As a Dutchman, I'm amazed ( and bit jealous I must admit) about the richness of British comedy. The talent, the quality.. This guy, Peter Cook, past away years ago, but he is still one of the best. The characters he is playing, so accurate, funny. He must have been a fine actor.
I am a huge Peter Cook fan..................... but it is widely accepted that Peter could not act. His genius was for highly inventive comic improvisation with particular gift subtle plays on words and and cliché, e.g. "......... an experience like that............ in fact that experience....."
Good god what a genius. Cook paved the road of modern comedy in so many ways and, when you watch him, you realize that few comedians even deserve even to be in his shadow. He doesn't get near the credit he deserves. "She can serve drinks, but not peanuts at the same time."
A bona fide comedy genius. Today we have the likes of Noel Fucking Fielding the pointy faced cunt goblin and that hopeless prick Russell Brand. Where did it all go wrong?
Don't diss the Boosh. Pointy faces are useful. At least Noel has a healthy relationship with his comedy partner and isn't suffering from alcoholism. Pete was amazing, but he was such a raw ego he squashed any other spirit in the room if he wasn't the centre of attention, and had nothing but contempt for people at ease with themselves. I love him, he makes me laugh till I hurt, but I prefer men who can deal with other people's success.
I suppose I could use his face for picking dog shit out of the soles of my shoes. I judge my comedians on their comic abilities not how rounded they are as human beings. Most great men are flawed and Cook was no exception. If he had have a been more rounded individual, Derek and Clive would never have happened. Sorry to disagree, but Fielding really is a hopelessly unfunny cunt.
