@therightcomment99 I agree. From for example "Proud Mary"(Creedence C.R.) to "It's All Over Now" (Bobby Womack), the originals have the spark to inspire great covers.
@friendofsgran No the Arrows wrote and recorded it in 1975. Joan Jett saw them do the song on their weekly TV series and bought their record. She covered it in 1981. It went to peak chart position # 1 in the USA, and went to # 4 in England (probably because people knew the Arrows song already in the UK)..
Alan Merrill just toured the UK in November 2011 and played this and a lot of other Arrows songs, a 22 song set. He also brought in the new year with "I love rock n roll" at a concert in New York City where he played for three hours from 9:30PM-12:30AM.
@johnmighty5 That did work against the band's credibility with the press. The singer Alan Merrill had a very strong bluesy voice, but he looked like a teen idol. It was confusing to critics. Alan Merrill went on to sing, write and record songs that were later covered by Wilson Pickett, Lou Rawls, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Sir Mack Rice, Don Covay and more hard core R&B blues men. What other 70s British teen idol can say that?
@thetman102771 Everybody likes different versions of the song, but the Arrows created it, wrote it, did the first released version, giving it a personal touch none of the covers can ever have.
95% of teens these days listen to the same formulaic, crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy and paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die!
Arrows singer Alan Merrill performed this song in the UK about three month ago in London. YouTube search "Alan Merrill UK I Love Rock N Roll 2011". It's very cool.
@KeithTheKing She has something better than Britney in my opinion. She is not fake and she has some balls. But nothing except the original has surpassed Joan Jett...
@brianlol12345 The publishing is owned by London based RAK Music Ltd., the Arrows music publisher. The songwriting share is owned by Arrows band members Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker. Everybody else is covering this Arrows original song from 1975.
@TheJayman213 She's does everything sexy, including this song. Maybe not a "tough" rocker, but she sure got the boys off at her peak, and thousands of girls wanted to be her. She's done just fine.
95% of teens these days listen to the same formulaic, crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy and paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die!
@MrAertt5 Isn't it just a little bit ironic that you're complaining about formulaic stuff by posting the same (frankly pretty boring) comment over and over and over again?

@HannahGrahamOfficial The Arrows wrote this song for the Arrows. The band already had hit singles in England and were hoping for another one with this song, their fourth single release, out in 1975. Of course they hoped it would sell, for them. But their label didn't promote it. A single, no matter how good, couldn't be a hit in the UK without promotion in '75. Still, I'm sure any songwriter is happy when their song is covered successfully years after the first release and makes them money.
@KeithTheKing I know, my comment was meant to be a response to someone else, but they seemed to have removed their comment...and I obviously forgot to click 'Reply'
I'm a big fan of The Arrows myself...and 1970s music...even if I wasn't born until '96 :)
@TheShellhunter It's irrelevant if some people don't like it. It's not important. This Arrows song has made a lot of people happy, as covered by a lot of different artists. That's all that matters.
@JohnLennon100.... Yes, Joan Jett, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Alvin Stardust, melnie C., and more, all the artists who have covered this Arrows song pay the Arrows and their publisher in the UK.
