  • not even Jimi could top this

  • Lightnin, John Lee, Muddy and Wolf....The true fathers of modern blues, soul, and rock.

  • he is the greatest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What's that a beer I see? I'm shocked : )

  • @0209KMK58 Is he not suppose to have beer?

  • Albert Collins was Lighting Hopkins cousin

  • he could blow away most "blues players" of today with just three notes.

  • IM LOVN the way he wore his hat, wut a cool cat

  • @88ripitup He's wearing his sky ace duce! yeah!

  • Thanks for posting, for real.

  • one bad hustler. you know he had lots of girlfriends.

  • At 1:20 the bassist is starting to question whether the 4 chord was a wise decision.

  • Nice!

  • klasse nummer

  • Was this performance recorded (even in a bootleg)?

  • The Bluesman Himself!!

    Aberdeen Slim2011

  • 'like your granmma used to roll a biscuit dough'

  • this is intense ! check it .

lightnin' despises that bass player !

he's looking at him ,like, 'you dress like that ,you better be bad !'

    and it's not clicking !

the wat i see it is , the drummer fucks the tune up by adding the snare .

it loses the pulse of the song .

  • Go 'head, pimp daddy!! Love that fedora!

One of the bluest cats in the biz!!

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT, LOVE BLUES

  • Long live ol' Lightnin; you sure is one bad mo fo!:)

  • Ol' beast lol

  • Apparently my Uncle used to jam with him in the 70's. They both died around they same time, but my uncle was only 19 years old. RIP Lightnin and Uncle Pat.

  • My dad played guitar with him in Fort Worth in the early 60's. What a great blues influence!

  • @Odin029 One reason it's difficult to get a hold of Lightin' at least on this tune is that his Strat is so out of tune it's ridiculous. It's not that he's using a different key it's standard either. Not saying anything against him or the song at all. It is a pretty common lick and used in many other songs with variations.

  • He was so cool, wish he was still around.

  • This was my grandfather's song!

  • Saw this man play many years ago in Houston

  • @luckytxn I saw him in Houston, in a joint on Westheimer. Long time ago.

  • there are no colors in the blues my friends...

  • @2nl5 compadre, every color is a shade of the blues.

  • @dokturJeh

so true..you said it better than I did.

  • this is the real face of blues.

a black man (no stretoype) with a guitar jamming to pepole , enjoying the music.

the crowed can see he's whacking soul.

wish there more pepole like that. blue's is 2miles from death and this is so sad.

prey pepole! prey for all the pepole to understand what we understand and leave the manufactured MTV crap behind

  • @AdvHacker check out Eric Beebe I think he has the feel just that people do not have the feel or soul anymore to understand what these greats were and did for all music.

  • The Bass man is effing up the tune with wrong notes.

  • When dis? 1970 what?

  • Black Elvis!!

  • He was a true Master. Do your thing King Lightnin'. This one's for you sir. Thanks for bringing your light into the world. Still killing it.

  • Awesome! Some schoolin' from one of the masters. Thanks for posting!

  • and they think that twilight dude is shiny...

  • @knite778778

Nazi much? Fuck off, racist prick.

  • God I Love This Man's Music..

  • @GoodbyeBierber2 just search Louis Armstrong blues or Louis and Billie Holliday.

  • @whemadre Thank You

  • Just search Louis Armstrong and Billie Holliday. It's blues with a big band.

  • Hate to tell you but Armstrong also played blues.

  • @whemadre Can you give me examples please?

  • "This song means a lot to all y'all. I know you don't know what it mean to me though."

  • Wow, Lighnin' the legend live! Wish I could've been there.

  • KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!

  • nice these guys are good

  • Good God! That's nothing but the low down real deal!!!

  • I am not surprised that one of the greatest players ever- James Burton- had Lightning Hopkins as his primary influence. It is all about tone and feel.

  • @whemadre,,,you're funny

  • There's lots of variations of blues modern electric blues isn't the same as the original blues or Louis Armstrong's blues. Lightnin' is missing notes and can't play as fast as he's trying to. Same with John Lee Hooker- great blues man- fingers as fat as they come. Some of the great blues men weren't very good guitar players.

  • @whemadre

Lightnin not a good guitar player? You fucking kidding me? How high are your standards for guitar playing? Watch some of his other videos.

  • @whemadre when you speak of cats like Lightnin' Hopkins the deciding factor is their inlfuence. He's one of the father's of modern music. Listen to his peers as well as those he influenced and you will see the true measure of the man.

  • @whemadre John Lee Hooker-not very good guitar player Lightnin Hopkinks-good guitar player

    Robert Johnson-good guitar player

    B.B.King-good guitar player

    Freddie King-good guitar player

    Louis Armstrong-????????????Blues???????????? !!!!!!!Jazz!!!!!!!

  • @GoodbyeBieber2 why the heck you saying john lee hooker wasnt a good guitar player? he was in a much different style of blues then lightin here so yes they do sound good and both were just as good in there forms

  • @deepwoodskentuckian Im sorry but i disagree with you. Lightnin Hopkins played complexer than John Lee Hooker. Hooker plays a very easy kind of guitar playing. Lightnin Hopkins is an excellent fingerpicker. But youre right the both sound very cool with or without good guitar playing.

  • @GoodbyeBieber2 true i guess your do have your point. i think we can both say the dont make music like this anymore at all

  • @deepwoodskentuckian Do you mean "other musicians dont make music like this anymore"? Im sorry, but Im not a native english speaker so im not sure if i understood you right.

  • @GoodbyeBieber2 I think you might be confusing easy with simple. John Lee Hooker's style was really really simple, but I've yet to hear anybody who can really replicate it. Lightnin's style is tough to get a hold of because of his timing, but trying to get John Lee's style is like beating your head against a clear wall.. you should be able to play three freakin notes... but you can't get it right

  • @Odin029 Yes maybe youre right but you must ask: "Why?" Why is he so"difficult" to play?

  • @GoodbyeBieber2 I do know why he and guys like him are so difficult. They didn't have any formal 'western' style music training. They taught themselves, learning their own chord voicings and hybrid scales and arpeggio runs. They invented rhythms that they liked and played without regard to time signature or bars. They were completely unique like something handmade rather than manufactured by a machine, like most music is today.

  • @Odin029 dig the name!

  • @Odin029 Good point. I read in the sleeve notes of a boxed set of John McLaughlin (an incredibly techncial player and the favourite of both Miles Daivs and Jeff Beck): He "knows that plenty of people can play guiatar better than John Lee Hooker but nobody else can play as well as Hooker."

  • Gold baby gold!

  • Holy shit, he's using a wah!!

  • justin beiber is so much better

  • he makes Keith Richards look lame

  • just love it!

    junnuniska

  • just love it!

  • im 14 and lightnin hopkins is my favorite muician of all time. RIP

  • hes's so amazingly relaxed! what a badass, he makes sounds with more intensity and purpose than a 20 yr old...i need to practice

  • Lightnin' bless his good soul.

  • "Its easy to play the blues, its hard to feel it."

    -Jimi Hendrix

Yeah, I think Lightnin feels it alright

I am in the Mood for Love!...Rock me Babe, i love the Blues:-) This Man rules!

  • @Mariekesone Feeling a little frisky tonight, sis? Sending some blues waves your way to rock your day. Don't let 'em smack you in the face when you wake up ;-) "Blues is easy to play but hard to feel". One can not teach this kind of feeling. Lightnin' was born to play the blues -- it was coursing through his veins. Thanks for sharing.

  • my boy lightnin' playin a strat -- i love you, man !!

  • Mungrass, this is the correct title of the song, Rock Me Baby(Rock Me) same thing. You are right. Thanks for the post.
