Apparently my Uncle used to jam with him in the 70's. They both died around they same time, but my uncle was only 19 years old. RIP Lightnin and Uncle Pat.
@Odin029 One reason it's difficult to get a hold of Lightin' at least on this tune is that his Strat is so out of tune it's ridiculous. It's not that he's using a different key it's standard either. Not saying anything against him or the song at all. It is a pretty common lick and used in many other songs with variations.
@AdvHacker check out Eric Beebe I think he has the feel just that people do not have the feel or soul anymore to understand what these greats were and did for all music.
There's lots of variations of blues modern electric blues isn't the same as the original blues or Louis Armstrong's blues. Lightnin' is missing notes and can't play as fast as he's trying to. Same with John Lee Hooker- great blues man- fingers as fat as they come. Some of the great blues men weren't very good guitar players.
@whemadre when you speak of cats like Lightnin' Hopkins the deciding factor is their inlfuence. He's one of the father's of modern music. Listen to his peers as well as those he influenced and you will see the true measure of the man.
@GoodbyeBieber2 why the heck you saying john lee hooker wasnt a good guitar player? he was in a much different style of blues then lightin here so yes they do sound good and both were just as good in there forms
@deepwoodskentuckian Im sorry but i disagree with you. Lightnin Hopkins played complexer than John Lee Hooker. Hooker plays a very easy kind of guitar playing. Lightnin Hopkins is an excellent fingerpicker. But youre right the both sound very cool with or without good guitar playing.
@deepwoodskentuckian Do you mean "other musicians dont make music like this anymore"? Im sorry, but Im not a native english speaker so im not sure if i understood you right.
@GoodbyeBieber2 I think you might be confusing easy with simple. John Lee Hooker's style was really really simple, but I've yet to hear anybody who can really replicate it. Lightnin's style is tough to get a hold of because of his timing, but trying to get John Lee's style is like beating your head against a clear wall.. you should be able to play three freakin notes... but you can't get it right
@GoodbyeBieber2 I do know why he and guys like him are so difficult. They didn't have any formal 'western' style music training. They taught themselves, learning their own chord voicings and hybrid scales and arpeggio runs. They invented rhythms that they liked and played without regard to time signature or bars. They were completely unique like something handmade rather than manufactured by a machine, like most music is today.
@Odin029 Good point. I read in the sleeve notes of a boxed set of John McLaughlin (an incredibly techncial player and the favourite of both Miles Daivs and Jeff Beck): He "knows that plenty of people can play guiatar better than John Lee Hooker but nobody else can play as well as Hooker."
@Mariekesone Feeling a little frisky tonight, sis? Sending some blues waves your way to rock your day. Don't let 'em smack you in the face when you wake up ;-) "Blues is easy to play but hard to feel". One can not teach this kind of feeling. Lightnin' was born to play the blues -- it was coursing through his veins. Thanks for sharing.

this is intense ! check it .
lightnin' despises that bass player !
he's looking at him ,like, 'you dress like that ,you better be bad !'
and it's not clicking !
the wat i see it is , the drummer fucks the tune up by adding the snare .
it loses the pulse of the song .
