Because. I dont know why they actually chose to, but there are a couple reasons why that's good.

It frees up cap space in 2 years. There are a number of bigname players who have contracts ending at the same time, and so with an extra 30 mil, you can pursue them.

He's got attitude problems, and the Blazers are trying to erase their players with bad attitudes.

And some argue he's washed up, and doesn't fit with the style of play.
