nobody knew about this before yeezy. dont pretend.

  • @bbri1991 you're an idiot

  • @bbri1991 no, you've got some catching up to do.

  • This man is a beast. Mr. West should be grateful that Mr. Scott-Heron lent his talents to Lost in the World/Who Will Survive in America. Props to Kanye and Gil.

  • Kanye sent me as well

  • what is Pau Gasol doing in this photo?

  • Who taught me about Gil Scott Heron? Luckily not Yeezy.

  • Who taught you about Gil Scott-Heron?Yeezy taught me.

  • Yeezy taught me well...

  • black allen ginsberg

  • one person is sitting on the curb crying knowing they will go home with a clear conscience and a college degree

  • Gill scott is a hero poet and im glad kayne has brought more attention to this poet/truth speaker

  • who will survive in america

  • Yeezy taught me

  • Comment removed

  • He divided our country. I don't know my ancestors, they might have owned slaves, but I didn't own one. I want to exist in a society where race can be a talking point, not a point that divides people.

  • @brianmayowns well then go out and make that place exist. when your white friends say something racist, don't ignore it. " either you are anti-racist or racist."

  • i looove this

  • Never heard of this guy before Dark Fantasy. I feel ashamed, and it makes me realize how much music there is out there to be explored. Thank you Kanye.

  • @DJLaszlo ohh soo true.

  • @ 1:45 "FREE DOOM" .. awesome. E

  • kanye digging up old gold.

  • anybody else curious as hell what Comment #2 is about?

  • @krkr12 It sounds dynamite.

  • Totally underrated piece of poetry!!

  • yeezy taught me

  • yeezy bought me

  • yeezy taught me

  • who the f*ck dislikes this?

  • @dismissed7 probably Douchebag #1

  • @krkr12 Lol!!

  • "with a clear conscience and a college degree..." man, this one still stings like mad.

  • "runaway child"... "college degree".. goddamn it Kanye, you've done it again

  • Kanye sent me here.

  • this is a beautiful poem..thank you kanye for sending me here.

  • i found this through james murphy

  • @Dakotizza what you say is what you are, and you spelled faggot wrong, nice!

  • Kanye West

  • A rapist known as freedom, Free Doom

  • @RaynMan718 my way home from late registration he sampled it from a Gil song titled home is where the hatred is

  • looks like common with hair

  • All the people complaing that Kanye sampled this, maybe you should listen to Gil's new record "I'm New Here" and listen for a certain song that bookends the album

  • @applejacks0819

    thank you.

  • Can't believe they let him curse this much back in 1970

  • @Macktube Back in the day, the words we used to express ourselves and how we felt would be considered politically incorrect today. But remember, this wasn't for mainstream radio. Not to have some GSH in your music collection was an indication that you were not in step with the movement.

  • @Macktube This was pretty underground stuff, it wasn't something that would end up on the radio.

  • @Reint25 i think gil was run out of the united states, over shit like this.

  • "...THE BUBBLING BUBBLING BUBBLING BUBBLING BUBBLING in the mother countries crotch" lmao

  • @AstroBoii412 really not funny :/

  • Comment removed

  • anyone else notice that only like 4 people clapped at the end?

  • @Donbon25 Nope, you're the only one who noticed that. Especially since KanYe didn't cut that out of the final track of the new record. Yes sir, you're the ONLY one.

  • @ChrS2003771 damn son i feel gooooood right now!!!!!!

  • genius

  • Incredible. I wish Kanye would have sampled the whole thing.

  • That's an epic beard-afro combination.

  • he looks like common

  • @TheMightyAxe88k no, common looks like him

  • This is from the 70's but it feels so relevant. "Build a road to China if they'll have you"...OMG!

  • who taught ya bout dis song?!?! yeezy taught me....

  • @WhoIsThisPace yeezy taught you well yeezy taught you well

  • Kanye West!!

  • Kanye's drum and bass layer is insane on Lost in the World. i listen to music for the music, fuck rhymes.

  • Like was the common we decided to use here, the one person who clicked Dislike was blown up by dynamite

  • he has a great voice

  • you know they should teach us this stuff when we learn about the civil rights movement in school. This has so much history in it and it is better than any lame primary source document...

  • he looks like common

  • thank you ye' for bringing this to my life....

    lol

  • the media shits on artist like kanye and nas. they are the only link left to enlighten young youths in america

  • @dhicks18 Go learn you some Immortal Technique if you think that Kanye and Nas are the only good ones.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk Ye doesnt enlighten youths, listen to his lyrics lol. Hes good and all. But listen to Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Asheru, The Roots, Askir and Rakim!

    Peace.

  • @jadonj Have listened to a number of those, think Immortal Technique is far better. Listen to his interviews. Go look up some Lowkey. Far better than the people you mentioned.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk Same shit, different coast. Immortal Technique is just Mos Def or Talib for the West Coast

  • @LordAkaneon Mos Def and Talib Kweli don't interest me, Immortal Technique's material is more intelligent.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk It's the same material. The phrasing is different. You want a real change? Last Emperor, Organized Konfusion, Kardinall Offishall, Rascalz, Choclair, Saigon

  • @LordAkaneon Clearly isn't the same material, mate. I've heard of Kardinall Offishall, Last Emperor and Organized Konfusion already. They're alright. Not great. So no, I don't want it.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk They're fuckin' legendary. That's the real underground. Immortal Technique, like every other rapper, copied from someone else. I find it funny that most people would rather listen to clones than listen to the original authors, for the sake of being 'modern' and 'hip'.

  • @LordAkaneon Yeah, I'm a real hipster, I mean look at me, listening to spoken-word poets. That's the definition of hip. *Rolls eyes*

I'm simply saying the artists you've listed out don't strike me as anything amazing. Immortal Technique is something else. Watch his interviews. This man is a genius. I've no interest in the ones you've listed out. Immortal Technique is not a clone. You clearly just prefer those artists. And that's alright. But Immortal Technique is greater.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk Beatniks were the original hipsters

  • @LordAkaneon lol what are beatniks? I';m pissed

  • @l2enegadesofFunk Lowkey is over-rated, hes good, but not better than Mos Def. People kinda need to get of Lowkey's dick tbh. I think Akala is over

    Lowkey too...

  • @jadonj Nah, he's not overrated. You're entitled to your opinion. I rate Lowkey far above the artists you mentioned there.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk In London he is though. Not saying he is crap, I think he's got skills, but I hate it that over UK artists don't get as much recognition.

  • @jadonj I'm from Ireland, lad. London means nothing to me. Lowkey gets every bit of recognition he deserves, and I don't think he's getting enough.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk Kanye and Nas are the only mainstream rappers that are good at it. Unfortunately Immortal Technique won't ever be able to reach the masses.

  • I FINALLY FOUND THIS!

  • @MrJesusX ME TOO!

  • This is deep, i actually want to write my own poem :)

  • A true poet

  • love gill scott heron, my dad got me into him,

  • @dariusen2006 <------ Album, Free

  • Thank Kanye for introducing me to some great poetry.. I already checked for dude after hearing 'New York Is Killing me'.. but this is just great

  • yeezy

  • WHO WILL SURVIVE IN AMERICA! Thank you, Kanyeezy! He's a fuckin' BEAST, SEE! Fuck everybody who hates him for the wrong reasons and chooses to focus on public persona! WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THAT?!?!!

  • wheeeeeeewh! i banged sum of gil scotts ish before but dang this is tight af

  • I've been following heron ever since kanye's late registration album. He is truly a deep and great poet.

  • This is amazing!!!!

  • @lakerman0834 Haha that does look like him

  • Does anyone know where I can download this song?

  • @dariusen2006 there's a link under the video for where you can download the song from amazon or itunes. you can also get the whole album this song was on from itunes by copy/pasting this link: itunes.apple.com/us/album/small-talk-at-125th-and-lenox/id254386824

  • @dariusen2006 there's a link under the video for where you can download the song from amazon or itunes.

  • @dariusen2006 itunes!

  • Damn, the white man shitted on that nigga in an unflushable toilet O_O

That right there is deeper than any feces metaphor Lil Wayne has EVER come up with. And of all people I'd call Wayne an expert when it comes to rhyming about shit.

  • @Aldridge517 id love to shake ur hand!!!!

  • @anotherbrian That is one of my favorite saying in existence. The shear brilliance and everlasting relevance of that phrase are infallible. Three simple words, one simple truth.

  • @vodkashot8 How do you take something out of context when you quote something verbatim in its entirety?

  • This isn't the first time Kanye used the powerful voice and words of Gil Scott Heron...there was a track on Late Registration...just shows you what Gil was talking about still has importance and impact today...and always...if dont know Gil Scott Heron get your spoken word bars up and understand the man is one of the sparks that created Hip-Hop.

  • First rule in this world, baby: don't pay any attention to anything you see in the news.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

  • The Revolution Will Not Be Televised ;

First rule in this world, baby: don't pay any attention to anything you see in the news.

  • Thanks Kanye...this is ill. Hehwah.

  • found this through Kanye too... It is the best part of the song especially with the music.

  • I was going to comment on that racist comment but...ignorance must be ignored...all I have to say is "forgive them Father fore they know not what they do"

anyway I agree the Rapist called Freedom=Freedoom

  • As much as I love kanye, I'm pissed I'm not deep enough to find something like this on my own, cuz this is the best part of Lost in The World

  • found this because of Kanye West's Lost in the World. The song has a shorter version though, but equally as powerful.

  • can somebody break this down for me, his thought process left me confused

  • @dhar010 Somewhat understood the first part its about the crime committed by America against Africa, SLAVERY. The second part is about the "Hippie Movement" where white hippies thought it "cool" or "down" to be apart of the "black man's revolution." Problem was that blacks HAD to revolutionize for a better life "a good home, wife and kids" but the hippie could go back to his normal life and be guaranteed opprtunities not presented to the black man "clear conscience and a college degree."

  • like this if you found this from Lost In The World :)

  • This song is going to get a lot more plays when everyone finds out Kanye sampled it.

  • @RaynMan718 Tru thats how i found it

  • @RaynMan718 which is bullshit

  • @DenOfVipers Why is that?

  • @RaynMan718 This is the only way people hear old shit these days. Some ignorant fucking looney tune has to expose them.

  • @DenOfVipers Well isn't that a good thing because without Kanye most people wouldn't be listening to this. Why are you opposed to sampling?

  • @RaynMan718 No, I'm not opposed to sampling, or to people hearing music they haven't before. I'm against the idea that they will only hear it because Kanye used it.

  • @DenOfVipers That's ridiculous, It shouldn't make a difference who sampled it.

  • @DenOfVipers

you mad as hell bruh. it's the same message, why does it matter how people hear it?

  • @RaynMan718 not the first time ye sampled him

  • Comment removed

  • @LogicThEncrypter What other song did Kanye sample him on?

  • @RaynMan718 "Home Is Where The Heart Is" from The Late Registration" CD.

  • @RaynMan718 ye sadly people can respect it now its used by a popular artist or otherwise it would never be on tv/radio.

But i still belive in nothing can touch the original so a sons with samples or a remix can never touch a original cause the remix would never be there without it.

  • Found through Kanye *

  • i found this through Kanye

  • @buccub Ditto

  • @buccub that's why I came here!!!!!!!!!

sample of this appears in Lost In The World

    really nice!

though I don't even know him

somehow I'm now trying to know more about him

    haha!

  • @buccub LOL me 2

  • Absolutely fanatastic. Clear concise and to the point. We need more of this and less of what we crap we are listening to today.

  • BLESS
