What radios do have? the model & the Mfg ? I'm trying to get some for my vehicle. with Radios and lights?
P.s. ( Do you know of any one that could donate some radios -of all kinds portables etc. ) I got a calling in my church. 'as the ward communications". I'm trying to find someone(s) that could help me .It would be very much helpful. I haven't add any luck lately . plus it would help me with my boy scouts that i help with.
NO They are for You though if your not a paid or volunteer Firefighter. Im from MS and im an MP in the Army and a volunteer Firefighter in a City and i run Red leds with a 200 watt Whelen siren. I am perfectly legal. Each State or County has its own designated Emergency (FIRE/EMS/POLICE) Colors
@box15c22 Never "busted" through an intersection before. I'm not an idiot! And being a truck a light bar only works half the time. With cars in front of you, they dont see the light bar because it was a higher truck. If you check out the "newer" video I have i added more lights on the out side making it more of a "true" 360" . But honestly, i dont have the truck anymore haha.
I've got a Midland 1001LWX and an ICOM 2200 in mine and it works out good. That's a really nice setup though. You could probably put an APRS tracker in there too. It doesn't need any console just a radio and the tracker you could stash that under the seat and a small antenna on the back
I had a set up close to that in my ranger when I was a volunteer firefighter in NC. We could have all the lights we wanted, just no sirens in our POV.
Both the FCC (licensing & enforcement) and Coast Guard (enforcement) regulates marine radio. To operate on land, you must be a public coast station or obtain a marine utility station license. Otherwise, no land based (vehicle, boat on trailer, etc) communications is permitted. Same with land-to-land communications. Interference with marine navigation or similar communications is a class-D felony (jail). You may also be held liable for damages (boat/ship collisions, etc).
@stewartx5 As he's stated, he's a Figerfighter. AND, he has all the necessary municipal endorsements to have and use a marine radio in hie personal vehicle, as it is also used as his first-response vehicle. Yeah, he uses it to get fishing reports, I can't see how that would interfere with marine nav or normal coms. I don't think there are any major shipping lanes through Iowa...
A municipality cannot endorse use of marine radio, even by responders. Again, that's regulated solely by the federal government. He is authorized to use a land-based marine radio for emergency marine communications, but all other use is not authorized and subject to civil or criminal penalties. The absence of local marine navigation is irrelevant. Rules remain the same and, under certain conditions, radio communications can propagate hundreds of miles from original transmit point.
@stewartx5 You've got a point there... I doubt the FCC is to worried about that these days, what with the Obama administration's ideas for tracing internet traffic and silly crap like that.
unless you regularly have reason to communicate with marine vessels, such as search and rescue or recovery ops on the water, marine radios are not legal for use on land. they require licencing, just like ham radio, or GMRS/FRS radio. A ham radio licence requires you to pass a test, and show proficiency.. the marine radio, and GMRS/FRS radio services just require you to pay a fee and fill out a form.. if you haven't you are not legal. see the fcc website for details.
Why do you need to have lights/sirens on a personal vehicle? I thought you only would have them on actual vehicles that are used for firefighting purposes.
Believe it or not, I'm really interested in the rod holders. I'm with the Patriot Guard Riders, and need a way to mount multiple flags on poles. Thanks, I appreciate it. ~Wolf
marine radios used for transmitting in a land based vehicle are quite restricted... have to have some fixed legitimate purpose to be legal and transmit on marine channels...
doesn't occur to me that standard firefighter status qualifies... i could be wrong...
as to the flashing red or blue emergency lights, it's up to each state to regulate and each state might leave it to each local jurisdiction's senior management... that's as i understand common regulations..
@duumnuts LIke I said, marine radio is what it is. I use it listen to other boats on the days off, and also talk to other capts to see how the fishing is, sea cond, ect. I all know them, they all know me.
As for the red/blue light laws. Every state is different. Some states dont allow any lights, some states require you to have 360 lighting AND a siren at all times. But you want to follow your local SOG's like dunnnuts said.
@duumnuts all states state that u cannot have red or blue or both lights unless u are using them for official purpose im a first responder in IA with diving endorsements i have a marine radio in my car for use when responding on a water based incident. i did have to get a certification to have lights and my marine radio installed on my truck by the chief of my city and county board of supervisors though.
@FirefighterJohnM they have hand held ones nowadays...good for emergencies, they have a HAM
radio on the space station and you can chat with the space boys when they fly by...or marine channels
you can listen to coast guard chatter...put one in your truck man!!! you'd have the ultimate mobile communications vehicle,(your buddys would be sooo jealous!)
I have a question how can I put my radio's in the middle of my console when I have a factory console already in there? :0( Someone make a console that can replace my factory one??
A remote mounted VHF/UHF amateur radio will clean up two of the three radios in your truck, better quality, no need for a scanner or an illegal operated marine band radio as such installed. The CB is OK but I'd get that ham license and enjoy much better than your current set up.
John, why not get you an Amateur Radio Technician Class License, join a local club, so you can utilize your skills along with emergency communications aspects of Ham Radio that most Amateur clubs participate in. . Yaesu or Icom, Kenwood, or Alinco all make fine VHF/UHF wide band receive FM transceivers with some models that come with remote mounting control heads and up to 50 watts of output power. Talk simplex or duplex through local repeaters which greatly extend the range mobiles stations.
@ti17540 My strobe pack is under the hook and the power wires run to the battery. The switch wires run the switch in the cab of the truck. Which run through the fire wall. Then the wires that run to the lights in the front just clearly run to the lights. Everything is zip tied nicely. Then the wires they go to the back lights runs under the truck zit tied to the frame. Ill try and make a video of my wiring work!
Great job you did with your truck.. Can anyone tell me how I can install my Amateur Radio equipment in my Tundra when I have a console in the way.... :0( I new I shouldn't of got one with a console.. :0(,, Please Help me.. maybe it is Jotto desk time.. oh well
@bburnette21 The days off from the fire dept, I work on a party/charter fishing boat. And im first mate so often times I talk to the capt to see whats going on. We have also used my truck to talk to boats when they are coming back in for an emergency with a Pt on board
Past fire chief here, but feel free to take my comments for what they're worth.
First, I put 21 years of my life into firefighter-EMT. Stay safe, my friend!
Well done on the lights. Stealthy but effective!
The CB is often decried ... don't listen to the nay-sayers ... I've been a ham operator for some time and the ham radio won't give you the local info like the so-called Children's Band.
A very clean install, I love you controls, well done indeed!
@406314 After reading your comment 15 times to try and figure out what you just typed out I think I got it. And yes, it took me a long time to answer. I dont come on here much since i work 2 jobs and have a life, and dont sit on youtube and criticize other peoples videos!
A few questions, First, where is your EMS/Fire radio? Second, why a stupid CB? Didn't you ever hear of amateur radio? Even off the shelf, with a simple modification, you can transmitt and recieve on VHF and UHF emergency frequencies. The CB is worthless! Amateur radio you can connect with repeaters, computers, and talk around the world.
@scottp104 My EMS/Fire radio is kept at the station for duty work only. 2 CB, well one reason for the CB was for a PA speaker. Second its great when dealing wtih traffic issues. And 3 it brings back the old times. And Amateur Radios, Ehh I sure their fun I just dont have the time right now for them. Maybe later on!
if your a EMT then you def need to get lights in your back window for pulling up on a accident ...if your just a FF then your setup will do you just fine
@KeffandMac no if he is a fire fighter or a EMT we get whats called red light permits which allows us to put emergency lighting and sirens in our cars so we can respond to emergency's when we arnt at the station
I'm just hoping this guy is a fire fighter otherwise what the hell is he doing with those "911" lights?? We had a guy just the other day in the town next to mine get busted for pulling people over in a all black Crown Vic. He had the lights up front, in back, siron, radios, computer data system, antennas, badges, gun.. the whole nine. So if your not a Fire Fighter, I'd take that shit off your truck now and wouldn't advertise that you have it. Have a good one.
Nice Ham set up.... the lights make everything gway wtf is the point of that.. just so people can laugh as your gway ass.. at least don't put this on youtube.. you deserve all the hatting u get wankeer
Lawl, you can tell it bother him. He comes back with that comment. Haha. I am a wacker, yep, and drive a toyota, Yep And yes, people look at my all the time going down the road because they know me, and they wave. So yep, All 3 are true. Anything else you wanna comment about partner??
Nice Set up bro, good to hear you moved the LED's from out of the headlights. one of our guys has em in his headlights and you cant see them at night when he has his headlights on. you should check out my POV video and see if ya can get any new ideas for yours. stay safe!
@RayAir1 good job. you can spell. go bother someone else now. mayby if your good, your parents will let you stay up past your bed time and give you ice cream!
YES, I can spell. Obviously you can't. Go learn the difference between you're and your, moron. No wonder you can't do anything better with your life than work as a "volley" at some backwoods FD. What do you guys do for fun? Sit around a fire pit and get drunk?
@RayAir1 Yeah, totally. some "backwoods" department that runs over 2200 runs a year. what good thing are you doing with your life? bashing guys that are willing to risk their lives for free? sounds like your a world class moron, that has no clue the kind of risks we take.
Why do all of you demand that people think of you as heroes. It's like a psychological issue that you all have. You must live insecure lives and get no respect so you work as volleys and try to play hero.
Tell me, and be honest, were you a dweeb in high school?
@RayAir1 point out to me where in there it said that i demand of people to think of us as heroes. why must you incessantly bash volunteers just because your jealous you cant do the same things we do. your not even a firefighter. you have no idea what its like to be one. you think you know everything, but you are just a low life scumbag who thinks he's the best. are you even employed? or is bashing people on youtube your full time job. get a life moron.
Boat??? You talking about the Rod Holder in the back, and the marine radio? Thats because I also work on a fishing charter boat. On my days off I will talk to other boats or my boat and see how the fishing or the weather is. Which isnt much since I am the first mate. haha. But I also listen to the coast guard to see any new updates...
@mikejmardis Ehh Good Try Bro. Half my family is in the Coast Guard. I know the laws. There's about 50 other trucks I know around here with VHF radios in their trucks. Including businesses such as BoatUS, Seatow, and other Charter fishing boat owners and capts. Thanks for you in put have a great day!
Thanks for your comment Krazy. In my state, we are not aloud to have a siren. The next state over which would be SC you are REQUIRED to have 360º lights AND a siren on while running Code.
Im actually relocating to a new dept in SC, So I will be having a siren soon. Will post a new video when that happens. Wont be til next year though.
Yeah, Thanks I work on a fishing boat as a mate. My truck is set up alittle different now. I moved my strobes to the blinder corners, and i got new tires
NIce set up man, I gotta 96 dodge ram, I gotta figure how to wire everything and not have wires and shit all over my cab. Nice set up man, you outta be moving people over like moses.
Nice set up! I think headlight flashers would work better than the LED HAWs. Maybe you should try a 911ep light in the back window also. Overall nice set up. I just have a federal signal viper s2 in the dash and headlight flashers. Stay Safe
Yeah, no doubt, headlight flashes are brighter, thats what my dad got.. and head lights are aimed straight so they get cars ant alittle better too. I dont have to the money to get another light in the back window, i have thought about it. my back windows are very very dark, so thats why im waiting on what to do.
Why don't u get an amateur radio license, you can do so much more with fewer rigs, and eoc.

@RayAir1 good job. you can spell. go bother someone else now. mayby if your good, your parents will let you stay up past your bed time and give you ice cream!
CTFD13 1 year ago
@CTFD13
YES, I can spell. Obviously you can't. Go learn the difference between you're and your, moron. No wonder you can't do anything better with your life than work as a "volley" at some backwoods FD. What do you guys do for fun? Sit around a fire pit and get drunk?
RayAir1 1 year ago
@RayAir1 Yeah, totally. some "backwoods" department that runs over 2200 runs a year. what good thing are you doing with your life? bashing guys that are willing to risk their lives for free? sounds like your a world class moron, that has no clue the kind of risks we take.
CTFD13 1 year ago
@CTFD13
Why do all of you demand that people think of you as heroes. It's like a psychological issue that you all have. You must live insecure lives and get no respect so you work as volleys and try to play hero.
Tell me, and be honest, were you a dweeb in high school?
Have a nice day!
RayAir1 1 year ago
@RayAir1 point out to me where in there it said that i demand of people to think of us as heroes. why must you incessantly bash volunteers just because your jealous you cant do the same things we do. your not even a firefighter. you have no idea what its like to be one. you think you know everything, but you are just a low life scumbag who thinks he's the best. are you even employed? or is bashing people on youtube your full time job. get a life moron.
CTFD13 1 year ago
@CTFD13
Listen bloke,
I never said I wanted to be a firefighter or anything like that. I have no interest in it.
And like I said before, learn the difference between you're and your. You will never be able to get a REAL job if you talk and spell like a buffoon.
Be safe.

That is a funny looking boat....
ka0zoz 2 years ago 12
FirefighterJohnM 2 years ago

@mikejmardis Ehh Good Try Bro. Half my family is in the Coast Guard. I know the laws. There's about 50 other trucks I know around here with VHF radios in their trucks. Including businesses such as BoatUS, Seatow, and other Charter fishing boat owners and capts. Thanks for you in put have a great day!

seminole32 2 years ago
good job but what bout the siren?
krazyjk022 2 years ago
Thanks for your comment Krazy. In my state, we are not aloud to have a siren. The next state over which would be SC you are REQUIRED to have 360º lights AND a siren on while running Code.
Im actually relocating to a new dept in SC, So I will be having a siren soon. Will post a new video when that happens. Wont be til next year though.

A biggest thing is to not to rush it. The more you take your time, the better it will come out.

Nice set up! I think headlight flashers would work better than the LED HAWs. Maybe you should try a 911ep light in the back window also. Overall nice set up. I just have a federal signal viper s2 in the dash and headlight flashers. Stay Safe
uakron17 2 years ago
Yeah, no doubt, headlight flashes are brighter, thats what my dad got.. and head lights are aimed straight so they get cars ant alittle better too. I dont have to the money to get another light in the back window, i have thought about it. my back windows are very very dark, so thats why im waiting on what to do.
