  • Thanks man it really helped me a lot!

  • thanks alot! :)

but once i'm done editing it and all, how would i publish it for others to see the site?

  • Many thanks, it helps A LOT for beginners, even on joomla 1.7.

  • I get to step 4 :Database when installing Joomla, but get this in red:

    message Some errors occurred while populating the database: Table 'mynewwebsite.jos_extensions' doesn't exist SQL=INSERT INTO `jos_extensions` (`extension_id`, `name`, `type`, `element`, `folder`, `client_id`, `enabled`, `access`, `protected`, `manifest_cache`, `params`, `custom_data`, `system_data`, `checked_out`, `checked_out_time`, `ordering`, `state`)

What can I do, to fix this issue?

  • Same here... Some errors occurred while populating the database: Table 'Gabriel1.jos_extensions' doesn't exist SQL=INSERT INTO `jos_extensions` (`extension_id`, `name`, `type`, `element`, `folder`, `client_id`, `enabled`, `access`, `protected`, `manifest_cache`, `params`, `custom_data`, `system_data`, `checked_out`, `checked_out_time`, `ordering`, `state`) VALUES (600, 'English (United Kingdom)', 'language', 'en-GB', '', 0, 1, 1, 1, '', '', '', '', 0, '0000-00-00 00:00:0 etc... etc...

  • is it possible to take your current host install of joomla and install on local machine? so that all my current contents can be downloaded to my computer?

  • @djcharliehoodfresh YES indeed! You need to first copy all of your joomla directory to your localhost, and then export your database to your computer and import through phpmyadmin. I will make a video soon of this.

  • Nice tutorial. What screencast application do you use?

  • @MC68EC040 Thanks! Screen flow.

  • Hi! The tutorial is great, but I have one problem.

I can get as far as 2.12 but then when I have to navigate to localhost:8888/ it doesn't work, I get an error.

I've installed mamp, and it says that it's working perfectly well.

I have no idea what to do, this is all very alien to me! Could you help?

Thank you so much in advance!

  • @Romeowasbleeding1 What error are you getting? Does MAMP status say everything is running?

  • @ITeachUweb

Mine just says "The virtual host was set up successfully."

    What should I do?

  • @Romeowasbleeding1 try this. It worked for me. (i'm also a n00b)

    localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English

  • @crashdiet69

    Thanks!

However it didn't work, it says that I can't connect to the server. :/

  • @Romeowasbleeding1 I get same error

  • @Romeowasbleeding1 I had same problem, but when you open mamp in your applications before pressing the open start page hit "preferences..." then press the "apache" tab then press select and find where your joomla folder that was unzipped from your download then press ok. The apache server and MySQL server will refresh, then open the start page and go to localhost:8888 without the mamp

  • @krich5

    Thanks!

  • @Romeowasbleeding1 i have the same problem :/

  • @Romeowasbleeding1 I'm having the same exact problem this is what comes up

    there are no files there

Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL

can you help me out ?

  • @kuiakuianinja are you using MAMP? make sure your username and password match (even capital letters)

  • thanks good job, its a great tutorial

  • @tigrerockstar69 thanks!

  • Yes, great tutorial. Thanks very much!! Thanks as well to almohvm33 fpr his/her comment as it saved me a lot of frustration. For some reason Joomla puts your username in as your email address, but you need to change it to 'admin' in order to log in to the administration panel.

  • hey guys MAMP is great, I recommend MAMP Pro since you have more functionality within the GUI based app. I use MAMP PRO for a full fledged web server with 100's of peeps accessing the server every minute and it works like a charm, It just makes everything easier :) Oh MAMP works great with Joomla, but I mainly use it for wordpress and my own custom web sites.

  • Once you load your webbrowser, what is it that you type in to get to that "localhost"?

  • Thanks....ur tutorial save me..Thanks...

  • I first used your tutorial with the bitnami installation in MAMP and it was useless, then I followed your instructions exactly, thus without bitnami and voila up and running. Thanx!!

  • Thanks great tutorial. Same question as gtratter, how did you get that dual finder window? It looks awesome.

  • thanks man

  • excellant.. but.. REMIND PEOPLE THAT THE LOGIN IS "ADMIN".. i was tortured by having to redo the entire process cause i did not know what my login was.. something like that is critical.. it says it in small print! ... but great job! thanks!!!! i finally am up and running!

  • great tutorial! tks for that!

  • Smooth and easy!

  • niice tut thnx mate

  • great tuts . thanks .

  • great tutorial thank you!

One question - are you using a script to have a dual column finder window? - if so, will you share>

    Thanks

  • @gtratter It is called Pathfinder for mac

  • i am using a xp machine. does it matter if i follow your instructions?

  • @jackies35 you can download WAMP instead of MAMP and you can follow most of the instructions with me.

  • thanks a lot
