Great improvement over previous models,but US Ordnance should have chambered it in 6MM Optimum cartridge,which Stan Crist wrote about several years ago.

M60E4 is a vast improvement,but US Ordnance should have chambered it to the 6MM Optimum round. Stan Crist wrote about this cartridge some years ago and I think he had the correct view about the superior capability over the 7.62 round. Also, it is the round for assault rifle, MG-like the 60E4, SAW, M240 and sniper rifle.A truely unifying cartridge.Plus you cannot ignore the logistics of having only one cartridge.

I prefer the SS77. Superior. 1200 rnd belt fired in under 3 minutes and barrel still good. Then tested out to 1000 meters. Then put on a tripod and used with a mortar sight to make a beaten zone at 2500 meters. The M60 i had with me failed the belt pull test. Also the barrel severely drooped after 1500 plus rounds of sustained fire.

Watch my video of the M60 E4 test....brutal, few MGs could match it let along surpass it. The old M60 was marginal but the latest iterations are superb weapons.

Yes and no, Belt fed MGs are area weapons designed to lay lead to cover an area, not as a pinpoint weapon. Tripods come into play when you get BIG MGs or you have a staic defense and have your "beaten zone" staked out to coincide with other MGs or defense weapons.

This is the real deal best LMG period.

For dismounted work it should replace FN MAG58/M240B/G it is lighter,shorter and modular.

Sorry but the MK-48 is far superior. The M60's leaf spring that holds the trigger group together is known for getting weak and falling off, then everything falls apart inside the reciever. Plus its a very ass heavy weapon system and is not well balanced at all, makes it a bitch to carry. The buffer assembly never works right and causes short stroking if its got water or any fouling in it.

Agreed the 240 rocks for static defense or vehicle mounts. The E4 Pig is the bomb for mobile OPS though....
