if your on a budget get the 550 and a really good lens! a 50mm f1.8 prime would get you fantastic shots. if you have more money 17-55 f2.8 IS is a fantastic versatile fast lens. if money is no object... get a 5dm2 when firmware comes out! :)

I am going to be spending money on good glass. and the real price different was about $650 and overall, the difference is not much so I decided to keep my 7D

With technology these days it never ends---I actually love this ongoing Hitler series---reflects the pain and frustration we all feel every time we buy the "latest and greatest". Things are evolving so fast you never want to invest in anything. FYI I own a 7D (great camera) and intend to buy a T2i just for video--Rebels are mechanically junk (in my experience) but if you're not using the shutter, who cares?

I should also have added hitler saying "and i bet the 550d will have a different battery to the 7d", consumer means SD.. so that means your SD, batteries... basically everything is incompatible from previous models :) (except lenses of course) so for us that want to use 550d as a second camera to 7d/5dmk2, that means we have to buy more different batteries, carry round 2 battery chargers, we cant even interchange media.

Scarlet is a new camera coming out from the makers of the RED camera (cameras used in DISTRICT9, LOVELY BONES and CHE). They're right now the best DIGITAL CINEMA cameras, but "body" cost ~$20K. The SCARLET is a version of the RED ONE, but aimed at indie filmmakers. "Body" should cost around ~$3K... lets hope.

550D is still a rebel. Build quality on the 7d is much better.

I'd give a 550D for a 7D anytime because it's a better overall camera.

Maybe not for video but I doubt you'd use 60FPS for much. Maybe sports... But good luck with the focusing and zooming.

But they are both excellent cameras.

You obviously have no clue nor are you a FILMER, but rather just some photo hobbyist. I don't give a rat's ass what the body is like, since I obviously have a (follow focus) RIG for one and the image is equal to the 7D! And I care about IMAGE.

Oh, and you doubt anyone would use 60fps?! LOL. you should check out this thing called "SLOMO" and see how it's done (properly). You'd be surprised.

Try reducing your comments to areas you know *something* about. I'm gettin' 2 (550s) for 1 (7D)!

I said that I doubt people will use the 60FPS option because of the big file size (the 550D is limited to 4Gb).

Filmers laugh at DSLR videos because of their rolling shutter artifacts. Or though they are reduced with the higher frame rate they are still noticeable. Specially when moving the camera fast.

The 7D is faster, more rugged and overall much more suited to professional PHOTOGRAPHY use. If you want video get a camcorder. ...duh.

And no, I don't own a 7D.
