Actually there was a Star Dreadnought. Before the movies in the EU there is a powerful ship known as the Star Dreadnought class. It also makes an appearence with Lando Calrissian in one of the more recent Star Wars Novels.

Yep. Even though it's described as a mile long, it's really hard to capture that scale in your mind until you actually see how massive it is! Even though it's a mere destroyer in the Imperial fleet, it's still one of the coolest and most evil designs in all sci-fi.

yep yep 1,7Km is huge size but this is Imperial class Stardestroyer and this class wasnt able to fly in atmosphere (they was even built in orbital shipyard), older, smaller Victory class star Destroyer can fly at stmosphere

Well that wa according to Timothy Zahn' novels, unfortunately after Episode IIII where we see Republic pre Imperial Star Destroyes and the game Force Unleashed, well those rules about atmospheric re enter and so on are put into garbage
