In response to kerry53. At home births the baby is also suctioned. The nurse has to stimulate the baby so that the baby takes really deep breaths to open up the airways. Otherwise we have to put a tube down the baby to help the baby breath. The nurse isn't being rough. If you don't clean the baby & get the baby cleaned they get cold & hypothermic. Then we have other problems.
