so if i wanna use fl studio in Ubuntu linux its just download the regular fl studio and it will work in linux=? or i need a specific version of fl that can run in linux? would be thankfull for answer!
Yes, most of FL studio will work in Linux but there is very little support for VSTi's, also I found it really laggy when using more than 5/6 generators. May as well use windows for now I'm afraid
@randomsrvapps If you are giving out medals for common sense, sure... I'll take one. Only if it's open source though. Wouldn't want to actually pay for anything.
@PhysiPhile Absolutely. That was one of the things I loved about Linux, having streamlined kernels to do specific tasks. There are too many hindrances though. Like, Jack and incapable software.
@PhysiPhile Also why the guy in this video is so god damn ecstatic about getting FL Studio to run in Wine on Linux. Who the hell would go that far if the software that is used on Linux was better?
@mlopinto2k1 Milk drop 2? The Visualization stuff? All I care about is audio. My linux box designed to be a synthesizer for all my midi divices and recording, looping, all that stuff. I can even get FL studio in there now. And it's all free. Tell me what I am missing out on by using a linux DAW?
@PhysiPhile I'm not here to argue with you. I'm here to prove a point. How about this, PLEASE record a video of you making some music with the software you use and show ME what I am missing out on?
@PhysiPhile I have used Linux for months, completely believing I had found the golden key to computers and making music. I even sacrificed my extreme desire for cutting edge gaming. All fantasy.
@mlopinto2k1 have you used AV linux? that's all that I've been using. The programs are guitarix, ramarack(sp?), sooperlooper, and ofcourse JACK. I also throw hydrogen drum machine in too sometimes. I use that in combo with fruity loops for the ipad - which I bought a guitar to midi iphone controller at walmart. I can video it but if you know those programs then you know what I'm talking about. Right now I downloading ubuntu studio 10.something
@PhysiPhile I admire your desire to use this software. But, when I use FL Studio, everything I need is RIGHT THERE. No patching, no linking, no external recording... nothing. It's all right there.
@mlopinto2k1 Oh I see. Yeah we have it for different purposes. See my buddies come over and we jam on our guitars so do you know if I can run a guitar through FL studio and get all the effects with no latency issues with using non-ALSA?
@PhysiPhile Through Wine on Linux? I have no idea. But through Win7, absolutely. Native Instruments Guitar Rig is seriously bad ass and designed just for this purpose. Low latency and every effect.
@mlopinto2k1 Hey I checked out the guitar rig software and it's pretty sweet - windows is definitely surprising me. But do you know if there is a program like JACK (in linux) for windows so I can easily daisy chain inputs/outputs of different programs?
@PhysiPhile Just so I'm clear, FL Studio does everything internal. Records external audio, has it's own audio file editor, midi recording (which kicks ass) and multicore support.
@PhysiPhile dubdubdub dot reaper dot fm <--- another awesome piece of multitrack software. It's 4MB's and load instantly. There's just so many damn options. It's endless.
Ok... I again... installed FLStudio with wine, and working fine :)... the only drawback I suffered is with the Waves plug-ins as it cannot link the Waves plug-ins folder (I'll look wether DirectX 9 native installation helps with DXi support)... I'll try to find any solution, but seems straightforward to use FLStudio with Linux :)
@Brainsformed I used a few VSTi plugins on linux but one of them just would not work which is called hydra but that was because I did not have the depending software (microsoft stuff) installed, if you can get the dependencies then it should work, unfortunately chances are it will not notify you that the dependency is missing just that it did not install or it will not execute.
I'm glad that you managed to install FL Studio on Linux and I am very happy for you.
It looks very interesting as I'm music producer & software developer, but never tried to make work my FLStudio on my Linux installation (using Windows 7 yet)... May it be possible to run even your VST plugins? did you try it with any VSTi?.... I ask that as I use several plugins (iZotope, Waves, etc)... (anyway I'll try to install it)
