@matfile the red one is a sampler, this one is a synthesizer. this one is better for jazz if you know how to program a synth, but the sampler is better for say hip hop. personally i recommend this one
I really appreciate this. It's not the mindless thumping I hear from a lot of people with the EMX. This is really frakkin good. Keep up the good work!
not bad, but the effects don't sound quite right. I got my emx awhile ago, and i cant figure out how to play something on a pattern, and use that same synth/whatever part to be pasted EXACTLY into another pattern with new parts (ie drums or w/e) to build up in a song. Please help? D:
I am considering the purchase of this machine. the problem I am experiencing is that I cannot seem to find any alternatives to this machine to compare. would you know of any? I am looking for a drummachine/sampler like the EMU XL-7 or this little box: one with extensive tweaking possibilities.
thanks, I have decided upon an electribe. though I would have preferred the drumparts to be routed through a filter section as well, it has done wonders for my enjoyment of music production. it is a nifty machine. I do like it.
simply amazing! what an inspiration. i wished that the camera was zoomed out a bit so that we could see all! I have one but i am so intimidated. just have to start the long journey !!!
If you wana see some jackass standing up playing one of these things come watch my new video... It's not some super cool Detroit house track like this, but it'll show a different side of the emx!!! Good use of the ribbon btw!!
@3v45b5 it uses smart media card, twice bigger and thinner then sd-card and very vulnerable, compared with 1.44 floppydisks and very hard to come by...
so can you turn it all the way up?, (soz for the stupid questions-I'm getting one this monday and i just wondered) my friend has one and he doesn't touch the tube gain knob so....
its ok haha. i think the reason that he wouldnt turn it up all the way is because it doesn't really give such a great sound.. it sounds ridiculously distorted. i wouldn't advise it, but if you really wanna do it that's fine, when i play shows with my emx, i have parts of tunes that have the distort on full, and haven't had a single problem with my emx at all. :)
I've had mine for a while now and never had any problems. As far as the physical construction I'd say it's very high quality. This is professional kit.
hey,im new at this, but can the emx1 work as its own instrument isolated without other instruments wired or attached?and does the emx1 come with its own beats and synth sounds that u can tinker and things like that?ur reply would be highly appreciated!
so many chatting s**t on getting a EMX1 for 200 and 210 dollar. where did yers get them coz im watching ebay the last 29 days for 1 and there more like $534 shipped so stop blowing bubbles and give your head a wobble. nice tune by the way sonicwave
Sweet tune! Very inspiring! EMX PRIDE!! - The EMX1 is going for about $450 NEW on eBay. You may find used pieces for $200's but beware of possible issues from used ones such as buttons that arent responsive, bad tubes, jitter knobs... etc... I would save the money and get a brand new one with warranty and save the headaches.
Again - EXCELLENT tune sonicwave2007. A great use of the EMX no question about it.
Im in a band, were looking to become a synth metal band. We want to do styff like ENTER SHIKARI but im wondering, if we had all the complicated synth. could that just be done on software on the computer, then could all the tracks (say 7 or 8) be loaded onto a KAOSS PAD and just played live on that (and ofcourse manipulated using it)????
Enter shikari is not really synth metal, I'm sorry to say. Saints of Eden is synth metal; I think you might be interested. Get a MIDI controller like an Axium and hook it to a keyboard and laptop for live perfomances
i have no experience with like dj'ing or electronic music making (apart from garage band on mac) - but i am very musical - bass, saxohone, piano drums -- was wondering if this wud be worth buying cus it looks sick, wud love to do some enter shikari covers or sumat
is it RELLY hard to do? or could a complete noob like me manage it witht the instruction manuals?
why don't you try and start with a cheaper korg like ea1 or em1 and see if you're comfortable with these kind of machines before laying all that money to this
I've just bought one from ebay for 440 USD. I can't believe how cheap they are for what they are capable of. Im sick of using software but hardware is so expensive, so this should be a good start.
that is sweet, man. So I've been thinking of buying one of these bad boys...can something like this be reproduced straight up with tweaks, or did you pre-load something?
haha djsmallboy , so true.. still groovy :) love it. sounds like video game music ( i love video music) . The expressiveness in the melody is VERY nice.
You're Great! I'm Korean Composer. I decided to buy this gear watching your awesome video. I wanna use this EMX-1 for my dance music, and in this time when I go to Japan, I'll take it!! Thanks a lot!!
How do you make that solo-part... Have spent a month to work that out but can't find it... Found other magic trics but not the one you are using... I use a ESX maybe that is impossible that you really need a EMX for it, but i'm sure it is possible! Post me if you like... ;) thnx anyway
So, I've read a little, but can someone explain to me the difference between the EMX and the ESX? It says the ESX is a sampler, so does that mean it's like the EMX, but you can load your own sounds onto it? Any other differences?
The EMX has the synth engine (I think something similar to the RADIAS/R3). It has samples loaded (drums, digital waveforms), but you cannot load your own. The ESX is the sampler, which can load (and, I assume, record) custom sounds. They have similar sequencing capabilities. With the EMX, you can do all of the basic synth stuff (setting frequency, modulation, etc) to create your own sounds. The ESX does not offer that, but instead offers things like sample slicing and stretching.
moi aussi g la emx, c cler ke tu te debrouille vraiment bien, mais je pige pas comment tu fé pour jouer differentes notes sans toucher au crossfader...mais enorme boulot kan meme!
Hey man, this is fantastic. I've been wanting one of these for a while now, and now I am pretty sure that I should get one. I think it'd fit in well with my machines, you should check out some of my beat making vids. Kickass solos btw

There are SD card ---> Smart Media card adapters, though those adapters cost almost as much as Smart Media cards. :P
But they are easier to find with SD cards so... You decide.

Yeah, it is its own instrument. Don't need to plug anything into it or anything like that.
Hell, yes it comes with its own beats and synth sounds! You can then make your own beats/tracks and then create your own synth sounds on the fly.
