My second ever flight was on one of these, Gatwick to Warsaw 1984. I sat level with the engines and had ringing in my ears for three days...BUT I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! That's what got me into flying. So, thanks very much, Chefsalat76 and thanks IL18!
