Ummm, I hate to say it, BUT, They have every right to make an insurance claim. It is only fair. However, also bear in mind that if they send their automobile in to be checked by an authorized mechanic, and he says "this is broke, and that is now bad cause it is dented." Then regardless of video evidence, it is still an obligation to have it repaired.
On a lighter note, having him report it to insurance is less awful thing as it doesn't go to court, and your insurance company pays for it. :)
