Some cars like the stilo are used for city driving and ferrying kids to school and shopping etc..

Thus the Torque on that car is available at Lower RPMs(for city driving)

The Evo is a performance car and Performance Drivers dont start rolling from topgear ever..... its all about nailing the Right RPM at the Right Time.. The Evo's power curve is at higher Rpms

many people don't seem to understand -- including JC -- that turbo lag is different from lack of turbo action/torque at low rev. Turbo is a feedback loop: combustion->generate exhaust->drives turbo->forces more air into combustion. When pressing down gas peddle this feedback takes time at any rev. Lack of torque at low rev is a natural consequence of turbo design, and cannot be called turbo lag.

@lambo04life if you put in an anti lag, sure, it provides power, but you will shorten the life of your turbo quite alot. mild anti lag is fine, but too agressive, you run the risk to your turbo and your wallet.

Turbos are fucking useless if you need power right now. The gearing has to be perfectly suited to where it's being driven or you fall off boost, you have to choose between some power now or fucktons of power in a century or so, they require additional maintenance, and they have a habit of spewing oil into the engine if you aren't careful.

N/A = Supercharged > walking > turbocharged.

I think they just showed the turbo lag for fun, shouldn't take it too seriously. In the end of you got turbo lag, you're just in the wrong gear. N/As aren't always that fast from low revs either, especially rotary engines and Vtec engines. If you try to go even slightly uphill in a RX-8 in 5th gear at 60 mph it actually slowes down if you floor it haha. On the plus side, turbo engines do have a lot of torque if you are on boost, usually more than comparable N/As.

The idea is to test the engine at top gear at 30 mph to show the engines performance on a heavy load. As this is a modern car, it has more power than torque and without the turbo it was pretty much worthless yes. However this displays the disadvantage and advantage to a turbo. When you've got the boost it's a game breaker, when you don't you have no performance at all. Cars with much more torque would take off in top gear like a rocket.

This does not show that the turbo was useless in top gear even though everyone already knows it would be and whoever would try to spool a turbo like that would be an idiot. I don't recall bringing them up, but if you were to say race a car that had similar specs but didn't rely on forced induction and then miss a shift. You would have lost a considerable amount of power. Gear ratios aren't enough to save this car in that said instance, the lack of displacement is killing it. Amazing performance regardless, but just consider what it'd be without said turbo.

lol, everyone is baggin on the odd 30mph in its top gear but this is a common test for top gear....they do a standing mile with cars in their top gear often, not all is televised sure, but a series of tests/driving cituations are done that exceed what most would do in most of the cars that are purchased..

Rather have an EVO X than a EVO VI/VIII unless you are a shop building it to go to the track to try and set records. Ordinary mods that get you upgrades work well on the X. If your trying to put down over 500whp then the older model with the better block is better.
