nobody talks about the co pilot who was working to try to restart the engine and do emergency checks, the old pilot trying to take credit for it all, the flight deck is a two man deal, in fighter jets or civi, and FYI the co pilot operated the flaps and dynamics, captain might have the stick but come on........co pilot given the f off by the media.............

Sully had what he needed to put the plane into the Hudson, and nothing more.

A true "Miracle" would have been if he could have gotten to an actual airport (you know, that place where the long concrete strip is?)

This whole "Miracle on the Hudson" thing should be "Pilot gets lucky and doesn't take out 20 sq blocks of the Bronx".

Just had opportunity to meet with Jeff Skiles, the co-pilot ... the way he recalls the events is breath taking ... And TimTehPilot is right ... they saved lives due to proper training and keeping cool.

@ThompkinsEdition You forgot one more thing. Jet liners ain't meant to land on water. It's a mere impossible feat of its own. Very rarely do planes have survivors when landing on water and breaking apart. Let alone an INTACT landing. I don't blame him for retiring :S When your final test is to land on water, I think you should quit.

It is a miracle, out of the 1.8 million flights that happen every year this was the only one that happened to have its engine shut down because it hit a bird. The pilot of this random event? He just happened to be an Air force fighter pilot, the world's leading airline safety instructor, a NASA safety consultant, and a commercially certified glider pilot. Funny how out of every pilot in the world this happened to his plane, GOD set up his victory and guided his path to glory. One word, MIRACLE.
