  • Wickedest band ever!!!!!

  • Just because this song isn't featured in a video game doesn't mean it can't be popular. It seems like all people listen to is music that is "popular"

  • If you look...he's playing the ride wen it flicks to Geddy. A show of hands is heavily edited with clips from separate nights not just the one and some times random to the part there playing..which is why Alex's guitar keeps changing from black and white in overture and in turn the page, twice in the spirit of radio they show you a chorus clip before there on the chorus (a far away shot of Geddy clapping) also in turn the page there's a point were Geddy is shown playing bass when there is non!

  • @canyousmellicansmell Yeah, back then when they recorded live shows, they edited their footage extensively with "ghost clips" as I like to call them. Not sure exactly why they did this. They still do it today for some recordings, but it's much more subtle.

  • @ShowgunSam TBH I haven’t really noticed any since ASOH and it makes for better watching, have you noticed on grace under pressure the end of distant early warning is from a total different show? Ah well still Awesome!

  • Is it me or it looks like Neil is using his High Hat but it sounds like a Ride?

  • @LOLKloklok Hey! I was thinking the same thing!

  • @LOLKloklok Not only that....The jack hammer at the start and finish sounds different here than in the actual live album. I ought to know, I've drummed to this song many times thru the years. I never cared for the studio version. Anyway it's a kick ass tune.

  • Great running song right here, as many Rush songs are

  • @21Rushisaband12 idek but ur wrong...srry bro

  • how come at 1:45 it shows neil on the high-hat but i hear a ride cymbal?

  • I started to LOVE rush when i was only about 5 i am 14 now and i still love them and i never have any plans on changing that i dont listen to ANYTHING else. Geddy Lee is my version of God

  • not a single dislike :) love this song, RUSH, and the cool animation!

  • Rush any 1979

  • Rush - Force Ten

  • great Rush tune, what a talented band

  • what kind of bass is he using?

    That punchy tone, wow!

  • @CircusEnvy23 I think that's his Wal bass.

  • @CircusEnvy23 its a Wal MK 1. RUSH!

  • @CircusEnvy23 Wal Mk1, he used it on power windows, hold your fire and presto, i believe he used an MK2 on roll the bones

  • 1:23 neil swiss watch?

  • Chord at 1:22,reminds me of the police walking on the moon.

  • Love that song ! epic bass line !

  • i love rush but they messed this song up somehow in this concert

this is one of my favorites

  • i think i'm going to have an orgasm

  • That's Aimee Mann laughing @0:11. She went on to sing lead for Till Tuesday, a band which should never, ever have stopped playing great songs. I don't even see her in this video, tho.......?

  • i love the sheep!

  • One of the better songs on HYF (my favorite anyway) but Rupert Hine said it best when he asked, "Why is the last remaining power trios on the planet smothered in keyboards?"

  • @deckskater because they are a prog rock band and like to experiment but im sure you can agree they make any style work

  • @deckskater I dunno Rupert...you tell us. Show Don't Tell - Keyboards, Chain Lightning - Keyboards, The Pass - Keyboards, War Paint - Keyboards, Scars - Keyboards, Presto- Keyboards, Superconductor - Keyboards, Anagram - Keyboards, Red Tide - Keyboards, Hand Over Fist - Keyboards, Available Light - Keyboards, Dreamline - Keyboards, Bravado - Keyboards, Roll The Bones - Keyboards, Face Up - Keyboards, Where's My Thing? Keyboards, Big Wheel - Keyboards, Heresey - Keyboards, Ghost of a Chance

  • @deckskater Keyboards, Neurotica - Keyboards, You Bet Your Life - Keyboards. I found that line from him to be hysterical since every song he did with them had keyboards layered all over them lol. Everything he does has keyboards in their songs...The Fixx, Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Howard Jones, Saga, Thompson Twins, Suzanne Vega.

  • God this song is fucking amazing. Easily one of Rush's best. If not the best.

This is just a beautiful. Hard to explain, but its amazing. To bad very few bands can actually come this close to being good.

Geddy's hair in this video is amzing. I kinda wana grow my hair like that.

  • Rush is the best band EVER!

  • Salute Your Shorts moment: seems like he said "farts" instead of "part" and so forth.

  • I love geddy's smile at the start.

  • I cant wait for clock work angels, who's with me!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Annonymus121 I am, all the way!

  • @Annonymus121 I am with you thoroughly!!!

  • @Annonymus121

if Rush was selling their urine, I'd probably buy some.

  • @Annonymus121 Why is it taking so long?

  • @PurdueRules15 Because they recently finished their two-year-straight Time Machine Tour and they had to take a break. Poor Geddy's voice was thrashed by the last leg of that tour (as with most who sing at the level he does). The recording is finished and final touches are being added to Clockwork Angels. Expect it to be out by spring.

  • One of the greatest opening songs of all time. This tour was just magical for me. Love Hold Your Fire and Rush! They absolutely have mastered their craft, they write brilliant songs, and Alex is still my fave guitar player ever.

  • @highroader2112 i dont like to much keyboard, Subdivisions is an exspetion

  • total musicians. Terrific mastery of the instruments that relay their well written lyricism. Thanks tothe uploaders; I got to listen to them alot of times, but never seen them perform until youtube.

  • midnight 100mph tune :)) these 3 have been in my record collection since the l8 seventies and still as fresh as a daisy

  • midnight 100mph tune :))

  • das war der erste Song meines ersten großen Live-Konzerts, 1985, Stuttgart, Schleyer-Halle. Ich war 14! Hat mich weggeblasen! Love it! Rush Forever!!!

  • I'm going to have to buy this concert DVD and shroom the fuck out to this.

  • I need to get this DVD.

  • @Hwarming yes. yes you do.

  • Geddy Lee>Jesus

  • AHEAD BY A CENTURY

    u r not alone

  • 3 musical Gods.... For our listening pleasure!

  • This song is SO fun to play on base!

  • Amazing synthscapes, symphonic guitars and rhythms... I love this era of Rush, they really took the next step with electronics, media, and experimenting with combining mulitple genres of music in a complex, yet accessible way. It's frustrating to see Geddy hidden behind the 80's rack of keyboards, but realistically, you have to acknowledge where he was as a musician and songwriter. He was the guy who wanted to do things that others couldn't do. It had to happen that way. Mad respect.

  • Incredibly groovy bassline! It still remains a mystery to me how he can sing like that simultaneously... I guess it's the result of having nothing else to do :-)

  • @docmyrtle lol bass rythm is hard to keep and to sing and play synth at the same time AMAZING!

  • Rush seemed to me to be almost formulaic in the 80's early 90's,fast verse slow chorus, with a jam in inbetween.

  • Wasn't this song / video recorded in Phoenix?

  • @mrblujet this show was recorder in birmingham england !!

  • There better be 0 dislikes. *gets my pride for Rush ready to beat down on anyone who thinks about changing that*

  • @mashedchicken22 I was tempted, just for you, but I resisted the urge.

  • the most under-rated band in the history of the world?

  • @TheShadowCaptain would definitely agree with you, why they are not in rock and roll hall of fame is a f'---ing travesty!!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO rock and roll hall of shame !!

  • I've never seen him with that bass before, what is it? Did he use it the entire concert or was it just that song. Why?

  • @zzzfarcry It's a wal bass, he used it for the entire concert and why not :)

  • one of my favorites of 'em...live version better than studio version !!!

  • These guys are the realized Zen Masters of Hard Rock!

  • @selatik1 PROG ROCK :D

  • GEDDY LEE WAL!

  • "BUY THE DVD's & CD'S! Support the greatest band on the planet. Better picture and audio quality. Don't be freeloaders!"

    LMAO, I guess I'm a freeloader then

  • Thats not cool dude. The real thing is way worth buying. It's so cheap on the internet you would have to be a total asshole not to buy it. Unless of course you don't like this concert that much in the first place.

  • It IS, but I can't afford to purchase every single album Rush has with my own money, (I'm 15) so unless I want to sit on my computer for 30 hours, my only real option is to download them and listen to them at my leisure.

1 dollar a song is not cheap, it builds up. Every rush song = hundreds of dollars. and Rush is not the ONLY band I like you know.

I don't consider myself an asshole... I simply can't afford to buy all the stuff my favorite bands crank out.

  • Hey its not one dollar a song, its five dollars at most per album on Amazon. It would be less, but I bought all the cheaper ones ;)

  • 5 dollars is reasonable, but I simply can't afford all my music. I'm 15 and have to save up for college/car/home renovations, ect.

I HAVE to download if I want to listen to it all, without downloading, I wouldn't even know rush.

Plus If I'm going to buy the music, I prefer buying the CD anyway so I can rip it to a loss-less format

  • @Critica1Acclaim Glad to see someone so young into Rush.

  • 1:54 - 2:33 is so awesome!

  • what a band! totally unique. They are a genre of their own!!!

  • awesome album

  • I dont know what is more tremendous, Geddy's bassline or his hair. absolutely awesome

  • @LegoOgre I wonder which conditioner Alex uses?

  • @selatik1 Probably a Furman .. in his guitar rack that is .. lol

  • @LegoOgre Right on!!

  • @LegoOgre yes well..he had a terrible haircut at this time, but don't let that distract you from what matters...

  • @LegoOgre Back in 1977 it was down to his hips!!

  • @LegoOgre or his nose

  • Comment removed

  • Ahhh...favorite parts are 2:13 2:44 and 3:36 .

The sweet sounds of the 80's!!!!!

By the way....what is Geddy saying at 2:44 ?

  • That voice in the background at around 2:44 is saying "rising falling at force ten

we twist the world and ride the wind"

  • Thanks so much man. Rush rocks!

  • @XanaduNintendo156 "Rising-- Falling-- at force ten, we twist the world and ride the wind-wind-wind-wind." :)

  • @narutozrasengan

    Thanks!

  • if God, Buddha and Zeus got together to play for a bit they'd be brilliant , wait they alredy do, its called rush :D

  • I think dude means double kick drum thump thump

  • from 4:00 mark on, the double bass thump-thump reminds me of a heart beat

  • A "double bass thump thump"??! That's freaking epic. Just so ya know, it's called a sequence and geddy triggers it with his foot via midi. Love the name though.

  • i think its the way it was mixed. the whole show sounds funky. still awesome though.

  • Geddy's Voice here sounds funny, only here. He sounds pretty epic. It would have been arranged coughing.

  • He just sucks, as usual.

  • my favourite way for Rush to open a show...

  • Rush always considered themselves as a "progressive" rock group. Not as Metal.

  • That's funny because I've heard Geddy say at one point they tried more heavy metal in the 70s. But for sure, All of their songs are progressive. Progressive rock is the greatest.

  • Hey this is something people confuse all the time. In the 70's, what RUSH played was considered heavy metal. (Like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, ETC.] Today metal is something different and we now place them under a different genre. But yeah, now you know :]

  • i would never class RUSH as Metal, they are blaintly more progressive!!

  • YOU FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow, the best.....

  • when hold your fire was being produced it only had 9 songsthat was written for the album, the SRO management went too the guys and said write another song.they only had a few days to come up with lyrics, and music hence the song title FORCE TEN quoted form Geddy, and Alex during an interview befor the album come out.

  • Rising, falling at force 10, we spin the world and ride the wind...

  • it's TWIST the world and ride the wind.

  • Yeah. I found that out a few moments after I wrote it. kinda embarrassing actually.

  • christ I listen watch this video 2 to 3 times a day

  • Simply Breath Taking

  • great song

  • This is Rush. Therefore it is supreme. :)

  • 1987 was a good year, Hold Your Fire was released and I was born. While the bulk of the album is great, this song has always stood out as particularly brilliant.

Unfortunately this song is also brutal on bass. Alot of it is relatively simple, but nailing those chords in the main rhythm with the speed and consistency of Geddy is damn hard.

  • @andyhoov alex's guitar solos are never over bearing, they are always precise, filling in the space perfectly without being overwhelming

  • Hold your fire is a good album. You would think they would add it to the radio. But no! It's sad! All you hear is that stupid song "Love Story". Oh wow Taylor Swift! Bleh! And what about those classic rock stations. They add only 4 of Rush songs while they have a whole library of songs. It ticks me off.......

  • kind of interesting to play and sing at the same time lol !

  • I've never seen or heard three guys put their own skills to such powerful use - awesome.

  • this is a spectacular song

  • Loved this album. Amy Mann from 'Til Tuesday on vocal accompaniment...perfect match for Gedster's voice! The older fans really despised this album for some reason yet, the turnout for the tour was "sold out" almost every venue..go figure!

  • the song is good u have to pick and choose from later stuff but dont say it like that lol

  • Rush is too good. They need to give everyone else time to catch up! Say... 100 years?

  • That still wouldn't be fair ;o

  • no, they're just the best band in the whole universe!

  • no, I'd say about 500

  • @jonny7789 Not until musicians are replaced by robots will there be anything that could possibly be better lol

  • @jonny7789 More like 10000000 years

  • @jonny7789 Problem is, music is falling further and further away from the quality of Rush with each passing year - not closer. Give Rock another 100 years and it will just be melodic farting.

  • @pringlw Ya, coincidentally, it will be around the year of 2112. Weird.

  • @jonny7789 maybe 200?

  • Geddy's little bass burp at 4:22 makes the song.

  • BROTHERS we are all rush fans why must we fight!

  • fight what?

  • Fight shitty new music

  • Love Hold your fire!

  • This is the best album opener they have ever done. Not Tom Sawyer, not Distant Early Warning, Test for Echo, Dreamline, Animate, Far Cry, One Little Victory, NONE of the other album openers can compare to the energy in this song.

  • What about Xanadu? Or perhaps, The Big Money? Spirit of the Radio!

  • Xanadu is not an album opener, but still: none of the openers (including those) campares to Force Ten in my mind.

  • Oh yeah. Silly me, you got me there! Yeah, I know what you mean, it's filled with so much power. Hold Your Fire is a really good album. As soon as you hear that bass line on Force Ten, you're thinking, "Wow, good as ever"

  • no im thinking, geddy lee makes bass his lil' bitch

  • umm yeah

    La Villa Strangiato

or By-Tor and The Snow Dog

    stoopid.

    fuck even xanadu, marathon

    freewill, subdivisions

maybe if you spent some time researching your bands.

  • Album OPENERS you twat. As in track 1. Wow you really are a dumbass arent you?

  • For those (including you) who apparently can't remember the album openers: Finding My Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres, The Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning, The Big Money, Force Ten, Show Don't Tell, Dreamline, Animate, Test For Echo, One Little Victory and Far Cry.

If you don't like me thinking that Force Ten beats them all, too bad.

  • who in the bloody two fucks said we were talking about only, and specifically album openers ?

  • Yeah, um, when I was writing the comment I was listening to Xanadu at the time, so...

And who says that I haven't researched enough information on RUSH? I basically have all of their albums, then again, that doesn't exactly prove anything, but still, don't judge someone by a single comment.

  • ...okay, sorry. Lets just watch the video now.

  • lmao thank you.

  • geddy lee's voice can make a wolverine purr

  • WOW!! pause at 4:11 u can see Geddys pedals. idk how he dose it, play the bass, the synth including the pedals and sing...if i were up ther id be like 0_0 wtf?!?!

    he really is underated....

  • My favourite Rush song. Brilliant, just brilliant.

I've gotta say though, my love for this song has increased because of Geddy's hair in this. Is that a legendary mullet or what?

  • Not really a mullet...he just had it put in a ponytail, is all

  • if i ever become a stormchaser im gonna play this song in the middle of a huge thunderstorm. the song would suit it perfectly.

  • haha me too! it does fit perfectly very fast paced

  • at 4mins in that is very scary with the lighting and how serious he is lol

  • I NEVER get tired of this song. One of my favorites of Rush.

  • i'll second that

  • This. Song. Is. Fucking. AWESOME!!!!!

  • fuck yes

  • Comment removed

  • I love Hold Your Fire and was happy to see them play Red Sector A in late 2007 at the ACC in Toronto.

I love how Geddy hits the high notes by raising his eyebrows!

  • Haha, Geddy's eyebrows are awesome.

  • Geddy is generally quite awesome

  • yea lol

  • It's really cool--at 1:13 when Geddy sings the line "attack the day like birds of prey" he seems to personify a bird of prey to me. =) Just a Random Observation.

  • so awsome, rush is unmatched musically by any force on this earth...no question

  • lol, epic haircut Geddy's got there. Awesome song.

  • this my friends is a song done way before its time it doesnt even sound like it was from the 80s long live RUSH

  • Ahhh.

Celebrating the ingeniousness of Hold Your Fire

    Breathtaking

  • Ah, the 80's! At the time I thought it was hell, but now I realize it was a heavenly decade... for me anyway! I was young! ;)
