  • They released London Calling at a reduced price (a double LP for the price of a single album) so when it did relatively well, it gave them a little bargaining chip to release Sandinista! at the price of a double album for a triple LP. And they were only about a year apart, so I don't think it could've worked the other way, releasing a triple album after only 2 previous single albums....and while LC is a great solid double, Sandinista! is a really good double spread over 3 records....

  • @Telstar62a .... typical clash, never had any intensions to rip off the working class, they always remembered where they came from.

  • @Telstar62a it's a really good double & an incredible single lp...

  • I'm just amazed at how Sandinista is such a great album!

  • @12rhcpfan ...... they never ceased to amaze did they :)

  • @rubhersoul1 ... you are straight on with your comment.

  • This song is Topper Headon showing what a phenomenal drummer he was

  • yes it does, he was/is a jazz drummer anyway so this song suited him down to the ground

  • It's difficult to say witch album is better London Calling or Sandanista..............

Would say Sandanista, only by the fact that it contains more songs..

  • quite agree with you there :)

  • Sandinista!

Often over-shadowed by London Calling, but would it be the other way round if Sandinista was the first to be released?

  • yes i think your right m8 ... this album is truly a classic (maybe a bit long ie: 3 albums) but never got the attension it deserved

  • I agree, its the most musically diverse album in History of music!!!

PS:No, Sandinista was released after London Calling...

    But thats not that important...

  • @TheCrackerFactory If Sandinista was released first it might have killed their career. Not that it isn't great in a lot of areas, but London Calling solidified their stance as a major force and broke them in the States. It allowed them the freedom to dare to put a triple lp out of new material. No one ever did that before and no one ever will again. You gotta be a true fan to appreciate a lot of it. Glad I'm one of them cuz I love it. "Warts and all" as Strummer put it.

  • yes m8, your right. i think it was a bad idea at the time and also when i heard it i thought it was something that was never gonna catch the public attention which in a way is right but clash fans are always gonna love sandinista, i myself prefer many of the tracks than the tracks on london calling or any of the other albums.

  • This is what I loved about the Clash. They could play whatever kind of music and still make it their own and still have that Punk edge. "Sandinista" is an underrated masterpiece.

  • yes m8 your dead right, underrated big time. they made jazz sound good on this song

and like sound of the sinners, they made gospel sound good. they could turn their hand to anythingand whenever they done a cover version it was always better than the originals

  • Used to play this jazzy rocker from Sandinista over and over....only this band could have pulled off so many styles of music!

  • yes me too ... dead right about the only band that could do so many styles of music .... thats what made them so good

  • this is just one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever.

  • yes

  • Never heard this before...it's...interesting.

  • yes this is classic clash .. they could put their hand to any music ... any music type they didnt do its because they didnt want to ie: pop ... lol
