Another thought, it doesnt take all that much driver skill to go in a straight line. If this were on a track where driver skill was involved, you might have an argument, but drag racing is for the builders, whereas track is for the drivers.
@kelson12345 they run like 12.6 from the factory, can't be that bad. I often find lots of people highly underestimate, both, the MR2 and how light its chassis is, and the 3sgte engine it uses.
I dont buy into that American vs import crap, but some v8 owners are so in loser denial that you can not make an import fast. The c6 vette doesnt even come with 400whp, its like 405hp stock, no where near 400 at the wheels, and its several hundred pounds heavier than the mr2.
Love mr2 turbo's- (bought a 91' in 95')-highly underrated cars with huge aftermarket potential, and many different bodykits available, but more than that, they are so original & rare here in the states. Especially the 93 to 95 turbo's, which have much better handling than the 91/92 models.
i like the mr2 but that external wastegate sounds like a pussy whistle lol (im not the literate with turbos so i guess it could be a bov but still it sounds gay lol) i like the mopar bov for the calibur srt4!
@RACErocker People actually like that HKS BOV however if you want a balls out BOV, Greddy RS. I went and had a listen to the Mopar one, it isn't bad, but not as good as the Greddy RS, which I recommend if you like that kind of sound. My friend had one in his GSX and when it went off, you would expect to see a huge dust fly from around his car followed by leaves as if it was Anime like (to give the extreme scenario), it sounded so ballsy.
yea the greddy is good stuff but sooooo expensive...and what does a bov really do other than sound? i kno it relieves turbo boost but other than that why pay for something thats not really giving u anything extra?
@RACErocker Well as for the BOV, honestly I don't know too much. I barely bought both my MR2 turbos (my first turbo cars) early this year and haven't really had much to tinker with them. But I would imagine having the right bov for the correct amount of HP (everyone seems to go straight for the highest application HKS SSQV which is designed for 600HP+ applications, so I don't understand that), it would be like having the right fuel pump rather than change the wiring or whatever. Just caution.
@RACErocker Yeah, pretty much. I mean people take it way outta context saying YOU NEED THIS, and others for sound. Much like an exhaust, having sound and applicable use, some having less than others, some having one when it isn't even required because of the vehicle being "Stock". Or hell, even a Wing.
i like tuners and foreign cars but i dont like ricey shit like wings and full body kits, i just like a simple body kit maybe a deck spoiler but other than that it just gets rediculous, that crap was cool when the first fast and the furious came out lol
@RACErocker Yeah but the funny part is that people in USA claim to be all for JDM, but in Japan they do that ricey stuff because they don't want a stock looking car.
really thats funny but if ts what you like then why now...i just dont see very many good looking body kits most r chipped cracked unpainted it just looks rediculous
@RACErocker Yeah it is kinda funny. Ok take me for instance, I have two Toyota MR2 Turbos SW20. One has the TRD 2000GT Body kit. Lots of people don't know that and say my car looks like a wanna be Exotic Car. Normally, if it was just a aftermarket widebody kit, I wouldn't want that on my car. But since it is a representation of a 2000GT MR2, I like it. Part of it is up there in our heads, and the second part is actually having style and good options. So I agree with you on the style part.
@RACErocker Oh one more thing. I am wondering if this makes sense too. Most guys all kinda dress the same, right? T-shirt and jeans? In Japan, mostly everyone is a true individual. Cars are like extensions of our personality, sometimes we like to stand out and be different. My Celica GT (Project GT-Four) looks like no other. Some say it looks ugly, some it eventually grew on. But nobody in my town had red rims until I did it with my Celica. It is a temp look, but just making a point.
you kno i appreciate ppl like u on youtube that dont just talk shit and have respect most ppl hide behind their computers and try n be a tough guy i cant stand it, i love mr2's btw they r sexy as hell i saw one with the intake scoop coming up over the top of the roof on the left side once and thats when i fell in love lol
this was in the Metro Detroit area in Michigan, IF MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECT IT WAS A REEEEEEEEEALLY LIGHT PURPLISH KIND OF COLOR IDK WHAT TO CALL IT, sorry bout the caps too lazy to retype lol
yea i understand that too i just painted the rims on my pt cruiser (which i love btw) they were black with chrome lip now black with anodized red lip and eeeeeeveryone thinks its sick and i think it not only looks good but its original...im the ONLY one in my town with that look which i love
I have a 1991 Mr2 turbo, I want to know how these guys get their Mr2 to go that fast. I want mine to be fast between 12s and high 12s to low 13s. I don't want to be any faster cuz I want it to still be somewhat reliable. Anyone got any tips or link for me to find out how??? I love my Mr2. Cant find them hardly now but if you do, the cost of it is sure depressing. They are the best looking stock import sports car without any body kit mods. Love em!!!!!
it's a lil bit more complicated than that, since you have the 2nd gen 3sgte. first thing i did was to eliminate the maf sensor and convert to map with 3rd gen ecu and tuned with greddy emanage blue. then before going crazy with boost i replaced my complete fuel system (walbro pump, aeromotive fuel regulator, fuel rail and 750cc injectors) the stock rail and injectors sucks so you better replace that so ure pistons won't dry out.
Also don't go crazy with a mbc and set at 18 on stock parts if you don't know what you're doing, you better tune with a wideband so you protect ure engine and get the right parts to do it. or u'll end up learning the hard way wich is more expensive. by the way, i bought 750cc but you can use 540, 680cc depending on what u want. i have 750cc and still street reliable thanxs to my programming. good luck

i gotcha, so there are ratings and such to be aware of when purchasing a bov that was my main question
