If your so easily offended by someone posting how they felt about getting the mane pulled, your life must really suck for you to sit on your computer and troll. Really, you're being a drama queen. People will treat you nicer if you didn't attack someone like that. There are much better ways of getting your opinion across.

  • Fucking idiot if it wouldnt hurt the horse wouldnt flinch. I'd like to see you get your hair pulled and if it hurts you then it shure as hell hurts the horse!!!!!!

  • u shouldnt be doing anything with the forlock its there personal fly vail

  • Personally I think pulled manes are ugly. Sure they look a little tidier but natural manes are the best. Ive never cut, pulled, or ever did any of that stuff to my horse's manes and they are beautiful. My oldest horse has a tail that nearly touches the ground and a beautiful mane longer than her neck. Maybe it dosent hurt them, but it dosent look too comfertable, in my own opinion, or maybe it's because I'm a western rider.

  • I Love Neatly Pulled Manes, I Dont Think Its Painfull Just More Irritating For Them For It To Be Pulled This Traditional Way, A Bit Like A Fly On Them, Personally I Use A Solo Comb, Much More Comfortable For Them ( Plus He Wouldn't Be Figiting If It Wasn't Irritating Him) :)

  • @countrybabe561 I'm an equine degree student, and I have to tell you that you are very wrong, horses have very few and very un-receptive nerve endings in their crest, and can not feel pain from brushing/ pulling a horses mane. I also think that it is very narrow-minded of you to call english riders 'cruel horse people', do your research.

  • @FlissSaysHello Everyone is a equine degree student on youtube. I don't care if you think i'm narrow minded. I really don't give a fuck.

  • THIS DOES HURT THE HORSE ACTUALLY! Why don't you you grab 30 long hairs on ur head and jerk them out at once? Let their manes grow naturally. These short "well pulled" manes look ugly as ass. Long natural manes are gorgeous and fair for the horse for fly protection. English riders are among the most cruel horse people. Western people think about the horse's feelings first before anything.

  • @countrybabe561 1. Someone has already replied to your comment.

    2. I think ass looks just wonderful, don't you?

  • @scoobyrds Dick.

  • @countrybabe561 Western people pull their manes to. Every heard of a little event called western pleasure?

  • @IRaceBarrels Yup, I ride in western pleasure, barrels, poles, roping, etc. And I don't do it and I've made nationals.

  • @countrybabe561 im a western rider and even i find your comment offensive. clearly you dont know much about the horse's anatomy cuz it DOES NOT hurt them when you pull on their manes. and manes dont offer that much protection anyways from the flies, it only offers protection from one side and can get extremely hot during the summer. try to be a liitle less arrogant next time you post something and actually KNOW what youre talking about.

  • @lyss108 You know what?! I'm sick of you people! Go finger yourself or whatever you bitches do to keep yourself happy. I don't care what you think! I didn't ask for your damn opinion. You should learn not to share your opinion on someones comment unless its asked for! That will get you a lot farther in life. FUCK OFF!

  • @countrybabe561 well then you shouldnt put your comment on your opinion about english riders when it wasnt asked for.

  • @lyss108 I said my opinion on a video just like a gossip circle says their opinion on whatever the hell they talk about. YOU don't need to comment on my opinion. You post your own damn opinion and leave people the hell alone!!!

  • @countrybabe561 calm down you're only embarrassing yourself.

  • @countrybabe561 Right back at you, honey. Don't post if you know you're going to start an argument.

  • this is a video about mane pulling, so why are people going on about horse cruelty and bits? first off all, mane pulling doesnt hurt the horse at all, they can't feel it, and bits arnt cruel- its the person on the end of the bit that can be cruel. if you are light handed then the horse will respond and work well with you, but if you are heavy handed and pull on their mouths, thats when it gets cruel.

  • OMG!!!Would everyone just shut the hell up!!!it doesnt hurt the horse!!they have no nerve in their mane.Any1 who says that it hurts them is a fuking retard and i suppose plating with a needle is cruel too??there are waaaay crueler things u can do to a horse then pulling their manes.

  • If none of you idiots can tell that this makes the horse, at the very least uncomfortable, then get off the internet.

  • For anyone who says that this doesn't hurt at all, I don't think that's totally true. You can clearly see from the video that the horse is finding it uncomfortable as she pulls. I'm not saying it's cruel, but it is of course uncomfortable.

  • This is not cruel at all! They actuslly are making these new kinds of pulling combs where you cut the mane at the top and don't pull it but either way there not painful at all!

  • Stop saying it's cruel it's not

  • @cosychimp you must not do much with your horses them. i don't know any judge that would like to see a horse's mane unpulled. "just not nice" ppppp it's just a horsey hair cut. my horses actually enjoys this. he drops his head really low, licks his lips, and falls asleep. they just love the attention.

  • seriously?? this is not "cruel". as a horse owner, i do everything i can to make my horses as comfortable as possible. they eat before i do, they are cared for before myself. that's the horse world. if this was "cruel" people wouldn't do this to their most prized possesions. there are barely ANY nerve endings in the horse's neck WHERE the mane grows. soooo stfu.:)

  • Wow some people are so stupid saying that is just cruel, i would never put my horse through that etc... well if you read any book or you look it up on the internet horse don't feel any pain all they they just feel some pressure

  • You people are fucking idiots. If it could in anyway hurt the horse we wouldn't do it and I'm pretty sure the horse would be freaking out way more if it hurt him. It's not cruel and it's not painful. Fucking dumb asses. If done correctly it feels the same as some one pulling the skin on your elbow. which you can't feel other than the pressure.

  • @JudgementsxReject We use bits. Those hurt horses. So your point is completely moot.

  • @impyness Bits used incorrectly hurt horses. Bits used correctly is just pressure. Bits are actually designed to massage the gums of the horse and release endorphins in the brain. Once again if they hurt the horses, they would freak out. Trust me, horses will not take pain. Do a little research.

  • @JudgementsxReject And pulling on hair still hurts. Whether you like it or not. A well trained horse will let you do whatever you ask him to do including sit through pain. Bits are supposed to be used for communication, not just pressure. And a good rider will never have to rely on a bit. Trust me, a horse will take pain even if it hurts and whether you like to admit it or not, there are nerve endings in their neck.

  • @impyness You don't know what you're talking about, please do some research. They have very few nerve endings where there mane is located. And a well trained horse will not sit through pain. Take a horse that is in the Quater Horse Congress and then let it get stung by a bee. You think its gonna keep going and ignore the pain? No the horse is gonna freak out. Horses are animals, they don't take pain well at all.

  • @JudgementsxReject Also, horses grow their mane for a reason. To defend the neck. Why would you take away their defense system for a person's own pleasure? Don't people even enjoy horses for what they are anymore instead of what little crappy ribbons they can get with them?

  • @impyness but when people pull their manes we use fly spray and sheets and other methods to protect the horse from whatever might irritate their skin. There are some people who are into horses from the money, how very little there is in the industry, I won't disagree with you there. Then there are people like me, who love horses and like to show to show off the horse and how well the horse and I work together. That's what shows were created for. To show the bond between horse and rider.

  • Cruel.

  • @impyness Horses actually have very few nerves at the crest of thier neck where the mane lays. It dosent hurt them when it gets pulled out in the field. Take on piece of your hair and pull it (not out) then take a handfull and pull it. The single hurts worse right? We are taking a good amount. It dosent hurt because they have few nevers. We have many. Dont speak until you have all the facts.

  • @Diabetessurvivor Do me a favor and pull on your hair. Do you enjoy it? No. What makes you think they would? Plus then it looks retarded and frizzy. Nice fashion sense. Plait the mane. Looks better, doesn't take away their natural defense for their neck, and its easier.

  • @impyness If the mane is too thick, you can't plait it correctly. You aren't taking away all the hair when you pull it. It hurts to us because we have lots of nerve endings in our skin and head. They have VERY few. Therefore, you cannot compare our hair to their's. We are two completely different types of animals.

  • i would NEVER do this to my horse , it is just not nice even if it doesn't hurt.

  • @cosychimp Your horse's mane must be in a terrible state then?

  • @CatrionaXxTilona Just because she refuses to yank out her horse's hair doesn't mean its necessarily in bad shape. My horses NATURAL mane is in better shape and is less dull and frizzy than any pulled mane I've EVER seen.

  • @impyness My horse's mane gets pulled every so often and when it does it's as straight as anything! It even looks like I have straightened it myself!

  • They do feel it, that's why you do it after exercise, because then the pores are open and the hair comes out easier.

  • @MusicXOXOPiano they only feel the tugging they have no nerve endings in that area so if hair gets pulled out by the root it doesnt hurt as if to say if our hair was pulled out haha it would deffinitley hurt us!

  • @ilovepreciousjim2 they have plenty of nerve endings in their neck ;)

  • @MusicXOXOPiano maybe in there"neck"but not in the crest where there mane grows from

  • i alwayswondered if it hurt them to pull it but obviously it doesnt as ive read. but i think that the horse moves his neck and stuff out of the fact that she like pulls down so quick and that moves the neck ha or something idk..but im sure it doesnt hut them cause my paints get into thistle bushes and get like 50 in there mane and i have to comb and pull them out and they dont care one single big about there hair being pulled out..

  • just a question why do people do this? is it good for shows or like horses health? im confuzed

  • @Thelovemybreyers its neater and easier for plaiting.

  • @blyng105 oh ok thanks :)

  • @kab1972- horses cant feel

it when you're pulling their mane

  • @kab1973- horses cant feel it when your pulling their manes, they dont have nerves there

  • I refuse to put my horse through that torture for vanity when there are other ways to accomplish it that doesn't inflict pain.

  • @kab1972 did you actually just say that? LOL

  • @Xemmareynolds Yes, LOL hahaha, I really did just say that. Can you feel it when someone grabs a handful of your hair and pulls it? Yes, you can. So, pulling the hair out of manes hurts, or at the VERY least, is unpleasant and I love my horse too much to put him through that when thinning shears does the same thing.

  • @kab1972 hahahahahahaha. they have no nerves in their mane. read any horse book and it will tell you that. you love your horse too much too put him through that pain? oh my, funniest thing i've heard. go read up on some basic horse knowledge :)

  • @Xemmareynolds Wouldn't you feel it if someone pulled hair off your head? Of course, you would. Would it not hurt? Of course, it would hurt. Glad you think you're such an expert, but maybe YOU should be the one reading up on "basic horse knowledge." Or, better yet, read up on "the horses' nervous system." Maybe you'll LEARN something.

  • I can't see the point of pulling a mane to get a neat appearance when thinning shears will give the same result without the pain. This horse is clearly reacting in a negative way because he CAN FEEL THE PAIN. I don't care how fast or how slow one pulls out the strands of hair, it will hurt. It is connected to flesh, which has nerves in it, therefore, the horse will feel pain.

  • thanks for posting this! i have heard of so many ways to do it. my horse has a really thin mane so i usually just cut it but i will use the comb next time and trim it like she did at the bottom

  • thanks for posting this! i have heard of so many ways to do it. my horse has a really thin mane so i usually just cut it but i will use the comb next time and trim it like she did at the bottom

  • grrr some horses are "naughty" when it comes to pulling grrr how would she like her hair pulled out

just hog it instead of putting the horse through all this

like if you agree that to many people call horses Naughty

  • grrr some horses are "naughty" when it comes to pulling grrr how would sh elike her hair pulled out

like if you agree that to many people call horses Naughty

  • i dont understand this pulling at all. why is this so important please explane someone. thanks.

  • @martinaNANANA To keep the mane neat, tidy and manageable. It's easier to plait a shorter mane too.

  • Um excuse me, "show jumpers cut it straight across which looks quite ugly?!" I don't think so. I know very well that they don't have nerve endings on their hair follicles like humans or dogs, but literally ripping their hair out every 2 weeks will greatly destroy the mane. We clip because it keeps thickness, and looks much cleaner. If your pleating it, it shouldn't matter if it's cut straight across anyways. Watch your word choice, because you sound horribly arrogant.

  • @XoxCrimsonLovexoX i don't think she was trying to be rude but she knows what the judges are looking for a lot of times judges won't pick you over someone else because the way the mane is its suppose to look natural and when you cut it straight across it looks like someone, cut it but when you pull it it doenst have that straight edge look or "dutch-boy" that judges dont like i know you dont care what i have to say but like you i feel i have to state my opinion:)

  • I have horses that don't mind at all and others that are very sensitive about it. One huge hint I gleaned from Lynn Palm, if your horse is difficult about it... do everything the same, EXCEPT, don't take too much at one time AND pull slowly and steadily on the hair you grab. You will feel the individual hairs popping out of their follicles one at a time. Takes more time, BUT, I can often pull a horse's mane without them even being tied up with this technique. Try it, you'll like it!

  • if u look up a sensory diagram of a horse there is barely any feeling where there mane is

  • believe it or not, horses can't actually fell the hair being pulled, all they can feel is you tugging back and forth on their neck.

  • believe it or not, horses can't actually fell the hair being pulled, all they can fell is you tugging back and forth on their neck.

  • The horse wasn't twitched in this video :S its acting calmly and Kitty knows what she's doing she wouldnt be filmed pulling her horse's mane if she didnt so people should just calm down !

  • Ok, ok, settle down children. No more pointing fingers. The horse in this video is not in pain. He is clearly shaking his head, but that doesn't mean it hurts. If you'll notice, he is curious of the camera, and trying to get a good look at it. This appears to be a high level horse, and those types of horses are often fidgety, especially when there are people around talking and filming him.

Also, horse631- she does seem to be pulling out rather large chunks- but that takes tons of practice.

  • guys it doesnt hurt the horse...I pull my horses mane, and he doesnt move at all! if it hurt he would probly move around alot and try and bite or kick...so calm down!

  • i no this isn't u but whoever this lady is she should realize that that horse is in pain not only because of the twitching but because of how far his ears are pinned back it kills me how far people will go for a silly ribbon thats not what riding is about its about the joy, freedom, and the bond that horse and rider share!

  • ...so...um...you pull the under part of the mane?

  • my horse has a lovely wavy mane but pullin it is th only way i can actually keep it groomed... if u pull th section rly quickly, it doesnt hurt th horse as much... its like a person waxing their legs for example...

  • She pulls out fairly big sections of hair with each pull--does anyone else pull so much at once? I have no objections to pulling manes, as it is not painful, I've just never attempted such thick sections with each pull. And this girl is much faster than me...is this common? Thanks.

  • @horse631 I pulled my pony's mane the other day and when I pulled rather a thick bit, it pulled her neck over and I didn't want to hurt her, so I pulled it little bit by little bit.

  • FOR PEOPLE!!!! THIS ISNT ME , I just got the video of the net ..

  • @HoofHearted101 I was replying to that saraspiller shit not you idiot!

  • Well, there's a pattern. Every time she pulls hairs out he shakes his head. Means he feels it, whether it's painful or itches him or if it's like a funny bone feeling. Whatever, it's unfair when the human doesn't recognize that. I don't agree with this, but if you're going to do that to a horse, be aware that he does feel it in some way. Just speakin' in general here.

  • i dont mean to be rude but why in the hell dont you just cut it.....

  • This does NOT hurt a horse. They do not have nerve endings at their roots. Whether you keep the mane long or short is personal preference. But it's typically done for showing standards. When you compete in rated shows your horse HAS to be well groomed, manes soft, full, and short (for english) and sometimes braided or put in buttons. For western you can do longer manes with running braids or other styles. Do your research before make an accusation like that.

  • i dont really get the point of this! my horse hase a really full mane and its a long mane too. i will never do this to my horse. this is stupid. why not just do a running braid? in my personal opinion horses with pulled manes look stupid.

  • ok you have your own views on whats right or not, but mane pulling doesn't hurt them, and you should really understand that this is how people want their horses mane, which is fine because it doesnt hurt! so you shouldn't really make judgements before you know the facts! the horse isnt stressed that its hurting, its just fidgety and standing still a lot, like ANY horse gets fidgety if its bored and standing aroundd! so dont comment if you don't know the facts!

  • If you personally do not want to pull your horse's mane, don't pull it. Please stand up for the malnourished, abused horses. Not the horses in a beautifully manicured barn, in excellent weight, groomed to perfection, who are twitching slightly in the video. Yes abuse happens in even the best barns, but it is a FACT that horses do not have nerve endings at the root of the hair. You can read this in veterinary books, grooming books, and equine magazines. Please educate yourselves before accusing.

  • @no1horselover r u saying it to me ???? for the love of god .. this isnt me or my horse , heck this video isnt even taking in my country ... i just put the video up ... calm the fuck down people

  • @no1horselover thank you for understanding what i am trying to explain here... the horse isnt pulling away for no reason it obviously hurts the poor animal

  • @melissalisa123 thanks, its good to know their are other people smart enough to work out that ripping out your hair (especially in chunks) is going to bloody hurt.

I remember watching a video about how to mount a horse bare back...

  • cont.. and in the video the girl swung up onto the horses back whilst gripping the mane. The amount of comments people sent in saying what a bitch she was for pulling the horse's mane. Yet they find this okay!! go figure!!

  • @no1horselover but atleast when you use the mane to swing on you dont pull out big chunks of hair

  • @melissalisa123 yeah I know, thats what I couldnt believe that they find ripping out the horses hair okay yet tugging on it for a second to mount a horse they find regard as animal cruelty!!! People are bloody insane.

  • @no1horselover dude! horses don't have feeling there! it doesn't fucking hurt him! he's probably just freaking out because he knows what happening! it doesn't hurt 'im!

  • @Annathesurfer alright if youre so smart go up to your horse and stick a pin in where the mane is. You'll see then that they have nerve endings there. If a fly lands on a horses mane it twitches which shows they can feel it.

  • @no1horselover Actually, horses don't have any feeling in their manes, so it doesn't hurt them. You can see them tossing their heads a bit because of the pressure of the pull, but there isn't any actual pain. And just like any horse, they don't like to stand still and so they're figgity, that's normal.

  • @no1horselover it doesnt hurt the horse i pulled my horses mane today. she was falling asleep. it doesnt hurt!

  • @no1horselover Read Kimsey's comment. This would hurt if you were pulling their tail because a horse has a bone in their tail which enables then to move it. Kimsey points out that horses do not have nerve endings at their roots.

  • @no1horselover um....no. ever read a book in your stupid life? any vet book can tell you that there are NO NERVE ENDINGS IN THE ROOT OF A HORSE'S HAIR. and in regards to you telling someone about sticking a pin where the mane is, that's so fucking stupid. plus, if a fly lands ON a horse's mane, it doesn't twitch, but if it lands on the skin it does. wow, you are such an idiot.

  • @no1horselover

Just so you know, horses barely have feeling in the crest of their mane, so they barely feel this, read up on your horse facts, dipshit.

  • @saraspiller bullshit! what horse told you that moron!

the horse in this video is clearly not happy and its hurting him, any idiot can see that.

You dont need to read books to see how a horse feels you stupid cow.

  • @no1horselover

Obviously you're a bloody stupid moron who doesn't know jack shit about horses.

I pull my horses mane every month, and she eats while I'm doing it. She's the type of horse who would bite you if she wasn't pleased, or if you hurt her.

You really need to learn your facts.

  • @no1horselover horses hate standing still and figgit a lot do you even own a horse or have a least even read a damn horse book

  • @no1horselover DUDE !!!!!!!!!!! This isnt me... so cut your shit

  • @no1horselover Horses dont have nervs in the end of their mane like people do.

  • @no1horselover omfg really horses barley have any nerves in thier mane at all! damn do your friggin reserch before you act like a bitch

  • I love your horse's nose!! Beautiful horse!!

  • Thank you so much for uploading! I needed to know how to do this so I can finish off my AQHA mare before our first big show!

  • no this is not bautiful

  • Thanks for uploading this!

I used to use horse hero about 100 times a day, but now they are making us pay to watch the videos. :'(

  • Why do you pull horse's manes?

  • to make it thinner and to make it easier to plait but it is soo harsh the horse here is displaying pain it doesnt enjoy its mane being pulled.. how would u like to have your hair oulled out it is soo much better if u just cut the horse mane into layers at the bottom

  • It doesn't feel pain. The top of their necks, the crest, does not have many pain sensors. Try pinching the skin on your elbow- doesn't hurt, right? They feel the pressure, but no pain.

Please don't cut your horses manes, it's the equine equivalent of a bowl cut.

  • nopt if u cut it the way i do ... i cut on the angle up the mane so it isnt straigh cute

  • @melissalisa123 Horses do not have nerve endings in their mane.

  • ok so why when i pull my horses mane he pulls away and has a tear in his eye ... My friend used to do it and he didnt like it either he pulled away and groaned they do feel pain

  • @melissalisa123 I'm sorry but that sounds really ridiculous. If it hurt them I'm pretty sure they'd let you know! If I pulled your hair out you would probably scream (in the horses case bite or kick). Horses can't feel it.

  • @UnrealJumping well then how come the horse here is pulling away... not all horses will bite and kick not all horse are nasty ... some horse will take it but this horse is showing signs of it being in pain

  • @melissalisa123 as she said. some horses aren't always well behaved. Just like some horses don't like having their ears touched.

  • that is very interesting.. i never new how to do that
