Today if the guy wanted to borrow it, the owner of the album (which would be a CD) would just copy for him onto a CD or break it up into MP3 form and send it off to him via a file sharing site lol
That is John Canada Terrell that delivers that famous line. He starred in Spike Lee's first joint and also was Flash in "The Five Heartbeats". He's been in a bunch of stuff through the years but this is probably one of his best known lines. Classic commercial.
I just tried calling the number. Damn, it's a telemarketing number now. I was trying to get my own.
On the real, I when I was a kid, I thought the "Delfonics" were actually called the "Incomparable Delfonics". I heard that so many times I figured that must be their name.
Man i loved that commerical expect when that gotdamn screen when u see the visa and mastercard logos and that damn announer who be telling the people to order now h
OMG ! longingforthepast, You hit the nail right on the head man. They ran this commercial past the hole. Now all we need is that gospel commercial that quoted "Who in the hell left the gate open!" right?
OMFG--I remember that gospel record commercial!! It used to air on WNYW (Ch. 5 NY) in the afternoons when I would watch the reruns. That line you quoted came from a sermon titled "Watch Them Dogs". I remember it started with an Al Green song and even had a Sam Cooke tune on there as well. Then a song called "Touch Me Lord Jesus" as the voice over said "gospel greats from the past". This was definitely from 1987-88.
Wow, just amazing to see this again after all these years. I've used that line hundreds of times through the years...."no my brother, you got to buy yo' own". Back in the day, I'd be watching the Honeymooners, late night and this commercial would come on. Whoever posted this, thanks SO much.
I have both volumns 1 & 2 which are now out of print from Time Warner which released these classics years ago,...and I paid about $5 bucks each at Circuit City about 7 years ago. Glad I snatched them up! I'm going to throw on Vol. 1 right now.
We had a love/hate relationship with this commercial...every time it would come on, we'd groan, but we knew every word of it by heart. And quote it randomly in conversation. The best was when somebody would ask to borrow something, and you'd reply, "No, my brotha, you got to buy your own."
