  • quick take off

  • 31L has a 3200 ft displaced threshold. As far as I can tell, the mains left the ground around a mile later. The V speeds and takeoff power are calculated before each takeoff based on runway length, density altitude, and aircraft weight.

  • 2 people tried to take off and crashed at sea

  • Do all 747's usually have fairly fast/short take-off's?

  • @Bittyswitty Depends on the weight carried by the 747

  • Beautiful videos....ALL of them! What a treat to be sitting int the cockpit of a 747 (KLM no less!) and experiencing this. If you ever fly into or out of ORD, please post! Thank you and greetings from Chicago.

  • @SuredT I have a question. Do the GE engines really estiblish as well as it sounds like? It seems like if you put in 70% N1 at take off, that the engines immediately establish there. This is not the case in the PMDG 747-400 GE unfortunately. Shame, cuz it sounds really cool. If you make another video at takeoff, it would be cool to make EICAS view :P Thanks in advance.

  • I just love the sound of the CF6-80's spooling up, and they establish very easily either. this is not the case in the PMDG 747-400 unfortunately :(

  • I thought V1 is the decision speed so you can't abort a take off after it.

But the runway 31 L is 4,5 km long and you had not even 1,5km when you reached V1!

Let's say you had an engine fail- would you have to take off shortly after V1 ALTHOUGH you have 3 km runway in front of you?

    I don't get it!

  • @ebksb123 V1 is the speed that is calculated before the flight but thats the decision speed to abort takeoff if nessarcary if a fault occurred during the run up

  • i have some dirty white points on the screen that made me think that they stars in the vid :D

  • 2 passengers are scared of take off

  • Wooowww

  • u pretty much took off right after the actual runway started, (not the arrows)

  • Can a 747-400 depart 31L from the KK intersection or does it need the full length?

  • Lightning at 1:00?

  • @love0is0not0hate no beacon light reflict off of the glass of the flight control tower.

  • Cool

  • Are you a pilot? for 747-400 for klm?

  • @ManiacalMarlboroMan Obviously.

  • @matthmatthmatth Maybe some passenger gave themn a camera to put in the cockpit

  • How do you steer the airplane on the ground?

  • Superb - thank you

  • 1 person missed their flight...

  • excelent video

  • This is badass and a view not many people get to see. Thank you

  • Doesn't seem like a fully loaded plane, was it?

  • i dont like 747s i like the airbus a330-300

  • @2:30 - 2:59 That's City Island they're flying over! I live there

  • have u ever had a go around or aborted takeoff?

  • you gotta love the bright Lights of NEW YORK CITY!!

  • are u the guy that say rotate?

  • Hallo SuredT (ik neem aan dat u Nederlands bent). Ik wil ook heel graag piloot worden in een 747, maar wat ik me afvraag is wat je dan eigenlijk moet doen tijdens die ellenlange cruise?

  • I Love U SuredT Ur The Best Pilot In The World!! :)

  • This is KL642 or KL644? :)

  • @sydneyarenumber1 I think that every waypoint they have to make a cross check between the instruments (left side versus right side). Also I think that they need to right the time at each waypoint to see if it is matching the number of minutes that is on the flight plan. Also, they have to make sure that they don't fly into storms, or turbulence areas, and of course communicate with ATC. I'm not sure I am right, and I hope that SuredT can shed some light on this.

  • @yahweh18. Most of this is correct. On long flights (>9hrs) we have a relief pilot and then we take turns and indeed can get some sleep.

  • Capt. you didnt use the entire rwy why?

  • its best to takeoff as soon as possible. that extra runway can be used in an emergency such as tire blowout. That runway is over 2 miles long.

  • @1967titin because he didnt need to. Its that simple

  • wow you start the takeoff way before the actual runway. is that even legal? sorry im not sure what the begining part of it is called

  • @TheBored22 it's called displaced threshold, may be used for take off, landing roll out and taxi...google "displaced threshold" and read....bye

  • Hi SuredT

Did I see it right ................. you line up in the very very first part of / "before" the run way and rotated very early in the first third of the run way????

    Best wishes from Germany

    Jo

  • Is that vibrating sound just from the camera or what? That could be really annoying after a while :P

  • Great video! Do you live in NYC and fly from that airport? Im in the middle of my flight training and would also love to live in NYC, and fly either corporate or airline out of La Guardia or JFK

  • i love the the lights...superb vid=)

  • I want to do the same work as you...

  • That was a shot take-off roll!!

  • is this klm or lhuftansa?

  • @pys22 KLM

Best job in the world. I wanna be a pilot to!

  • @pys22 its called lufthansa not lhufthansa :)

  • @Musket300 THERE IS ALWAYS GOD. do not worship goat face. search it on youtube what is goat face.

  • good pilot. you guys keep us always safe. thx god bless suredT

  • engine sound killin me

  • I flew last year to New York with KLM 747-combi (City of Johannesburg). What a flight and the service was just amazing. I will use KLM for the years to come.

  • Wow.. that was arguably the longest commercial runway.. the threshold line was only reached at 00:47

  • u took off at night and landing early morning?

  • Wonderful! Thanks for posting. I've seen this many times from the cabin during my travels, but never the pilots view. Looks like you departed straight towards Manhattan.

  • New York by night. Beatiful.

  • Wederom een fantastische video and again a great video we keep enjoying it just keep them coming great job

  • very nice ! tenks !

  • =[ of the video went on for a little longer i could've seen my town, oh well. great video though =]

  • when i travel from Miami to NY i saw lots of light arrangements that look like they where on water like an hour after arriving Kennedy airport..it was awesome.

  • You can see the stars !!

  • why can't i find L31 on google earth? only R31

  • @Omatunto L31 is the same runway as R31 except on the opposite end of the runway

  • @Omatunto because there is no L31 my last comment was wrong about being on the opposite side, at the other end of R31 will be the left runway i cant remeber what the number is

  • @leonzav if the runway at one end is 31 the other end is 13.

  • Either the 747 had less load for takeoff or RW31L is a long runway.

  • must be fun.

  • I could never be a pilot. I fly about twice a year and that's enough stress for me. Your stuck in a tube 35,000 feet above the ground and your life depends on two engines. I really don't know how can you put yourself through it on a regular basis. My hands are always sweaty during landings. Btw that strip of land around 2:35 is Belle Harbor, the exact place where AA flight 587 crashed.

If I was flying over it I would be scared everytime.

  • @yeahdude7 The way to deal with fear is to face it. If you keep at it you can succeed.

  • @yeahdude7 and how big is the chance a crash happens there again, exactly at the time youre in that plane?

  • Love this :) This takeoff rul'd, the sight.. the EVERYTHING

    Great job pilot.

  • Does rotate mean, pull up?

  • Comment removed

  • @featheredmusic - yes

  • Isin't it funny how at kjfk on 31L and 13R " they are the same runway" The threshold takes up nearly half of the whole runway!!

In my 172 I could take off on just one quarter of the THRESHOLD!!!

  • very nice

  • the quality of your videos is amazing!

  • @SuredT

-Just wondering, what are flaps supposed to be at for takeoff and landing for a B747?

Thanks for the amazing videos with great quality.

Look forward to seeing more of your amazing piloting(:!!!!!

  • @amk9998 Great question!!

    Takeoff 10*

Landing Full (unless there is a crosswind then it differs)

  • @pdowty68 its flaps 20 for the take off (Y)

  • @jacdoy101 Thanks! Do You Like Flying The 744?

And I Am 12 Do You Think I Know Alot For My Age?

I Have Flown About 4 Cessna 172's With The Civil Air Patrol! I Am A Staff Sargent!

  • Wow that is a long runway. Take off took place right past the threshold. Cool vid.

  • no better flying videos than yours in youtube....thx a lot!!

  • Thanks Captain! Beautiful takeoff!

  • Great videos..... :-)

  • Captain, as always your work is great. Plaese keep your vids coming (more often)

  • if i ever fly in a 747, i want you as a pilot lol, i want to be a pilot when im older. in fact, im going into the airforce when im done with college, and im going to apply at norwitch in vermont. I wanna be a pilot badly

  • tks capt

  • capt, wats a canarise climb?

  • @jacsparroww Just a climb in the direction of a beacon/place called Canarsie

  • @SuredT capt is the PMDG 747-400 for fsx is a good way to practice

  • @SuredT

not sure if you remember, but... MERIT 3 departure?

  • @jacsparroww More specifically, it's a departure climb created for noise abatement, and puts you facing nearly the opposite direction of runway heading. One of the more complex departures from KJFK. You have the Concorde to thank for its existience.

  • Nice city lights view!!

Owh, may i know your V1/VR, capt?

When (if you had, when the last) do you will landing on WIII? Please make a video when you do it!! Thanks a lot!! Always admiring all of your videos!

  • brilliant

  • All of your videos are excellent!!!

  • been there, done that

  • You own all 747's takeoff/landing videos on Youtube. Thanks for sharing! Bon voyage

  • Another fantastic vid capt, whens the nxt one commin ?

  • that is a long displaced threshold!

  • AWESOME!! is a very short take off..

  • flown in n out of JFK a 100 times

  • huge displaced threshold there!

  • Spectacular view right after takeoff!

  • Mooie shot!

Nice video shots, as usual. Thx 4 sharing, Sured!

  • Always enjoy SuredT's videos

  • Beautiful !

  • this runway is toooooo long lol.

  • Awesome! He's nearly airborne before he even hits the threshold.

Another great video, as always, from SuredT.

  • Awesome thx!

  • You sure that was NOT a taxiway?

    Ghehe, just kidding mate :)

  • Yet another amazing video! I have only one subscription, and its SuredT. A long wait, but well worth it as always.

  • As always great!! 5+

  • PERFECT VIDS! LOVE 'EM!

  • SuredT missed your videos mate!!! taking a break?? glad you back!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • oh wow that is incredible...

  • Thanks for all your great videos!!!!

  • again suredT awesome work

Pilot is really the best job in the world

  • @IQ20000Berta Not True. Dad, ( Retired 747-400 pilot with over 23000h and 40y) says that many airlines want you to use a lower power setting upon take-off if the runaway length is available. Nothing to do with potential problems. Also, a beacon/place that was talked about is usual called an intersection, not place. And on long hauls, he says he sleeps. How about that. They take turn and gets paid while they sleep.

  • mad case of vertigo later in the video, thank god for gyros

  • Is the pilot Dutch? xD

His numbers pronunciation have a dutch accent to it ^^ '

  • it would tie-in with some of the locations in the other other vids.

  • He's pretty clearly with KLM in some of his other videos.

  • ah, that felt sooo good. thank you for another takeoff. beautiful ~

  • great video! who filmed? the co-pilot?

  • I think he's got something set-up so the camera sits near the windshield.

  • Great! Thank you very much for uploading more videos!

    Cheers

  • great video...thanks

  • Awesome to see a new video from you!! Keep 'em coming I love it!

  • Nice video. I think your 747 used less runway than my 172! I like it.

  • cool video!

  • Going to Boston? That was a short takeoff roll... no way they were loaded for a long haul flight.

  • The roll started at the end of the displaced threshold, which thresholds are counted as part of the runway, and are included in the runway size, rather than the actual threshold markings.

  • Uh... yeah... and?... My comment had absolutely nothing to do with the displaced threshold... I was refering to the duration of the takeoff roll.

  • The take off seemed about right for the distance, to me anyway, comparing times.

  • Welcome back Captain! Thanks for the video!

  • i thought so from the blue nose, but i wasnt sure. thanks

  • is the runway too long or the "rotate" was early?

How much knots need the 747 when take off?

    Thanks

  • Depends on weight, wind and more.

    Average 150 knots.

  • YAY YOUR BACK.. Great video Great flying Captain :)

  • what airline?

  • klm

  • Nice! :-)

  • coool video 747 is da bomb 5*

  • Great Video!!

  • u never dissapoint SuredT, the waiting was worth it, keep'em coming

  • Can someone do that on fsx? I mean like do the same manuver, but with an outside view?

  • SuredT, I missed your videos! Thanks for uploading a new one!

  • I missed your vids!

  • @jleudj what the fuck did you say?

  • Long time no video. The best on youtube like always. I love your videos!

  • great video man, i really admire other pilots

  • Love it!

  • premium quality as always 5 star of course...too bad you can`t give more

  • amazing!!

  • Geweldig, eindelijk weer update

  • super fimpje, thanks!

  • Is it me, or is that a very narrow runway?

  • @aolambros JFK closed the main runway for repairs so they have to use the smaller ones now. That is if this video was filmed since it started.

  • Yeah right! Very good vidz about the best job on earth:)

  • Once again great video! Please make more!

  • Great to see new footage, 5*! Prachtige video's altijd :)..
