  • Hells yeah, this is way better than Copperhead Road.

  • This man really has balls!!,,,Steve Earle forever!!!!

  • freedom of speech mate rock on steve you're a true american

  • @boondocksaint621 umm, why don't you just go the fuck away? Is somebody holding a gun to your head and making you watch this?

  • right on! music to my ears. piss in that alphabet soup.

  • steve earle / butt maggot..............lol

  • Ah, excellent.

  • Go, Steve!

  • what you hear on CMT today is crap, pop music crap, so is rap, hip hop, and everything else you hear on MTV. the real artist like Neil Young, Tom Petty ect...will soon be gone. and I dont hear anyone taking there place.and that is sad.

  • ecsorsizing your right to free speech will get you arrested every time

  • Some of Johnny's early stuff on Sun was rock and roll as far as im concerened . He rocked man ! It's funny how some people can just ignore the fact that he gave" Nashville" the finger ! he did it on film , the mainstream country music business turned there back's on him in the 60's and 70's now the CMT flag waving no talent cookiecutter bullshitters are trying to claim his "country roots" now that he's dead and can't give them the finger too .

  • Steve Earl isn't dead

  • you don't say? I was Referring to Johnny Cash Man

  • Oh Condi, Condi!

  • F* the CIA ,F * the FBI , F* the NSA, God Bless America, God Bless Free Speach,

    God Bless Steve Earle.

  • I've been listening to Johnny Cash's "Bitter Tears" recently... I've heard that right-wingers freaked out over it and country radio wouldn't play it when it came out in the early 60's. Nothing really changes, it just that the mainstream gets even lamer, so true outlaw country music like Steve Earle seems more radical by comparison.

  • Fukken A!

  • some people dont know shit about the real man in black .he was a rebel in the true sense, he lived it for real . not your fake nashville cmt wannebe bullshit . he hung out with kris and willie he played with the killer and elvis and roy. he played rock and roll and prayed to god listen to the lyrics of his songs they are a lot more than just country .

  • Johnny Cash WAS rock n roll, he didnt just play it.

  • reminds you of the man in black don't it? he wouldn't change for the man either . was it kris kristofferson who got in trouble for johnny's song at the opry or was it the other way around? anyhow he's in the same league

  • No, it doesn't remind of Johnny Cash at all. He wouldn't call his country the "mutherfucking USA." He knew the difference between dissent and treason.

  • Can you explain to me how telling the Federal Communications Commission to go fuck themselves represents treason.

  • 1). The word "motherfuckin'" is an INTENSIFIER, so he's not CALLING the USA anything. It's actually a patriotic statement: "I'm living in friggin' AMERICA, so I've got a RIGHT to criticize the government." 2). Even if he was insulting the USA, that's not "treason." Treason would be like selling nuclear secrets to an enemy country. Calling names don't = treason. 3). Take a good listen to the album "Bitter Tears" by Johnny Cash--Steve Earle never recorded an album quite that political.

  • steve earle is O.G. country, which is OUTLAW MUSIC. if you want an artist who celebrates the status quo and conservatism, don't listen to outlaw music.

    listen to toby keith.

  • @peyoteugly

Or listen to Johann Sebastian Bach. He sure as F won't be meddling in today's political opinions...

  • @Bietel

Largely since Bach's dead. I'm not sure why musicians or celebrities aren't allowed to hold political views and broadcast them. I mean, I think Ted Nugent and Sammy Hagar are idiots (if good musicians), but they're certainly entitled to their right-wing opinions. So, what's the deal with giving Earle flak for expressing his lefty views?

  • @azegas

Erm, I didn't make myself clear, I'm sorry - what I said was meant in support of Steve Earle.

What I meant to say was: if people don't like musicians expressing political opinions, they should listen to Bach.

You're spot-on about Ted Nugent by the way :-) and I guess about Sammy Hagar too. Personally, I remember being deeply disappointed that Rick Wakeman, a childhood hero of mine, turned out to be a supporter of Margaret Thatcher. Ah well... I'll play Stve Earle's records instead!

  • Apparantly you don't know the difference between dissent and treason. Both Earle and Cash are dissenting. Treason might be the act of being so fucking ignorant you don't have a fucking clue. In that case, You're totally fucked.

  • @JohnnyTRex99

Whereas you clearly do NOT know the difference between freedom of speech and censorship.

I'm from the Netherlands; if I would say something about the 'motherfucking USA', well sir, I'd understand if it would piss you off (and I wouldn't dream of doing that), but it's only in very evil states that saying something like that would actually get you into trouble.

Using the word treason the way you do is a serious threat to the freedom the USA stands for - or SHOULD stand for.

  • Reminds me a lot of the man in black. He loved Steve's music and supported it until the end. That's why his family got Steve to sing "Folsom Prison Blues" on the Johnny Cash tribute: to make a point about freedom of speech and what Johnny Cash really stood for.

  • fuck the IRS, fuck the ATF, fuck the DEA and all the mutherfuckin shit they say.

  • @6kardon76 you got that right !!!!!!!

  • yeah baby!

  • Legend

  • Fuckin right.

  • yeah steve! tell 'em, boy!

  • Fuck Yeah!

  • what are the chords for this song? thanks.

  • G C and D

  • I rarely agree with Steve Earle about much of anything, even though he is one of my favorite singer songwriters, but he hit the nail on the head with this one. Ya'll should check out the album version, it's awesome.

  • now why was that neccessary? i know this song is political, but its comments like those that kinda ruin it.
