  • 1580 kWh/year = 158 $ at 0.1$/kWh.

    Your saves 158$ per year.

Hope you payed your turbine less that 474$ to get your money back after 36 months.

The technology look great but what they say is a total crap.

  • I have read the below comments, and would like to caution people to NOT talk about things that they have not researched, tried, or know nothing about.

@goose2goose2: I cant tell you why they havent contacted you back, however, I know that it is NOT because the unit is under performing or a piece of junk, it is because they are very busy. I can say this for a fact, since they have been to my house for a pre-install inspection.

  • wast of money

  • @lp000028 Just for the record, I am not promoting they Honeywell wind turbine, however, as the Chairman of the Minnesota Energy Conservation Council, I can tell you that we are having 2 of these units installed for our building (a 23,000 Sq. Ft. building that used to be an elementary school), and that we have, in fact done our research. 2 of these units will produce more than we can use in a day, so they are not a waste of money - paying the electric company is the waste!!

  • well,but the price...

  • @napoleonfs The price is actually very good if you compare it to the costs of a standard 5 KW wind turbine that doesnt even come with a controller, setup, or anything else. For my home, which is a 23,000 sq. ft. home (old elementary school), I use 42 KW a day, and with just 2 of these turbines, I make more than I need to run the entire building.....they last 15-20 years. How much do you spend on electricity in 15-20 years?

  • no way it can pay for itself that fast

  • Here is Gizmag review on it, sounds pretty good gizmag . com/earthtronics-honeywell-windgate-wind-turbine/11990/

  • This is a serious bird, bat and honeybee killer....

    stay clear

  • @goose2goose2 Excellent point! Thanks for adding that..

  • There is one in Hawaii...it's useless...make no power and costs 20,000 dollars

installed. they finally took it down and scrapped it.

  • The clothe will tear and fade. The TIPS will get blocked with ice and snow. Why dont people just use MAGNETS! You could put this thing INDOORS. Like in a corner. The magnets dont have to depend on the wind. Look up magnet powered turbines. WIND!? There is also a E.O. for FEMA to take all turbines and solar panels in case of some EMERGENCY the governments feels is bad enough. So you would just get it stolen by the government like everything else.

  • at what stores an do they buy back

  • Is another way to take federal and state money with an over engineered good for nothing devise.

  • Whats the deal with the new company Mandalay wind turbines? Their video is pretty cool with the jets flying 10 feet off the water.

  • Article by Paul Gipe, Author of the book Wind Power and one of the most well respected names in evaluating wind turbines shows that this turbine is most definitely not proven.

  • @brokengun just because something hasn't been proven by someone you think knows what they're talking about; doesn't mean this does not work. I find it funny that the minute someone thinks outside of the conventional "box" scientists and/or other people like you try to discredit things like this. Sure, we've had several snake oil salesmen in our days, but we do have consumer protection against those types of scum. So why doubt their claims? Won't be good for business, especially online

  • @AcidRaZor Hi acid...

well no doubt your are right..but this particular "out of the box is a turkey...some are and some are not..

this puppy is loser....thanks for your input.

  • @goose2goose2 yea. I actually contacted them (a reseller) and they said several months ago "this weekend we're installing and testing". Never heard back from them even though I contacted them several times. Must be underperforming or not performing at all. nice concept though. still think this will work :)

  • @AcidRaZor Well I'm always looking, like you...but the price...whoo hoo...

    We can do lots better.

Check out the GUS Turbines at Wild Nature Solutions

    very nice.

  • @brokengun correct! no long life turbine here...it's a loser

  • @leamyvideo : leamyvideo, you are right. We should have given up oil a long, long time ago! If other people could only imagine North America without any Middle East oil influence! No need to invade other countries at an economic ruining cost, no oil spills, no greenhouse gasses!

We have to move forward and not worry about money because I don't know of any other planet out there that I could move to once this one is ruined...

  • EXPENSIVE EXPENSIVE EXPENSIVE. TOO EXPENSIVE!

  • @wyattlisadana

Ah if it pays for itself in a year or two years and lasts for ten years or twenty years then it saved you a ton of money.

  • @toomanyaccounts "if"....but it doesn't....so for get about it

  • I can make one better for 100 buck$!

so why would i buy one of these thinges for 4500 dollers?????

  • Honeywell Employee Shafting Technique # 2:

New grad accepts job at $35 per hour. Works 40 hours first week and following week gets notified by manager that it is expected to put in 50 hours per week.

Employee puts in extra hours expecting it to show up in paycheck. Guess what? Paycheck only reflects 40 hours! WTF? Employee checks with HR and gets rude awakening: it is Honeywell policy to not pay overtime but CHARGE the customer the overtime ANYWAY!!! Way to go Honey!

  • @payntingdotcom

you are being very clover but not very smart

every building, every car, every parking lot, every coal gen, ect ... change the System big time (by adding heat thus more wind)

harnessing the wind energy dose not counter this human interference enough !!!!!

wake up and look around you ... then lets talk wind system interference for real

you guys would see the needle but deny the haystack !!!

ya Im going to worry about the effects of mildly less breeze LOL

  • What idiots. You guys are acting like wind farms eat up wind in an edible fashion thus altering our system. How smart do you have to be to realize wind farms are no different in affect to a building or any type of structure? Wind turbines simply use the mechanical force of wind to move it, it doesn't consume it.

    Duh, hello....

  • you all think you have the answer to everything and if someone is trying to invent something that will cut our dependency on foreign oil, you will all find a reason to shoot it down with your bullshit 10$ words. The problem with well educated people is they don't have an ounce of common fucking sense in their whole body. Time for you people of higher learning to pull your heads out of your asses.

  • @al080664 AMEN BROTHER

  • I want to know how it will perform in 65-75MPH winds. WHY? See Youtube video.. "AIR POWERED HYDROGEN CELL GENERATOR."

  • Dude I have one of these...it totally works. I even shot mine with a bb gun and my friend saw on the gage that it actually made a little energy. So I fired about several hundred rounds into the blades and got more energy. I also fired about 12 rounds from a .22 and it also worked, but bent the blades. We had to take it down and knock out the dents. I even tried a 12 gauge - which wasn't so smart because we had to professional repair it. I'll just stick to the bb gun for now.

  • What enviromentalists forget is that wind power alters the natural flow of energy on the planet. If you take energy out of the wind to power something, that wind is not available to partake of normal weather patterns. So, in theory, the mass use of wind to power man's needs, could really affect the climate in a catastrophic way. The amount of wind generated by the sun is fixed. The provides us our weather. If you remove the wind for man's purposes, you alter the weather. Forget CO2. This is real

  • lol. Hey, we can go after butterflies in china, to cut down on hurricanes, too.

Wind is not generated by the sun (unless you're talking solar wind, but you're not). Wind is generated by high and low pressures, in a chaotic system we call weather, which has many factors (including the sun, which is only a small part).

Do you really think that altering surface wind has any measurable effect on climate?

These aren't skyscrapers. Please get real.

  • You are 100% incorrect. The uneven heating of the earth's surface by the sun is what causes wind. Where do you think pressure differentials come from? The energy of the sun drives all weather. Remove that energy from the system, and you have altered the system.

  • also plate tectonics create hot spots in the ocean which helps the drive currents, which then have effects on the weather too.

  • plate tectonics has no effect on wind. Ocean currents are driven by wind.

  • So by the same argument, using solar PV panels robs the earth of the sun's energy, thereby affecting the wind (since you claim it's all due to the sun), thereby affecting climate.

Thermodynamics works in china, so I claim butterflies in china alter the system, too. Those infernal insects flapping those giant wings are screwing everything up.

The scale of the issue you're arguing is on the scale of jumping up and down affecting the orbit of the earth. It's a non-issue.

  • You've got to be kidding me!

  • You're correct in that the sun is the driver of the wind. You're incorrect in that collecting it would have no noticeable effect. Compared to the trees, the mountains, and the very surface of the earth, windmills would have an immeasurably small effect.

It's like complaining that tidal energy robs the Earth of its spin.

  • Yes, the effect would be very small. That is not my point. My point is that in theory, as I said, if you remove too much wind from the system, you destroy the climate. The question therefore is how much is too much. And this is where environmentalists become inconsistent in their thinking. They have always warned about the slippery slope of man doing anything on a mass scale. Wind diversion, just like anything else, in theory, is a slippery slope.

  • ok, so u can get back the money you were scammed out of! everybody wins, except for maybe-probably-a-little-but-better-because-you -have-a-wind-turbine you!

  • People should stop worrying about how long it takes to pay back the initial investment. I realise that even a good DIY turbine is pricey but think about it. Once it's made just sit back smug in the knowledge that you're either making electricity to sell back or at the very least reducing your dependency on the grid and reducing your electric bill. Anything that stops the utility companies making huge profits has got to be good...

  • do not forget that with obama's new go green policy, up to 55% of the entire cost of this product is tax deductable, which leaves only around $2000 out of your pocket..i think it's something to consider, time will tell

  • Every house in America should have atleast four of these-I cant afford one,but maybe if my taxes were less i could buy one.

  • What happens when it snows and ice builds up on it?

15% of a home's power? We pay $1000/yr for all electric, so it will save me $150?

  • we pay more than that!

  • It amazes me that, when there is so much information out there to say 'this wont work' that companies like Honeywell and Ace Hardware would get on board with this sort of stuff. This has no chance... it is only the latest in a long line of wind energy scams. Ashame.. wind energy can work well done right, this sort of stuff will only give it a bad name.

  • I think it is a good well thought out system. Time will tell. Payback is a difficult issue because it varies so much from situation to situation. In many cases it doesn't matter that much. What's your "payback" on having a nicer car? Keep in mind that because wind energy is good for society, it is subsidized through tax credits to the individual and $4,500 is not the net cost to the individual. The net cost to society of coal generated electricity is not what we pay our utility either.

  • If you think this is a well thought out system, you need to do some research on wind turbine design.

You can buy a 1kW turbine and a grid tie inverter for half the price of this system and produce 4 times the power.

The only strength of this product is a good marketing plan.

As P.T.Barnum would say: "There's a sucker born every minute."

  • Where?

  • the magnets 4 less site for one

  • Im very surprised Honeywell put their name on this piece of junk.

  • This is a disaster of design. I can't even imagine cleaning leaves, sticks and wind blown stuff out of this thing. And I can just see what would happen if a bird would get stuck in it.

Maybe it should be back to the drawing board with this one.

  • The average wind speed where I live is MPH. My electric rate is $0.08/kWh, multiple that by 2000 kWh/year and my saving is $160/year. Divide that into the $4500 cost and it will take 28 years to pay back the cost of the unit. A lot more than the 4-5 years stated on the earthtronics site.

It's BS like this that turns people off to alt-energy.

  • I believe they were factoring in states tax rebates/write offs. So in theory they are not lying ;)

  • Seriously you wind power guys gotta get real on your pricing- most residentail households would 6 years to use $4500.00 worth of electricity.

My business which uses $6000.00 a year could't benefit from this generator for 10 yrs.

You also neglect to relate how much and how often maintenaince is required.

Its a interesting idea but the cost to savings

just isnt in the retail price.
