Um, I'm could be wrong, but I think the reason they aren't leaving alot of guys back to protect Crompton is because the the defense isn't supposed to pound on him, so they send the ends out to catch the ball or distract the defense on passing plays.I am pretty sure this is why Crompton wears a green shirt. It makes sense to me.
