  • My brother keeps hounding me to spend 500 on a refurb MacBook unibody with pretty much the same specks I found a 630 for 200 with a six month warranty from dell what do you think I should get? Is a MacBook better even though the dell has pretty much the same specks besides the os of course .thx for the help

  • @lawnboyinthehood1980 well I have had this laptop (D630) for about a year now and have had no problems. I would probably go with the D630 because its very reliable and the 6 month warranty your lucky to get. Dell normally doesn't do that. If you really want to, you can install Mac OS X on the D630, there are many tutorials on how to do it here on Youtube. I myself took the VMware root, and installed OS X in a virtual machine. My main OS, as seen in this video, is Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • Is the lid metal?

  • Is the case on this metal like the d830?

  • @lawnboyinthehood1980 metal and plastic

  • i have that computer they dont come with webcam

  • @smlfreak I never said it did....

  • will this work for recording music?

  • @ridarecords Yes and no. I would recommend getting an external USB microphone for recording music. The built in mic will work but it isn't amazing quality if you know what I mean.

  • not a gamming laptop!? i play world of warcraft on mine all the time

  • @AngelSepiroth The Latitude D820 Is more of a gaming laptop. It has multi speakers and a bigger screen.

  • @AngelSepiroth I agree with TheiPodBooklet, if you have a D630 with the Nvidia Quadro graphics I wouldn't gaming on it because if that card burns up like they tend to do when you game with it, that can be a pain to fix/replace. If you have the Intel like me, your fine. I play Minecraft on low all the time. :)

  • Lol I got same laptop and same config except I got a webcam in mine and I got a gaming desktop too, they make a great pair

  • hey i have the same dell with windows 7 too

  • not trying to rub it in just want to make people aware that if you are bidding on ebay you can get this laptop under $200 from Dell Direct. I just got one for $170 Windows xp 2.2ghz DC 2GB Ram 80gb. Just dont be in a hurry you will get the laptop under $200 and free shipping easy.

  • @crazyfuck13 I no wat u mean. I should have waited :/

  • does this computer come with a camera? plz reply!!

  • @RCplanescarsetc nope, sorry i doesn't. it has a microphone though. webcams r cheap these days, so u can get one for around $15-$30

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X ok thanks!

  • @RCplanescarsetc

No, The Dell Latitude D630 does not have a camera.

  • My university is selling these for 100 each. I bought 8.

  • @superherosatlive Nice. What are you going to do with 8 laptops? lol

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X I gave some of them to my family members hahah

  • I got mine for $240! ( eBay )

It should be coming Monday - Wednesday

    So excited :D

  • @classicGAMING789 Nice! Windows XP or Vista?

  • I reccomend you upgrade to 4gb or wait till it's a bit cheaper and update to the max of 8gb

  • @itouchhacker241 ya i decided 4gb is more then enough. its not worth it to upgrade any higher.

  • i think your new macbook pro will last longer than this dinosaur. i'm just point out that these days you can get a very powerful portable laptop that serve multi purpose from everyday productivity to HD style entertainment to your HD TV for dirt cheap price. I know cause I got a $300 that does everything. Unfortunately, if u are not techie savvy, you can end up buying a lemon not even aware of it.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM I no wat u mean. I knew wat I was getting into. I only needed it for 1 to 2 years. believe it or not, this thing is pretty fast for being 4 years old. And being that it can support 8gb of RAM proves that this thing is not outdated just yet. I also wanted to get this specific laptop for Hackintosh capabilities. And its too bad they rose the price back up to $400 for ur laptop. When I was buying this netbooks only had a single core processor (needed dual) and my budget was under $300

  • you can get a 12" asus 1215b with up to date specs , hdmi out, usb 3.0 for $300 with an amd fusion chip that can handle everyday task, 3d games and doesn't look like a dinosaur.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM I'll stick with my "dinosaur" till it dies. Im getting a MacBook Pro soon anyway

  • does this support java and flashplayer?

  • @23caponed Yes its not that outdated!

  • can this run ava?

  • @1freddyA1 wats ava?

  • how are the intel graphics? hd video?

  • @bistwo47 I haven't had any problems with the Intel graphics. It can do HD video. built in display is 1280 x 800, but it can do 1600x900 seamlessly on a connected display. I'm not sure about 1080p, since my monitor only supports up to 1600x900. This laptop DOES NOT have an HDMI port.

  • how would I go about adding the faster wifi to this laptop?

  • @bistwo47 support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd630/en/SM_EN/minicard.htm#wp1084976

  • Did this model come before or after the D620? I am not sure. I'm deciding between a D620 and a D630. I need to know the difference.

  • @madblk75 The D630 came after the D620. The main differences that I know of i are the D630 supports 8gb of RAM while the D620 only supports 4gb, and the D630 has better processors and graphics. other than that, they r actually the same. I would go with a D630.

  • Lucky, I have tge d600 lol

  • I just got one of these (used, battery is shit and I just disposed of it; have to buy a new one and maybe a couple other things). I have no intent to do any gaming (got a Core i5 machine for that stuff) but what about media? I do enjoy the occasional video. The resolution is capable of 720p video but is it recommended with that graphics chipset or does it choke and desync on you?

  • @HinataChan30 If u have the Intel Graphics chipset, like me, u should be fine. Install the latest drivers and don't expect Blu-ray quality from this laptop. If u have the nvidia chipset, be warned, it has a history of coking itself. As far as desyncing, I have had no problems. Oh, and I hope u use headphones, because the built-in speakers r crap.

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X Where did you find your Bluetooth and/or wireless N card? I keep googling them and I can't find one. All I find are drivers and updates for them.

  • @AccidentalMisfire09 I got my Bluetooth card from a dead Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop so im srry, i can't help u there. I got the wifi card from amazon.com. Just search for "intel wifi link 5300". tht is the updated version of the card i got.

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X Thanks! :D Found an old school laptop with a bluetooth card that still worked. Popped it in, and connected my Headset to it. Thanks again! :D

  • @AccidentalMisfire09 ur welcome! u would be amazed of all the stuff schools throw out tht still have working parts in them. Its to bad my school recycles their old computers -_-

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X They actually recycle them? Our school just takes the shells (we mainly have desktops), sell the already dirt-cheap parts for even less (80GB HDD= $25), and puts brand new equipment inside. There's one computer (shell) in the entire school that has been there in that same spot since the school opened as a High School back in 1984. Yeah, I wasn't even thought of, and my parents didn't know each other existed. Oh, and that shell has a Core i5 in it.

  • @AccidentalMisfire09 ya my high school recycles there computers. They buy crappy Dells and keep them untill they die or get EXTREMELY slow. They get the slim Optiplex series. The oldest ones r Pentium 4 @ 2.80ghz and the newest ones r Core 2 Duo @ 2.40ghz the P4's only have 512mb of RAM while the Core 2 Duo's have 1gb of RAM. HDD space doesn't matter because everything is stored on the main server. They just switched all the laptops over from Latitude D520s to Inspiron Mini 10s. All PCs run XP.

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X Dang. I just asked my friend who works for the tech dept and he said every computer has 2GB DDR RAM. The slowest clocked CPU is a 1.8 quad AMD, but those are for the teachers. You're lucky. The Optiplex series are actually really nice towers. We get HP Compaq's, Dell Latitude D630's, and HP Compaq nx7400 series. They're all alright, but the server bogs down the computer so much. We run a simplified version on Windows XP, set to only use the Windows Classic theme, in x64-bit.

  • @AccidentalMisfire09 My school only uses the classic theme as well. This is because of the way windows Server 2003 works. The server runs Windows Server 2003 x64 and the computers run XP Professional x32 with Service pack 3. The Art wing uses Power Macs. All in all, if the network speed wasn't so slow, (some days 1mbps, others 100mbps) it would be a great system. The server rooms in my school is amazing! The server processors are Intel Xeon @2.80 gHz.

  • I'm feeling abit chuffed I got such a good spec Dell D630 in comparison to yours. Mine is T7800 @2.60GHz 1440X900 with Navidia video card. Can't wait to get all the bits to make it fully working again.

  • @voon100 is the processor in the D630 upgradable? I was planning on upgrading it in the future. And I didnt want one with the Nvidia Quadro Graphics because i heard they tend to have problems. I got this laptop for school so gaming wouldn't be an issue. I have a desktop and xbox 360 for tht. Good luck fixing urs!

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X I'm not too sure if the processor is upgradable. I'm guessing when you buy from Dell you can order whatever spec suits your pocket. So it's really lucky of me to bought one with such a high spec.

Regarding Nvidia Graphics card, you might be right about them having problems because I have experience this with my other Dell D630 which has display fault. Fingers cross mine doesn't mess up.

  • @voon100 how much RAM did yours come with? Mine only came with 2GB. Did you buy yours new and it recently messed up? Or did you buy your used like me?

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X I bought mine used but in extremely good condition. It came basically bare, without DVD drive, Hard disc and RAM. I'm slowing sourcing the parts for it. Having said that the infamous Nvidia fault starts to resurface again. Perhaps it is in such a such a good condition due to early failure of the graphics card the company had to throw it away.

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X I put 2Gb of RAM in the laptop it runs very fast. I'm really gutted now the graphic card fault starting to re-appear. I might attempt to salvage it by reballing it.

  • @voon100 I looked into it, and yes, the processor is replaceable. if worst comes to worst, buy a motherboard with the intel graphics and put the T7800 in there. The nvidia graphics maybe ten times better, but at least you will have a working, fast, and responsive system. I was going to upgrade the processor in mine, but after i saw the price it would cost, its not worth it.

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X Yeah, I found out the processor is replaceable when I took the laptop apart in attempt to re-ball the Nvidia graphics chip by following the instruction from this video 'How to (temporary) fix Nvidia 8600m gs graphic card'. It works but the problem reoccurs after a day or so. I'm giving it another attempt.

  • I bought two Dell D630 blindly for a bargain price of $15 without HD, memory, charger and DVD drive. Got home, put it to the test, found out both powers up but one had video display fault and one with a high spec works dandy. I'm keeping one as an upgrade to my Acer Aspire.

  • @voon100 wow, $15? that's insane! I bought mine refurbished from dell because i didn't want to go through any trouble and i needed it right away for school.

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X Well, I was fortunate the person selling it was lumbled with a joblot laptops she bought from a carboot sale and didn't know what to do with it.

  • @voon100 Get a room, fellas.

  • Just got this used on craigslist recently, I was looking specifically for this laptop becasue the thing is just super durable, still a great machine.

  • @raddreamer3kx I know! this thing is really fast for only a dual core processor and it boots faster than my quad-core desktop! I wouldn't edit videos on it tho, because it would burn up the graphics card.

  • I am thinking of getting this laptop, as a replacement for my old HP laptop that recently decided not to work anymore.... I have seen these refurbished on ebay.. How easy is was it to get windows 7 drivers for it?

  • @kd84afc Windows 7 auto-installs the drivers. U don't have to worry about a thing!

  • i got a d630 t7700 4mb cache centrino duel 2.4 ghz nvidia 256 i upgraded the dvd combo came with no hhd but had one and came with a built in 3g modem in it gsm compatible 200 bucks off ebay!

if you want the seller let me know

  • @skyhawk470 can u give me the link to the DVD combo drive u purchased for ur D630? mine only has CD-RW and I would like a DVD-RW drive

  • full MegaBITs per second. if wireless could transfer at megaBYTES.. I'd be in love.

  • @junkyard12320 thx 4 the heads up! I'll remember tht 4 next time!

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X)

can you give me the ebay link ofthe seller???

  • @07moodiya I sent u a mssg w/ the link.

  • d360s have a max of 4 gb ram

    I have a few of them :P

  • @skyhawk470 if u update the BIOS to A17 it supports 8gb of RAM. It says on Crucial and on Dell's Website.

  • @skyhawk470 I dont plan on getting more than 4gbs anyway. 8gb is too expensive!

  • d360s have a max of 4 gb ram

  • How do u upgrade ram on this computer???

  • @olsonknight one of the RAM slots is located under a door under the laptop by the battery. It has ur Windows license key sticker on it. The other slot is located under the keyboard so ur gonna have to take the laptop apart to get to it. Here is the link to the guide to install the RAM. support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd630/en/SM_EN/memory.htm#wp1084976

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X - thanks! it really helped i just ordered this computer today!!

  • @olsonknight ur welcome! how much ram u thinking about putting in it?

  • @MLGProXBuddy175X from 2 gb to 4 gb =]

  • How much was that laptop, when you got it?

  • @CountSidius i got it for $280 USD. I bid on this laptop. I replaced the wifi card because the one it came with didnt support Wireless N 5ghz(300mbs). I was only getting 54mbs before i replaced the wifi card.

  • 300MBPS!!!!!! IM LUCKY IF I CAN GET 1MBPS IN MY HOUSE!!!!!!

  • How much that harddrive cost

  • @MrFliboii98 I paid $119 but i'm sure u can find it for cheaper now
