The spotters and the coaches dont give a shit about these girls. I mean, they do, as long as the girls are doing well. But the second they fall, or slip. the coaches dont care
Missing is a clip of Kerri Strug (USA) during a meet in Palm Desert, CA back in 1994/1995, when she lost her grip on a transition move from the high bar to the low bar during the Compulsory Exercise and flew under the low bar, landing on the side of her head with her feet/legs whipped over her head, which kept her lying on the mat for several minutes before they carried her off on a stretcher. Luckily she only suffered a strained lower back.
Thanks for posting this and demonstrating that everyone makes mistakes, even if they are the smallest, most unplanned mistakes imaginable. These girls all had the guts to keep going when they made mistakes in front of large crowds and they did it while performing skills that most of us could only imagine in our wildest dreams. They are very inspiring actually. The most important part is to get up and keep going in life, no matter what, right? :)
For the idiots who complain about the coaches not catching the gymnasts: YOU CAN GET POINTS OFF OR DISQUALIFIED IF YOUR COACH TOUCHES YOU. THEY FALL ON THEIR FACES THEY ARE USE TO IT. I WOULD RATHER FALL THAN BE DISQUALIFIED.
@RockinThaSoLows in bars they can catch them without recieving a deduction other than (maybe) not completing the element if they didnt touch the bar in "momentary hang"
@kristenevol i was just thinking the same thing! spotter right underneath the gymnast. no flinching whatsoever when the poor girl lands like a plank board at his feet LOL
i keep telling my boyfriend that going back to gymnastics itsnt as easy as it sounds. he claims it cant hurt that bad, so i dont need the mats, i dont need a trainer to help spot me, and to just go at it, and that its not that dangerous. oh boy.
I mean he did gymnastics when he was younger. Well, not really gymnastics, but hes a competative diver, so he knows how to flip and hes trained at gymnastics places, but for some reason he just doesn't realize how dangerous it is!

Some of them fall too hard and fast. If the spotter were to try and keep the girl from falling he might break her back. Others... weren't paying too much attention.
A spotter is there in case a gymnast is falling seriously. He is allowed to touch him/her after they have released the apparatus. The Ones I have seen here are behind the smaller bar to make sure the gymnast doesn't hit that bar and to prevent SERIOUS INJURY. He is allowed to catch them once they have fallen but not if they are still holding the bar. If he/she touches them while they are touching the bar it's a disqualification.
