  • He wouldn't be able to slide in that lock up and get in the car nowadays!

  • ugly

  • It's got the spare tire on the trunk, it's looks horrible but I love the car itself!

    Bobbie

  • @BobbieandSteveDooley I thought that Elephants had Trunks! - In English, we call it a Boot! However, if you are from Canada, do not confuse it with A Boot, A Boat, or About!

  • Ohh I love the p6 its such an understated 4 door GT!

  • i love the p6!

  • I see three P6s everyday, because they're outside my house. I prefer the 2000 over the 3500s myself, It's quieter and cheaper to insure, which is ideal for me, considering I won't get classic car insurance until I'm 21! Not fair!

  • i saw one of them yesterday

  • haha did he say v6 at the beginning!

  • 3:09 look at his glove on his right hand lol looks all mashed up

  • @21Jimmy86 p6

  • Don't need a "shedload of cash" for a P6B V8 a helluva lot cheaper to restore + run than a Jaguar or Bentley

These will never be cheaper than the are now ( I own one )

  • Oh, so it is possible to 'adjust' the tappet/valve clearances?

    £100 a set... hmm :P

Oh well, if one day I win the lottery/inherit millions/somehow acquire a shedload of cash, I might find a V8, and try to strip it apart and rebuild it. Would be a steep curve for a dummy like me though :-S

  • Nothing beats the pureclass of the Series 1 P6 2000 from the 1960s, built when Rover were still an independant company. The BL Series 2 models ruined the original clean design with bits of black plastic, extra trim which falls off etc. less is more

  • It's all down to personal choice, isn't it?

    I much prefer the MK2 and wouldn't touch a P6 if it didn't have a V8 power plant.

If we all liked the same stuff it'd be a boring old world, eh?

  • I have to agree... not JUST because of the obvious difference in power, but also because the 4-cyl engines are really awkward in some respects (tappet adjustment, requiring removing the camshaft (whose securing bolts are the cylinder heads bolts!)).

(I know the V8 has hydraulic tappets, so cannot be adjusted, btw!)

  • My first Rover V8 engined car was a P6 mk2.

They are good engines, but if you want to make big power without using nitrous oxide they are very expensive. You mentioned the V8 tappets are none adjustable... You set the preload on a stock V8 by measuring the preload on all valves, take an average and then shim the pedestals. You end up with some tight, some loose and a couple spot on. The only way around this is to use Moly adjustable rods for each valve. Not cheap @ £100 a set!

  • i might be getting one for 15000 crowns, that is a little more than a thousand pounds, and it seems to be in quite good condition. only problem is that its brownish yellow, but that can be fixed

  • Thats a gorgous car (even though my pickup can out accelerate it) I wouldint mind owning one of these. But that dude annoys the hell out of me.

  • 1:06 "nought to sixty in nine seconds and will go on to a top speed of one hundred and twenty five miles an hour" said in a real impressive sounding way.

1:30 "..and the acceleration is hardly breathtaking".

C'mon Mike, make your mind up.

  • I was thinking the same thing. Personally I think it's fast enough.

  • @ralpius Mike Brewer couldn't wipe his arse without getting it on his hands, so you can't expect him to have anything intelligent, interesting or consistent to say about cars.

The man is a horrible little toad whose grating voice is an affront to earholes everywhere.

  • @mikebrewerisamoron

Welp....He's rich, famous, and generally likable.

So naturally he's a piece of crap.

    OR

He's good on TV. Which is all that matters if your on TV.

  • this car is so well designed, makes me wonder why rover had to die

  • cuz the lazy government and all the illegal immigrants in the UK

  • LOOKS GREAT AT 18SEC

  • This isn't Wheeler Dealers. It's Deals on Wheels, a totally different programme.

  • thankyou!

  • I remember when this was first shown my mate had just paid £500 for a '74 2000, we went straight out to the driveway and removed the rear seats to find hardly any metal and loads of rust.

About six months later I bought a '72 3500S for £20 from a scrapyard and underneath it was totally mint. The £500 became a parts car for the £20 one!

They're great cars and every panel bolts on but don't ever get one with a rusty base unit!

    Thanks for posting

  • That's a really interesting story with a great moral: all is never lost! Well done for sticking with your project and glad it all turned out in the end!!!!

  • She's just had a completely rebuilt V8, due to get a 5 speed gearbox conversion and hopefully back on the road later this year... mind you I said that two years ago :-)

  • Sounds great! I hope you get the incentive to carry on! I'd love to see the pics!

  • wicked beige v8!!!!!!!

  • Very interesting clip :-)
